  • Rangel is a criminal that should be in jail.

  • Lol. I just love Charlie.

  • Jan needs to have a national weekly show. Make all these creeps in the District of Criminals talk to him once a week!

  • Rangel is an idiot.

  • Goverment is choosing u if deserve healthcare or not.....socialis

  • Is healthcare a good idea? Yeah. If we can't afford it, does the government have the right to require us to purchase it anyway? No. But that's exactly what the Democrats have attempted to do. Worse, the Democrats want the insurance industry to pay for preexisting conditions. That's like smashing your car into a wall and then buying Allstate insurance so they can pay for damage not originally covered by them. A total ripoff and robber barons like Rangel benefit at our expense.

  • An ulcah....and a doctah....this fucking new york jig can't even speak

  • jail

  • I think the point that jan was attempting to make is..... the goverment makes healthcare more avaialbe to the poor, healthcare providers will mis diagnose, and initiate an operation that may not be needed, and still get paid by the government. The health of the patient is not taken into account and is not proactive to solving our healthcare issues in this country.

  • A politician says 'take my word for it'. I'm terrified.

  • Charlie Rangel is a turd stain in Rosie O'Donnell's panties

  • @shaithis50 There is nothing even remotely public or free about the market. The health care market is one of the most regulated markets in the U.S. As the government became more and more involved in both how health care was provided and how it was paid costs went up faster than inflation. The U.S. government is already responsible for 50% of health care expenditures. Most of the Fed proposals to fix health care are denied to private organizations. Limit national Insurance good for the cont..

  • The government doesn't allow national private insurance but proposes it as a possible fix. The government doesn't allow private insurance to avoid costly and quite frankly stupid mandates but proposes it as a fix. The government doesn't allow private insurers to limit access to specialists or doctors but proposes this as a fix. All these and other proposals to fix health care that are denied private companies for moral reasons are proposed as a fix to health care costs. Very Hypocritical.

  • nice process there charlie. king of the rip off artists

  • Just come to Austria. We have nearly free health care for absolutly everybody and the costs are lower than in the US.

The ignorant interviewer should have studied the facts before making up idiotic assumptions that have nothing in common with reality.

  • @AustrianAtheist Austria does not have nearly free health care. It is simply paid for via a different mechanism, taxation. Costs are lower due to different regulations, essentially price controls by your government. Prices are also lover because the US effectively subsidies the rest of the worlds health care. When a medical supply company, regardless of national origin or whether it supplies drugs or medical equipment gets the majority of its money from the US while making 16% or less cont.

  • @bullpcp Then the US is paying for a large majority of your health care innovation. If you check R and D costs of the most common drugs by both usage and price the US pays for the vast majority of both R and D and makes up a large portion of their sales. At the same time we have regulations forbidding most of the price cutting measure the rest of the world enjoys. I hate the US health care system. I just see the problems that exist in a different light. Why can the rest of the world get con.

  • @bullpcp away with seeing a nurse or a physicians assistant while we are forced to see a doctor regardless of ailment? Why do we allow the AMA to artificially limit the supply of doctors. Why can't we sale insurance across state lines or avoid hundreds of costly and quite frankly stupid mandates? The US health care system is a regulated mess. The government portion of health care has increased to 50% in the United States during the time period of cost increases.

  • The reason we have such expensive health care is because we lack a free market not because we have one.

  • One of the other benefits the congresscritters have is they won't be subjected to any of the bullshit this health care ponzi inflicts on the rest of us being they are exempt from it.

  • WTF!! Heifeld just answer the question. If health care is paid for by insurance companies you don't pay attention to price. If you don't pay attention to prices the provider always pay whatever the insurance company is willing to pay. Since the price is essentially set this removes incentives to innovate and become more efficient to lower the price. The pricing mechanism is necessary for a properly functioning free market system removal of it has horrific unintended consequences.

  • Health care is a human right, part of human dignity. Your stupid pricing mechanism becomes obsolvent when people are dying. You guys want the poor to die?

When politians want to take away our free health care, we will kill them.

  • @AustrianAtheist First off if water, food, shelter and clothing are not a "human right" then how in the world is Health. If food water, food, shelter and clothing are a "human right" then why are the provided by a relatively free marketplace. Secondly what do you think the government would use to make the health care market more efficient? Answer they will of course use prices and thus the pricing mechanisms to come to the most efficient use of health care resources. cont...

  • @AustrianAtheist Health care resources are finite while people's health care needs are infinite. Health care is going to be rationed regardless of whether the government or the private sector does it. The government is interfering with the health care market and is the reason health care is so expensive. The federal, state and local government already account for approximately 50% of the nations health care expenditures all the while health care expenditures have increased dramatically. cont.

  • Health care needs are infinite? Sorry, but that is bullshit² Do you really believe, there is an indefinite demand for healthcare?

Just visit Austria, when you need something, it is free and it works perfect. My 95 year old greatgrandfather just got a new knee - for free. In your country that would be impossible.

And the OECD has proven that our system is much more efficient. You spend more money on healthcare (input), but get less output

  • @bullpcp once heatlh care costs started going out of scope with the public market was when the system finally became corrupted. People should be paying on a sliding scale per the amount of income they make. Govt has never effectively addressed the real issues as to how to get medical costs down. It's bullshit.

  • @AustrianAtheist Health care is not FREE. Limited health care proffesionals are the result of the AMA who routinely turn away the majority of applicants into nursing, PA, and MD programs to limit the supply of health care professionals. The government requires you to see a doctor regardless your milady when health care costs are decreased in other countries limit you to a nurse unless necessary. The require insurance, give tax breaks, add mandates then complain about insurance cost. cont...

  • @AustrianAtheist The way they propose to reduce costs are almost universally denied to the private sector. It these proposed health care cutting proposals are so effective then it makes not sense to deny the private sector the opportunity to try them. National health care, reduces or eliminated mandates, regulatory modification on health care resources all denied private sector but proposed as cost cutting measures. BTW I don't necessarily agree with Charlie Ranger's specific arguments.

  • You're right Charlie. There might be people who will see Dr's or nurses for treatment they don't need. Probably more than you know. But that wasn't the question. He was asking about providers who would bill the government for treatments conducted that the patient doesn't need. You're the one who changed the subject to the patient seeking health care they don't need, which you also admitted would happen.

  • Charles Rangel is guilty in the cover up of murdered NYC Police Officer Philip Cardillo on April 14, 1972 at the Harlem Mosque.

Anyone unfamiliar with this event I urge you to research it yourself, please.

The fact that this human piece of waste holds a position as an elected official is extremely troubling at the least....

  • Hilarious. Rangel seemed like a good sport.

  • People love free stuff. They'll take as much of that free stuff as they can get.

  • In Austria we have nearly free healthcare. Your assumption is ridicolous. Why should I have operation, I do not need? The problem is, that people do not go to ythe doctor as often as they should, not the opposite.

Man, some of you Americans are still living in the 19th century.

  • Jan, I believe in you.

  • Jan should have a national news interview show. Goodbye Charlie Rose, or david gregory etceter

  • Charlie Rangel is a cunt.

    fat shit.

  • Another Mental ill person on the Hill...!!!

  • Rangel has a long history of corruption... Neglecting to pay taxes is minor compared to the dirty dealings this one sided career politician has been involved with. I wonder if he is part of the Lois Farrrakhan regime.

  • :36 " i will concede to you, there are some very mentally ILL people who will try to RIP OFF THE FEDERAL GOVT..." I guess that INCLUDED YOU CHUCKIE, you TAX CHEATING Coo Coo.....

amazing what u will hear people say, when you listen closely. LOL

  • i love the fact that we have another piece of garbage senator that cheated on his taxes , and recieved kick backs but he will never be charged with it , and he knows it , the worst that will happen is he loses his seat he still keeps his money ,and he is not the only one but pelosi and the others just stand right beside him and expect us to just except it what really pisses me off is that the irs would come after me if i or you owed 100 i say vote them all out and start over dems and rep.

  • Check out Rev. Michel Faulkner for Congress.

  • Corrupt piece of sh!t!

  • freakin crook should be put in jail for tax evasion and his assets taken to pay us back for his fraudulent office .

  • The black dracula shall go to jail! Lets cross our fingers...

  • Tax Cheat.

  • Rangel is one of the most racist people i've ever heard of.

"Whites just can't belive that there is a black man in office" -Charlie Rangel

What a coward, hiding behind that race card just so he can bash conservitives

  • Although I think he's a scumbag and a tax cheat, I admit Rangel is kinda funny.

  • He did not pay his taxes, right ?

  • He needs to be in an Orange Jump Suit! Serving food on metal trays in a huge concrete building. Yet another left wing piece of shit. Corrupt and Greedy, that's all you need to be in the Obama administration! I wonder how much my membership fees would be?

  • This administration does have the largest collection of bizarre, lying, cheating, tax-evading politicians I've ever seen. How did they do that, is it part of the Obama adiminstration's famous "vetting processs"?

  • Its difficult to keep all the tax cheats in Obama's administration straight ..

and Pelosi and the rest of the Dims still protect him

    pathetic and disgusting

  • haha, he's a tax cheat

  • Totally wrong of course and corrupt as hell, but Rangel's one of the smoother talking and more clever politicians I've heard.

    Watch this POS closely NY.

    btw,

the more gov and bureaucracy standing between the payer and the recipient of a service, the more theft (not to mention the loss of meaningful and corrective price signals).

This is a fact for those with eyes to see.

  • Charlie Rangel may be a clever politician, but he is not "smooth talking".

Indeed, he's the most gravelly voiced individual I have ever heard.

  • How do you figure? Saying "that scenario hasn't concerned our experts" is powning someone? That sure didn't stop him from coming up with his own little hypothetical situation with the ulcer. Someone please get this pseudo-intellectual out of congress...

  • powned? How childish. No, unfortunately, he did not.

  • I voted for OBAMA and he wanted CHANGE look whos still in office CHARLIE RANGEL

  • He is awfully worried about people ripping off the federal govt, yet he rips the taxpayers off everyday. He sure as hell didn't pay for that Cadillac he drives. The hard-working American taxpayers paid for the car along with his luxury penthouse in NYC. Charlie Rangel cares about one person, Charlie Rangel. What a big shit.

  • no "avalaaansh" of freeloaders showing up for free health care? guess he's never worked in a clinic having to coddle adult medicaid leeches on a daily basis. NOBODY uses more than the freeloaders. that's why it's called freeloading/

  • rangel can suck what dangles between my legs

  • New Yorkers please vote this dirt bag out of office.

  • Charlie Rangel is simply an imbecile.

  • Even as he fends off accusations about his own failure to pay taxes, Rangel had quietly slipped into the health-care bill broad new provisions cracking down on taxpayers ...

  • Rengal is either naive or full of shit, and I wouldn't put either option past him. This stuff happens in worker's comp all the time. They know it, and worker's comp is a huge problem and it always has been and they want to expand on a system fundamentally similar. It is a disaster.

  • I like how Rangel is trying to disregard simple principles of economics, saying "take my word for it."

  • Rangel doesn't care about how the public will be ripped off he just wants to gain power and spend other people's money.

  • Wow, Rangel did better than anyone else. That's sad.

No doubt the "public option" will only increase the artificial demand and thus artificial scarcity of doctors.

    Keep it up, Jan.

  • Charlie doesn't age or need health care, because the devil hooks him up via "Faustian Bargain" Insurance. "All you have to do is let central bankers rape America and turn it into communist Russia, and you can live forever... LOL (live forever in a communist hellhole)

  • Jan really gets to these idiots. The more condescending they get, the stupider they look.

  • My roommates in my dorm room took 45 minute showers and never turned off their lights/tvs becaus they knew they didn't have to pay utilities. Now they pay attention to that stuff because it costs money.

  • The main reason people can't answer the questions is because of that damn mustache.

  • Because the sheer awesomeness of the stache prevents any normal human logic from functioning?

The very presence of "The Stache" shuts down the cerebral cortex and sends the person spiraling down into a desperate state of confusion and irrationality?

Tom Selleck ain't got shit on that stache.

  • jan didn't reall ask any piercing questions, once the tax money is stolen, you can argue all you want who gets what goodies because its prefereable to considering the hidden costs of taxation

  • "take my word for it" LOL

  • Does Charlie ever age??? Its like he turned 50 and then stopped aging. Dude is almost 80. He looks 30 years younger than he is.

  • I have to admit, Charlie is a very cool character. Eventhough he's a tax thief.

  • charlie rangel is a disgrace.

  • Charlie handled Jan far better than Pelosi or Stark or many other jerks. I have a bit of grudging respect for Charlie after seeing this interview.

  • he has 3 ethics violation hearings against him...

  • Hearings. Hearings.

Judging from this interview alone, Charlie Rangel comes off pretty well.

  • he is a politician he knows how to weave a tale...he may be the most corrupt member of congress. But every election he gets 92% of the vote cause we suck...and like Shakespeare said "the devil can quote scripture for his own use."

  • I guess Charlie Rangel also thinks that paying taxes is voluntary. Pay all your taxes, Charlie.

  • Is Charlie Rangel going to be hung or shot?

  • So much for Nancy PIGlosi's most "open, ethical and honest Congress in history".

  • at least he was civil in comparison to some of the truly obnoxious and rude people jan has interviewed

  • true.

  • Generally speaking more of a service is used when it is FREE.

  • Rangel is truly an immoral, narcissistic, ignoramus. He is one of the chief thieves for the gov't. He should be shunned by all freedom loving people.

  • Jail Rangel

  • and he is charge of american tax policy...put his in jail.

  • Chuck Rangel is a disgrace...

  • The Republicans have a rule that if indicted they lose thier chairmanship.

Democrats have not such rule, so Rangle stays despite not paying any taxes.

Libs, go ahead and call names and make excuses with profainity laded replies. I am no REPUBLICRAT. Rangel needs to go!

  • Actually, both Charlie and Jan were right on certain points. Philosophically, I agree with Jan, but Charlie was right in that poor people get sick more often than non-poor people, so that's why they see doctors more often since medicaid entered the picture.

But, Jan was absolutely correct in that if healthcare is government provided, and viewed as "free," then people don't give a rat's ass about cost, and don't shop around like they do when they're paying for something themselves.

  • Wow, that was first rate entertainment. When it dawned on Charlie that he couldn't gloss over economic reality he simply amplified his BS to obscure.

  • Kudos to one pol for at least staying congenial with Jan....I have more respect for Rangle in that he at least will duke it out in a civilized & reasoned fashion. It doesn't mean he's right...but at least he didn't ask the camera be cut off or interview ended just because he was being asked questions that strike deep to his core beliefs....even if those beliefs have no bearing on personal freedom or deep morals.

  • I think Charlie Rangel did very well defending his position in this interview. He didn't persuade me to change my opinion but he held his ground, Unlike Pelosi. If we had a free market health care system, and the country had a prosperous economy, health care would still be provided for free by volunteer organizations. It is a mistake for people to assume that just because the government isn't providing a service that the service won't exist.

  • It's not the doctors, its the patients wanting more services when they know it is free. The reason they get more operations after medicare/medicaid they can actually get them and not worry about bills. True that this benefit is being abused, we get sooooooo many patients on medicare or aid come in for the SMALLEST things

  • Apparently, people use free services more than those they have to pay for...weird.

  • Rangel is a member of the parasite class. He takes advantage of all the largess that comes his way as long as somebody else pays for it.

  • Because poor people often believe they are getting something for nothing, they're more easily talked into unnecessary medicines and surgeries that harm them while boosting profits for mega drug companies and high tech medical providers.

  • What Rangle so deftly avoids is addressing the fact that the reason heath care is so expensive in the first place is precisely because of the insurance system. No one, including many doctors knows how much a typical doctor's visit costs. the average person's deductible will cover it. Are you being overcharged? Well, just look at the actual pricing on your hospital or doctor's bill. The insurance system acts as a de facto price control system, resulting in price increases and shortages.

  • @jcompt666 Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) -- is a member of the Trilateral Commission and knows 33rd degree secret is the 1899 Alaska Earthquake - British Association record No. 333, at Shide. Isle of Wight on September 3 at three o’ three.

  • Rangel doesn't know anything about medicine. He's gonna get ulcers from Jan's piercing questoins? Ulcers are caused by bacteria, so does Jan's questions have bacteria all over them?

  • Haha somewhat less evasive.

  • Rangel came off a lot better than the others that Helfeld interviewed. He didn't blow up, and he answered the questions directly. The claim that poor people get sick more than rich people is plausible. I doubt that it's true. Not unless the poor people are extremely poor by US standards. But it is plausible.

  • agreed

  • Actually, I can't remember who did the study (ill look for it) but in Canada, the rate of people who seek care, is divided along income levels at rates no different than in the US. The big difference however, is that Canadian Health systems suffer a 25% higher mortality rate for things like cancer and heart disease.

  • Why does the guy get so upset about this very simple and straight forward observation of fact. Having people use a service more and also not worry about getting the best price is a logical outcome of making the service free to them. The congressperson doesn't need to avoid admitting this, all he needs to do is say "Yes, this is one of the short comings of the system we have which is increasing the bills paid by taxpayers."

  • This dude, Jan, is great. Rangels "reasoning" is illogical.

  • Rangel is saying there is no increased demand for free things.
