This man inspired me to play bass I have fallen in love with the instrument now! But why does he do the thing where he hits himself in the head lol ? I've seen him do that before.
@SamuelScott94 Well bass amplification technology is at a point where Geddy doesn't need massive amps to broadcast his raw sound. So in order to fill up the extra space of the stage they used washing machines filled with custom t-shirts; you should see what Geddy used now instead of those machines...
@D0llton Either you didn't actually see the time machine tour, or you couldn't tell the difference between Geddy (who had an elaborate sausage-making time machine behind him) and Alex (who had amps shaped like old-fashioned radios with round displays on them that might look a little like "golden washers with rubber chickens swirling around in them"). Either way, I am quite confused.
@lukekinn On the recent Time Machine tour, he had "time machines"/sausage cookers. But he's actually switched to using amps rather than using a DI box to the PA system.
if you expected something better look for his little "filler" licks from la villa strangiato, where's my thing, yyz, etc. this isnt really all that great nor was it supposed to be
Hmm. I expected something better from Geddy. One things for sure, the bass lines he plays while singing are certainly incredible enough! He actually doesn't need to do a solo. Still, seeing that he did decide to do one, i thought it would be more melodic and structured like Jaco Pastorious did on the Weather report live record. Maybe it was just impromptu, but I can't imagine he'd do one on the spot like that.
Geddy is EVERY bit as good, if not better, than Cliff Burton was and THAT is saying a LOT. Geddy seems to have more technique but that could be because of the many years he's been playing.
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
damn guys, this is a geddy lee vid, why the hell is everyone talking about other bassists? each one has his own style, they're all incredibly skilled we already know this... there is no "best", but favorite... so don't try to compare different styles because it won't fucking work
@Rafescow he's MY faviroute bassist of all time. i have a huge respect for bassists from jaco to flea and all inbetween like wooton, hamm, sting, turner, claypool and every other bassist on the planet from me to you but i find geddy's bass lines are amazing and fresh
@Rafescow Dude, I know exactly what you mean..... This one guy flipped out cause i didn't think John Mayer was THE BEST guitarist in the universe, he kept calling me arrogant and kept saying that i have no idea what i'm talking about.... good thing i blocked him!
Yeah he doesn't usually play with amps. he plugs straight into the mixing board to get his tone so he uses washing machines to fill the background where his speaker cabs would go :)
en el documental de rush in rio Geddy Lee dice que se distendió lo que le hacía perder la movilidad de la mano y aun con ese problema pudo tocar su bajo de manera increible
I'm convinced the only great bassist who solo's with a sense of musicality is Claypool. All these other guys: Wooten, Lee, Entwhistle, Marcus Miller just play a bunch of aimless notes while Claypool creates something almost song worthy during a solo.
I think it's because you can get a more accented staccato effect with this approach to double stops over a pedal tone as he's doing here. I find that raking (without nails) doesn't provide that kind of brightness & accuracy, particularly with overdrive, but that is just down to stylistic preference. Raking can create a grace note effect rather than a true double-stop. Geddy's technique is like that of a Classical guitarist.
Yep now i agree with you. with raking the whole thing sounds completely different you can distinguish the double stop from the continous a string. however, the tone with pulling fingers makes it sound awesome!!! go geddy!!!
Oh sorry I'm not saying it's a bad thing Geddy inspired Cliff Burton I was just telling that guy that Geddy inspired him because he thought that Cliff Burton was soooooo much better than Geddy Lee.
lol its a jewish thing he dose, a rule ur suppost to follow something like "whlie playing an musical instrument thou shall not tape its head" and he dose jokingly
Just because someone inspires another person, that doesnt mean for a second that, they are the better player :/ Look at Tommy emmanuel and Chet Akins. Not saying Geddy is better than cliff just pointing it out :)
