  • GREEN DAY WALKING CONTRADICTION :)

  • music sucks today

  • I'm sick of people saying music sucks today. If you only listen to mainstream radio, yeah you're going to find a great deal of crap. But if you take the time to look for good music, you'll surely find some. Franz Ferdinand and the Fratellis, to name a couple of my favorites from the last decade.

And I'm quite sure people just like all of you were complaining of how dead music was back in the 70's and 80's, too, and couldn't stand mainstream radio.

    My God people.

  • todays music sucks because people running the music biz today know nothing about music. they just a bunch of corporate execs that have never ENJOYED the music. its about money, money, money

  • Ray as a Busker in the tubeway ro

    x!

  • You need to take the words 'One of' out of the description... The Kinks rule!

  • Love this song!! The Kinks are so underrated.

  • I was fortunate enough to see the Kinks 7 times. Now we're so subjected to the american idol crap machine and all the celeb private life bullshit....there is no longer a place for great music like this except for in the enlightened record collection.

  • lol sharing fantasies

  • Greatest Band ever with a really great.

  • The kinks one of the best all time great bands I never got to see. Great track as well.

  • hihi Hot latin blond girl

  • 13 people suck elephant cock, mightily.

  • people in america don't understand Kinks videos because we didn't live in post war Britten most of the kinks videos showed sceans of post war britten but as an american in 1983 I loved this song sooooo much and still do LOVE THE KINKS.

  • What amusement park is the ending scenes filmed at?

  • One of the best bands ever..

    would rank.....

    1 Beatles

    2 rolling stones

    3 dire straits

    4 kinks

  • @keithsmove The Kinks are better than the rolling stones

  • @keithsmove Dire Straits?

  • @dogdefran whats wrong with Dire Straits?

  • @keithsmove Nothing wrong, great band with MK. Ranked #3 all time is pretty strong.

  • FuzzboxVoodoo94. well said ,

  • I think than The kinks only had hits in 60's and this is 80's

  • @gonzataker Technically, the Kinks had several hits in the 80s: Destroyer, Better Things, Come Dancing, Don't Forget to Dance and Do It Again. Look it up! Popularity-wise they weren't what they were in the 60s and 70s but were still incredibly relevant. I was a little girl in the early 80s and knew who they were - from kids not much older than me - before I even heard them.

  • @MsLithium21 Dont forget the late 70's: Wish I could fly like Superman; Low Budget; Rock and Roll Fantasy; Sleepwalker; Father Christmas; Juke Box Music

  • @kinksboss1 Absolutely! All of them tremendous classics too... The Kinks may be associated with the 60s but they were just warming up back then.

  • @MsLithium21 I guess its just personal preference. I liked the beatles but i LOVED the Kinks

  • Daves guitar kicks ass as usual.

  • The boy at 2:03 look´s like Harry Potter lol.

  • Excellent tune!

  • Take a break Wonderlegs...life is too short :)

  • Wonderful song! Love the Kinks.

  • I guess 13 people don't want to do this again

  • the last tour with their drummer Mick Avory was this one. I saw them in Austin maybe 1985 or so...

  • Love the cameo by Lee Van Cleef!

  • CLICK!!!!!!

  • I was paid a tenner for being an extra in this video, on my scooter sx 150 Lambretta in 1982, I,m not even in it!!!! LOL. Poxy cold wey miserable day as well!

  • damn good song, too bad those old songs just way too bad quality -.-

sucks to listen with good speakers ...

  • Amazing song btw

  • Why do just Mick and Ray star in this video ?

  • go ahead kinks!!! perry goes with you.M

  • God this song is good!

  • This song came out when I was 11 and it was my introduction to the Kinks. I didn't have a mature understanding of what they were singing about but I just "felt it." Such good stuff. They just kept evolving, always true to themselves.

  • This was the song that "really got me" - still want the SNL performance of this song...

  • pete townshend called ray davies the poet laureate of england.

  • pete townshend called ray davies the poet laureate of england.

  • pete townshend called ray davies the poet laureate of england.

  • Why can't we have music like this these days? The radio is filled with nothing but garbage in the form of slut pop, hip-hop crap, Bieber-bullshit and Lady Gaga. Whatever happened to rock?

  • green day?

  • Ray is such a natural ham, LOL. Love this video. Note the recurring character the "spiv" from Come Dancing.

Dave fulfilled a lifelong dream "being a train conductor." :)

  • Walking Contradiction?

  • Where is my old buddy Mike Gallagher anyway??? It's been 25 years.........

  • Me and my buddy Mike Gallagher from Philly used to listen to this album from The Kinks like a million times a week back in the 80's.....Joe...

  • I don't know what happened to them in the last 15 years or so but I wish they would get back again....Like they just vanished away...WHY, What happened to them????????

  • the kinks are the reason i turned out half way decent,.. i always thought i was the only kid on my block to listen to them... they always had great concerts...

  • Thank god for keeping the Kinks through the 80's ! Loved every album they produced ! I severely wish that they could "Do It Again" ! I really miss the Kinks !

  • I REMEMBER WHEN MTV WORLD-PREMIERED THIS BACK IN FALL '84. HARD TO BELIEVE (AND TRAGIC) THAT MTV WAS ONCE THAT COOL. WHEN THEY STARTED W/ THE RAP, THAT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE END. LOVED THE WORD OF MOUTH ALBUM! ANOTHER GREAT ONE "SOLD ME OUT"...HAD A FRIEND WHO MET RAY DAVIES, AND SAID THAT RAY WAS SUCH A LAID-BACK, REGULAR, DOWN-TO-EARTH GUY. HE OFFERED MY FRIEND A CIG...

  • Theres Just too Many Hit Songs from this one great band !! The Kinks Will Live on Forever !!! Forever ... i tell you ,...

  • Filmed at the ghost station Aldwych?

  • Excellent Video!!..Love THe Kinks! Timeless!!

  • dear YouTube Advertisement Pop-Up, if we're watching The Kinks more than likely we don't give a sh*t about "The Music Of Glee".

  • @FuzzboxVoodoo94 hahahaha darn tootin' pal!!! love to dance in my room to this and also I listened to the doobie brothers livin on the fault line album again and they really stand the test of time (at least to me) same with the kinks. and since you mentioned glee; what's up with everything being a contest, competition? I have been enjoying the show the Voice, it's great !

  • @FuzzboxVoodoo94 Amen.

  • @FuzzboxVoodoo94 LOLOL what's Glee ??

  • I just read a comment mentioning that song song rips off Green Day's song.. and my heart broke.

  • @EmmiePwns Walking contradiction ? thats my guess anways =]

  • @EmmiePwns i like the kinks and green day, an i think you should be happy about todays musicians inspiring themselves with this genius. Check out green day's* warning* and the kink's *the last of the steam powered trains*

  • @TheCocknbulls I get that, but people must have some serious mental retardation to say that The KInks "stole" this song from Green Day. Lol

  • @TheCocknbulls both rock

  • @TheCocknbulls you mean Picture Book

  • that drummer reminds me of adam samberg

  • The Kinks kept me sane in the mid 80's, and this is one of their latest, greatest* songs (with a great film clip). Of course it sank like a stone. So what? Everyone was into Culture Club or The Bangles. The other guy in the subway is original Kinks Drummer Mick Avory, who left after this album, but Ray insisted on having him in the video (1984).

    * latest, greatest song may have been 'Scattered' from 1993, but check out Ray's 'Workingmans Cafe' (2007)

  • wtf this tottally rips off green day's walking contradiction!! I JOKE! NOW SHUT UP AND LEAVE COMMENTS ABOUT THE KINKS AND FORGET ABOUT GREEN DAY.

  • Great "Green Day" riff !! Just waaaaaaaay before there was a "Green Day"!!

  • ALL of the tours KICKED ass...,

  • A great and classic tune from a classic band. This is a cool song to listen to when you pry yourself outta bed in the morning. Try it !

  • Dave Davies essentially invented the rock power chord-You really got me and All day and all of the Night in 64 before townsend, hendrix, richards, page

  • @culls33 yep, they all copied him, especially even the great Jimi Hendrix, Clapton too

  • Comment removed

  • Never in my life have I ever found more comfort or sense of Joy in a band. The fact that these guys never got the credit they deserved is just another reasson they are so special. The real underdogs of Rock. God Save The Kinks

  • @Mr22475Puk - They get credit in the U.K. just not the U.S. as they were banned from performing there and so they decided to just focus on the U.K.

They always describe Davies as the "MOD father" i.e. the inspiration of that movement which included bands like The Jam and Oasis etc. Although the Who might have something to say about that as they never get credit but they do shift records so all's fair I guess. Both formed in London in 64

  • @Mr22475Puk Well said! Well said! I could not agree more!

  • @brianbuck70 I was paid a miserable tenner to be an extra in this video, main reason was because I had a lambretta sx150 with all the mod cons on it!(excuse the pun) I,m not even in shot LOL

  • click the movie

  • Guys theres only so many sounds you can get with power chords that actually sound good. Both Green Days Walking contradiction and Do it again are great songs but the kinks did have an 11 year advantage. Power chords were first used 60 years ago so by now everything has been done with them, so now you either make up your own chords (like jimi hendrix ) or use other bands to "inspire" you. Green Day was simply "inspired." Now can we end the conversation about Green Day and get back to The Kinks?

  • @Ace2206 the Kinks really were one of the first to use the power chord with distortion to good effect ( by shredding the amps with razor blades I have read ! ) They were trying to get that heavy distorted tone very early on . And btw Green Day and the Kinks should never be mentioned in the same breath as far as I am concerned !

  • I adore the Kinks &this song had been abused by me lol.. ;)

  • @talmilan I was playing some serious air guitar to this evry day when I was 12 or so in 1985 or wahtever it was ,and I still wear it out today

  • The Kinks FAWKING RULE!!!

  • Ohh, the riff is the almost the same with the green day one.

Someone must do an remix with this songs xD

  • Love the cameo by the one and only Lee Van Cleef!

  • well im a kid and i fukin love the kinks and beatles and cure and the animals and every1 i show this music to loves it so @flippy flyer u can fuk of :)x

  • @seanstevens01 Righton, kid! YOU are of a special kind. Keep on researching--it pays off!

And @flippyflyer down there, this PROVES kids know shit about music right here.

Or, as The Who put it, "The kids are alright".

  • This song ages extremely well.

  • 13 people are deaf.

  • i like green day but most modern rock is crap...the kinks are a great band

  • Looks like the Brighton Pier

  • back whwer U stated.........

  • Let's not put each other's music down. Just listen and watch this great musical thing! Love the Zeppelin riff starting at 1:29. It's good to share!

  • Dave [Davies] said it well on their BBC Session CD: "It's pop music really"

  • love this track so much! i love ray davies!!

  • Rock and Roll: Dave Davies guitar riffs

  • Any video with Lee Van Cleef in it is bad azz.

  • Bonjour, vous aimez les sixties ? écoutez et podcastez mon émission "le super son des 60's" sur le site de plumfm. You like the 60's ? please, listen and podcast my broadcast "le super son des 60's", connect to "plumfm". Salut et faites gaffe au rock and roll.

  • @21stCenturyIdiotz It is no secret that Green Day are pop-punks who rip off older sounds. Having said that, Dookie is a desert island lp for me.

  • Ray Davies ran right up next to me at The Valley Forge Convention Center when I saw them and just stood there singing (not to me of course) it was pretty cool.

  • @todd291022 awesome! i would have kissed him till the security pulled me off!!!

  • I don't know what anyone thinks but that was good guitar playing.

  • @schizoidboy Damn right!!!

  • POP? Morons.

  • Pop is squeaky-clean music for the kiddies.

This is not pop. This is new wave.

  • Yep, well said

  • Greenday can kiss my ass the kinks is where it's at

  • @zmu98 DAMN STRAIGHT!

  • What a *gem* 8>D

  • What a gem!

  • @21stCenturyIdiotz plus they didint even 'steal' the riffs they would of had to pay something to 'use' the riffs, i love the kinks and i love green day , both bands are great :)

  • back were we started....come onnnnn DO IT again .....its rocks

  • Green Day so ripped this off with Walking Contradiction

  • @birdy47 Just listened to Green Day there not even trying they ripped the hole thing.

  • Love the Kinks drummer Mick collecting the money in this vid. and also the cameo by Lee Van Cleef.

  • I agree with burn001down, but thanks for postin! lolz

  • If there's an afterlife I would like to spend it with the likes of the Kinks.

  • back where we started..

  • @21stCenturyIdiotz dude who the hell r u? sean97williams said the kinks were shit - everything isnt about you mate

  • Pop music? Check yourself please!

  • The Kinks just keep amazing me...It was several weeks ago when "Destroyer" was on the radio and it made it have to revisit them. They had true range...their music is instantly recognizable as the Kinks; yet Apeman, Come Dancing, Lola, they are unique. They might be the most under rated band.

They are cooler than they pretend to be!

  • Luv the cameo by the one and only Lee Van Cleef, RIP.

  • Buenisima rola de los kinks, ray davis como siempre !

  • When im feelign down this song motivates me.

  • relese it now...dead cert no1!

  • How the hell can somebody not like the Kinks especially this song?

  • @zitlight73 i only have 2 theories. deafness. inbreeding

  • nice nose!

  • kinks rocks!

  • Definately one of the MOST influential bands of the British Invasion. Many bands owe gratitude to the Kinks inspiration....

  • what a song

  • needs more dave.

  • Love the cameo by the on and only Lee Van Cleef RIP

  • I love them

  • Kickin' guitar licks, one of my all time faves, this track. the Brothers Kink could always cut the mustard and threw some mean punches, not just the musical variety. Fist fights onstage were of legendary status.

  • Guau!!!! este vide y esta cancion era de mis favoritas, los amo the kinks.

  • The great Ray and Dave Davis from the The Kinks 1980s revival. Nice message, too.

  • 台北電影節 搖滾我還要 搶先看

  • Yea and Mick is playing the bum.

  • Bloody hell, a fine band, ever so dismissed and underrated and yet thanks for our little secret

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know if it gets any better than this!!

Lord I miss those days of great Rock

  • I like Ray in music videos. He always plays great characters. Funny spotting his brother Dave as the conductor

  • Such good pop.

  • What kind of resonater is Ray playing?

  • this song always come to mind when i have to get going, so i'll be starting back were i started!

  • what ever became of the kinks.last time i saw them inconcert was in the 80sare they still together or have solo careers?

  • @Desiree50 Maybe a bit late answer but Ray still does solo tours, and some other band members are in a sort of tribute band called 'Kast Off Kinks', Dave was sitting at home for a long time as a result of a heart attack i thought it was. Hope I informed you well enough! Lennart

ps sorry for the mistakes I might make, I'm a 14 year old Dutch boy ;p

  • green day totally ripped off this song with "walking contradiction"

  • @skotxmeyerx9 ah mate, im listening to the kinks, must you bring green day up? do i take a dump next to you while you're having lobster?

  • @skotxmeyerx9 -who hasn't green day ripped off? ;-)

  • @crapple009 your the shit that i find at the bottom of my shoe ;)

  • @sean97williams Ah, such the typical Green Day fan, you are then, eh? I'm so pleased I got such a reaction from you. Btw, it's "you're" as in "You are shit", not the possessive "your", as in "Your shoes need cleaning, lad, so go to it ".

What a typical Kinks fan I am, I am. ;-)

  • @crapple009 haha, the funny thing is that your probaly a 40 year old virgin living with his mom, and yes you are a typical kinks fan, a dickhead that thinks they know everything and saying ALL music after the kinks era is shit :)))

and btw, green day may have stolen the riff, but they made more money from that song than you will ever make in a lifetime, and they're still probaly making thousands of dollars now :))))))) so FOD! if you know what that means.

  • @sean97williams Yes, shit sells, as the saying goes. I'm sure they're earning millions and millions of dollars from their empty, cliched rhetoric. The love of money is the root of evil and btw, shouldn't you be cleaning your room, doing homework or busy being duped by those "punks", Green Day?

Oh yeah- stop trying to be shocking with your "profanity". Puh-lease, give it a break, twerp.

  • @sean97williams it ain't about money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats what alot of people in music now are in it for - sycophantic cunts!

  • @sean97williams dude

if you hate the kinks so much the fuck off - oh yea your so cool clicking on a song you dont like - and then telling everyone it is shit - newsflash retard - we all have OUR OWN OPINIONS - so if you dont like it THEN DONT LISTEN TO IT - idiot

oh and btw it isnt that all music after the kinks is bad - its just that you wouldnt know good music if it deafened you

  • @sean97williams What are you doing here?

  • @skotxmeyerx9 your a dickhead :)))

  • In the late 60's Mick told an american producer to shove his contract up his ass!! It wasn't until 4 years later in 72 that the kinks played on American soil thanks to Bill Grahm. Ray told this story at an intimate concert I was at last night in Scranton Pa. Imagine that, 42 years later... It was a blast

  • @RatDog67

actually it was 1969 when Bill Graham helped get them back, they were banned from 1966-69

  • yea everyone want to be like the kinks but noone admit it

  • Damn the verse sounds just like Walking Contradiction lol

  • I so forgot how good this song is, great post.

  • Just awesome. Great concept song - rockin' percussion, harmonies, blistering lead guitar - rock at its best.

  • I like how the band members appear throught the video, and the cameo by the one and only Lee Van Cleef.

  • This song rocks my socks

  • la la la la la la...ignoring all of the Green Day babble and focusing on this fantastic song...again...what a song! i can't get enough of it!
