  • @bloodyz16x24 Im pretty sure the Fast Track Pro has midi capability and the MobilePre doesnt. Thats it.

  • Comment removed

  • Its compitable with usb 2.0 right? (its a stupid question but i heard by someone it fits with usb 1.1)

  • @bloodyz16x24 Compatible yes, but it does only use the 1.1 protocol so the bandwidth is limited to that. It only does 2 channel recording though so you probably not hit the bandwidth limit. I do 24 bit 48800 record on it with no problems.

  • @sup909 ok so M-Audio Fast Track Pro or M-Audio MobilePre? I still cant understand whats the difference between them!!!

  • this is suprising 200 dollars and uploaded 4 years ago now the price didn't change..what a ripp off

  • @Zoomslang What? Where do you live? I just bought one for $130 Australian.

  • DOES IT HAVE ANY LATENCY PROBLEMS???

  • @GYPSYROMA777 Latency yes. Problems no. I have a latency around 20 ms on an iMac.

  • If I buy this, will it do the job of an audio interface, digital input box and pre-amp in one box? If so, it will save me money on these separates, and separate cables to connect them :)

  • @007slaney For a guitar? I believe so, but I am not 100% sure as I am not a guitar player.

  • i have this and am using it on xp, well trying. i get sound through the headphone jack but when i hook it up to the pc i get nothing, not even midi. i have the latest drivers and am just tryin to use a korg r3 through it. i need help lol

  • get rid of mac and get a pc , best thing you can do

  • @telik002 According to you. Mac has it's advantages. It's a very stable environment for audio work, has logic 9 a great DAW and has a lot of gear exclusive to mac, For example the Apogee line. I could go on for ages but I won't considering you're probably too narrow minded to take it all in =D Please don't post biased as fuck suggestions because frankly no one gives a shit. People can make up their own minds.

  • @QuantikMusic Why do you even bother protecting Mac, you know that PC was , is and will always be better. I guess people like to get screwed when they realize "Ohh damn , why is my new software/hardware not working? Oh wait ... I have a Mac - something that 90% of the people don't!" or you get an IPhone because it's over advertised, while windows based phones do as much if not more than it! I just face palm at people with Macs and what stability are you talking about? PC < never had problems,suP

  • @telik002 You replied to a 2 month old comment only now! WHAT THE FUCK. Why even bother? Did I hurt your feelings, did I make you so upset that after two fucking months you decided you couldn't just leave it?

You know what I didn't even bother reading your comment, I got as far as the first sentence before I decided that you are not worth the effort of rebutting. Please just fuck off and don't waste my time with 2 month old comments. I seriously mean that, don't comment back. IT'S 2 MONTHS OLD!

  • I really need to know this please!! Will M-audio fast track pro resolve the latency issues that I am facing while using a VSTi through my midi keyboard in my fl studio by any chance???!!! Please show me a way here!! The latency that I experience while playing midi is pretty annoying and noticeable.. This drastically affects my timing and playing "ON THE GRID"..Thanks for your help!

  • does this work with linux? ... well Alsa really.

  • @xigen Unfortunately I have not tested it on a Linux machine so I cannot say for sure.

  • how many sounds can it track at once

  • @whitexgreen Do you mean inside a DAW or recording? Basically it can record two channels at once.

  • i have a question, can you plug in a pair of headphones so they're allways on? i mean, so you can hear the audio through the speakers and at the same time hear it in the headphones? do you get me? so when you turn down your speakers the headphones are still on? i would realy apriciate if you could answere this question

  • @olabadola21 Yes. The headphones have independant volume control and there is a mix knob on there that controls whether you are hearing the output or a bypass of the audio.

  • Whats the quality on the Preamps like? with phantom power. and its usb 1? I need a card that will control my VST's on around 10 tracks with low latency. will this be ok

  • @Liquadia1 The Pre-amps are ok. fairly low noise, but nothing to write home about. PLayback of audio from your DAW will probably be more dependent on your computer than the card, but i am not 100% sure since it will vary depending upon what you are doing, the type of VST's, DAW, etc.

  • @ 5:27

perfer resistance to your knobs?? :) ha..

just thought it was kinda funny

  • i'm considering purchasing this, but my OS is vista x64, has anyone used it successfully with this OS? thanks!

  • @papushica11 I have used it on Win 7 64 with no problems.

  • @sup909 Excellent ! You just answered my question !! How`s Pro Tools like to use ? Can i install it on 2 PCs and carry it round between them ? Do you burn whatever you`re working on to a disc and take it with you to other PC ? Actually thinking about getting one today but if i can get better deal online i`d be willing to wait !! They work out at close to $300 in Britain !! We ALWAYS pay more ! Whats that all about ?! Peace Ye`all !!

  • I will never buy m-audio again

  • @1ino1eum why?

  • @MrYevrah A bug. I'm not the only one, check m-audio forum, few ppl got same experience.

Quickly : can't use the sound card with 4 outputs and 2 inputs at 24 bits. Need to either deactivate outputs 3/4 or inputs 1/2, or switch to 16 bits. Yes this card can't record at 24 bits.

MUCH WORSE, I can't have ANY support from m-audio because you have to PAY for a ticket to get help. What a shame

  • @1ino1eum That is probably a bandwidth limitation because the card only uses USB 1.1 not 2.0. I record 24bits on it all the time with the digital coax input or with the TRS inputs.

  • @sup909 I agree as well, but on the manual it's written the Fast track pro can record with those outputs + inputs. And the 24bits is not greyed out, I can select it. And I will never pay for a support, I think I bought the right to get support when I got the product. People are free to do want they want but at least they need to know there is no support if you don't pay extra $ for it. And with so many other products and other companies, there is no reason to go for m-audio or Avid in this case.

  • great Review ,,

but ,, can i record a guitar by this interfce ?

  • @sup909 thx

  • @sup909 Wait a sec it was windows XP but a figured it out thx man peace ;)

  • does this come with pro tools 8 le full version

  • @mistamena6 I bought it several years ago so mine did not. I do not know if the current one does. Mine came with Ableton Live 6 LE.

  • sup...you may have made my day....with yer very informative video....Ive got about 100 (135) tunes ive used on stage for over 20 years played guitar and sang...pulled off good...i ran from the output of the sound module (roland MT-32) to the input of the m-audio fst-trk-pro and thought i really pissed off old school god! it was so loud i thought i killed my new i mac i jst got for63 rd bday. rockiemtnhigh

  • does the record qualtiy depend on your processor? because i just have a mini laptop

  • @bartjuhh12 It shouldn't, but the amount of tracks in your recording project might.

  • hi brother i have fast track pro sound card....but this sound card not working protools why not working protools plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz tel me ...this sound card support protoolsssssssssss?

  • quick question man , when im not recording .. can i just play like guitar, pedals , speaker simulator and plug directly with headphone . do you absolutly need a computer for the device to work , or it can just be use stand-alone , for practice with headphone . i have pedals and speaker simulator . hope oyu understand my question , does it need a computer to work ??

  • Comment removed

  • @artifact26 You can pass the audio right through, yes.

  • 18 channels DIGI 001 works great with Sonar, Cubase ,FL, Reaper, etc, so I dont need an stupid limited Pro tools and a crappy 2 or 4 channels M-Audio interface...

  • @carlosaglez1 Yeah? But what did you pay? I mean its a nice way to go for a laptop setup...can you do that with a big ass DIGI? Anyways this is a "M-Audio Fast Track Pro Review". Not "What the hell does Carlos need"

  • @r3asons Yes I know, and I don't remember why I post this comment really, I think I was drunk or angry against m-audio little boxes, jaja

  • can i put piano and guitar in it ? or its just onley for mic ?

  • @MrJguitarH You can run 2 mono sources in or a stereo source via the XLR or 1/4 TRS inputs. So if the guitar and Piano are each mono on a single mic then yes.

  • @MrJguitarH You cna line in any audio with a 1/4 plug.

  • @MrJguitarH You can plug the guitar in the front of the audio interface in the xlr input there is also a dual instrument input as seen on the video. I strongly suggest not to use the line in on the back and no need to use 1/4 plus. Just use a standard jack plug. It has dual mic instruments inputs. :)

  • I want to be able to play and record guitar at the same time.. how many channels does this have? 2?

  • xlr cable with mic and 1/4 for guitar? how would this set up work?

  • @pkayokay Has 2 XLR/TRS inputs.

  • Hi, I recently purchased the fast track pro and I am having so much trouble getting it to work. I went to the website and downloaded the driver, installed it and everything. It says its connected when I bring up the properties and Kristal* even acknowledges that its there. But when I try to record I get no sound. I have a piano and a guitar plugged into the two inserts in the back but the signal lights do not come on. Any ideas?

  • Hello, nice review! I actually purchased a avid m box mini and i am having second thoughts about it. I wonder how much difference it would be compared to what you have. Could you tell me the difference?

  • does it work on a laptop

  • @tufio123 read the fucking description and read

  • does anyone know if it works with samplitude 15 or cubase5?

  • can you use any pogram with it or dose it only work with the one it comes with cuz i like useing adobe audition to record my guitar shit

  • @admiral8toes Any program should work, it just shows up as an audio device in Windows and Mac.

  • Thank You very much for sharing your thoughts about this product! I use Audacity, Sony Acid Pro 7.0 and Sony Vegas 9.0, and I am considering purchasing the Fast Track Pro (or Ultra). This Video is a few years old. Do you still feel that this is worth getting, or is there something newer? I am sending you a video of, what I think, is the BEST sound I was able to "capture," using Audacity & my Sony programs. However, the majority of my other videos sound HORRIBLE, which is why I need an interface.

  • very good reveiew thanks , i'm considering of buying it..

  • please tell me does this work with windows 7?

  • @drugdrunkker it does, but the drivers that come with the box aren't so succesful... even with Compatibilty Mode. I went to the M-Audio website and downloaded the Fast Track Pro 6.0.2.5.10.0.5134 Windows 7 Drivers.

    Hope this helps.

  • @sup909 Yes, work with windows 7 64 bits.

  • is it compatible with protools m-powered......or fl studio?????

  • @JabaJamzRecords both of them work very smoothly. I used FL Studio 9 and it picked it up like a charm, same with Pro Tools M-Powered 7.

  • so concerned with your knobs... Good review though. Thoroughly informative.

  • hey i have logic pro 9 and i bought this fast track pro and it wont work but it has worked on garageband once then stopped. what should i do?

  • @trentXXtink Dunno exactly if it works on one, but not the other. Are you using an M-Audio driver?

  • I challenge anybody to put something like a fast track pro up against a professional interface and converter with a professional DAW. Then tell me if you think the fast track sounds good.

  • @crashdog5866 That comment doesn't make sense. Am I supposed to but a Ford Focus up against a Corvette and ask which one is better? The Fast Track Pro is an excellent piece of hardware in its target price range and audience, but it is unfair to compare it to something that costs twice as much if not more.

  • @sup909 What's unfair is that people take a fast track pro, which you can buy at toys are us, and consider it a professional piece of gear. i hate to be so blunt about it but the thing just sounds horrible.

  • @crashdog5866 I'd say it does, just not as much.

  • @eatshitgoogle ?????

  • Enjoyed your review, thanks. I've been doing some searching for best interface for my Mac intel core 2 duo. Does your Mac description for the install apply to OS 10.6.4.

Lots of conflicting info and you seem to have sound knowledge. Hope ya can help. Thanks

  • @nowmenext I am using the latest version of OS X with no problems.

  • Does it work well With unibody Macs ans Ableton? driver?

  • @pablix809 Dunno, but I have the latest version of OS X on an older Macbook and it works fine.

  • @sup909 i have one condenser mic and im using windows, i will only be recording vocals over an instrumental, will i have any latency issues with this device?

  • @duh650dumcity I wouldn't anticipate any. I have used an MXL 990 and a Shure SM57 with no latency issues.

  • @sup909 alright cool, thanks bro

  • is it usb 2.0 or 1.1?

  • @prince4d 1.1 I believe. I was shocked too.

  • okay so basically u plug it in (im using windows) and it will automatically read it and then u have to install whatever it need to install then u can plug in your mic and then start recording? by the way im using a usb mic and i wana upgrade..so if i install this and get a mic that uses the xlr cables i can use my programs im using now?

  • @MrMakemusicallday Correct, at least on Windows Vista and 7. Class compliance may not work on XP. I am not sure.

  • I would not recommend this soundcard. Aside from lots of other flaws I have discovered with this card and don't have the character count to go into, it is really noisy at the top end of the gain setting. For instance, if you plug in an SM58 mic, and crank up the preamp gain to the proper setting, preamp hiss is very audible. So I wouldn't get it if you were planning on doing any audio recording. Rubbish!!!

You may find it adequate if you are a DJ.

  • great review! in your opinion, would you recommend the fast track pro or the presonus audiobox that comes w/ the full version of studio one artist? presonus seems to be more durable, as it's metal construction, and i've heard the presonus preamps are better than the m-audio pre's. any input would be appreciated!

  • @keerthan @keerthan Personally I think Presonus makes a slightly better product. If you can find the Presonus for the same price I would go with that. The Studio 1 Software is also pretty decent. I reviewed it at release over at orju.net

  • Any latency using this device, with single input and multiple inputs at the same time?

  • @JOeSJNr Latency is a concern with usb. Nothing I have found to be game breaking, but it is present.

  • Does this work with WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM?

I read on zzsounds that it works with Windows Vista except Windows Vista Windows Media Center Edition...which would be Home Premium. PLEASE let me know!!

  • is this thing compatible with other DAW such as Cubase 5, FL studio and adobe audition?

  • @JohnTeoCH Yup

  • @JohnTeoCH, it does work with Cubase 5. However, I'm having a hard time reducing/increasing latency, which I still haven't figured out, which is important for songs with a lot of plug-ins..

  • Alright I am completely new to the recording of music and I've always wanted to be in music production and mixing. I might have an opportunity to buy one of these and I just wanted an opinion. 1. Is this a good thing to start off with? 2. What do you recommend I use to start recording with? (Windows) I am planning on recording E-Drums and Guitar, possibly microphone later on. I have done some minor mixing with audacity but I want something bigger. Is this an overall good option? Thanks

  • @vkw619 If you're using a desktop, actually recommend an M-Audiophile 24/96 soundcard and a small outboard mixer like a Behringer Eurorack MX 802A. (you could get a Mackie or other brand equivalent) Ableton Live Lite and Pro Sessions also come with the Audiophile soundcard. If it's a laptop, get this Fast-track. Home Recording forum is a good source of info.

  • @dariunas I have a desktop but I am going to mainly be using my laptop to record. Any ideas for a good recording forum? Does anyone recommend the Ultra?

  • @vkw619

    1. I think it is a good start to intermediate piece of equipment if you want to do simple recording of vocals or instruments.

    2. What is your budget? If $0 then Audacity. Reaper ($60) is excellent. Some basic DAW's like Tracktion or FL Studio can be had for ~$150.

  • Hmm okey thanks :D

but how do i convert ?;S

  • can a guitar going through an amp go straight into this? if it could would be way simpler then micing

  • @rgjmce666 I dont see why not, although would you get the color tonality you would want from using an amp?

  • @sup909 but i would using an amp, just wondering if it was possible to have a simpler way then micing or would it just sound bad?

  • Does this interface work with vista ?????

  • Question: Why do some people mic their amps to record with this sound card? Isn't it better to just plug the instrument straight into the interface? I'm a little new to this so yeahh., hahah and how's the mic that comes with the interface?

  • @initialdluvr Some people like the coloring or distortion provided by amp.

  • Ive heard that you cant export your music when you are finished.

Can you export the music when you are finished?

  • @ChadGreenTV That is dependant upon the computer or software, not the audio interface.

  • If you have an AMD computer: DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Else you ll regret it like me..

  • @Sorgutentarer why is this? I have AMD.

  • I have a m-audio firewire 410 which is pretty much the same thing but the addition of a second headphone out and a total of 10 outputs. I got it on super clearance for about $150 at Daddy's.

  • Thanks for the review. I think I'll pick one up!

  • For the best guitar feel use a preamp. I'm using my old Line 6 Spider II as my pre for my guitar.

  • Hey! i got a problem whit my fast track i can´t put it up on internet i wanna convert to Mp4 but i dont know how:S thats my problem and i dont got the fast track pro i got the fast track. Only and i downladed the program from the cd the pro tools essenta

so maybe thats the problem i Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

    Cache-Control: max-age=0

ybe dont got the newest version so i cant convert or??

  • @daliborraic The software not the audio interface would determine how to render your track. You can always use iTunes to convert the audio to mp4.

  • Hey! sup great video!

But i got a problem with my Fast track m-audio Not(Pro)

I can record and ervything but i dont know how to make it to mp4 So i can put my stuff on the internet..

Thats my problem so i tought if you have fast track pro you maybe know how to do it becuse its almost theProxy-Connection: keep-alive

    Cache-Control: max-age=0

    0same!

Thanks For Taking The Time To Reading This!

P.S i downladed the Pro tools Essental from%2

  • I want to use this with the Yamaha HS50 monitor speakers. Can I just run audio from my pc's S/PDIF to this ?

  • @SmokestackLightnin79 You can, but that defeats the purpose of the audio interface. Plug this in via USB and it will be your new audio interface.

  • Can anyone help me with latency problems? Running my guitar into this is fine, but when using Logic and using my midi keyboard controlling a synth, I have bad latency through logic. My keyboard is connected to mac by usb

  • @speachmusic maybe you should get a midi cord that might help or maybe if you have the playback on like while your recording if u can hear the sound turn it off.....

  • Thanks. I did think of midi cord, but then using my guitar in amplitube 3 on stand alone I get no latency problems but using AT3 in logic and monitoring I get the same Latency problems. If im using a soft synth I need playback while recording.

  • Assuming you are running iMac G5 system, make sure you plug up into the USB port thats on the keyboard... not the ports on the back of the monitor. See if that works.

  • @4nik8r1 I am using a mac mini! But I will also try that to. Thanks for the idea

  • turn the volume all the way on your keyboard until you finish recording and clear out any other usb ports and see if it works better

  • @speachmusic

First thing you should do is check your drivers and buffer size. If thats not the problem I would definitely get a midi cable as well as usb. When I run my keyboard off just usb I have latency but when I connect a midi cable there is no latency which is critical for soft synths.

  • @BullyBeat Thanks for the info, it is strange it seems the more complex the project then I get latency!!! I think I will just get a midi cable and see where I go from there.

    Thanks again.

  • @speachmusic Trust me get a midi cable, and set your buffers to the lowest you can without it clicking

  • hey man,nice review...i've got a question for you:fast track pro is usb 1.1 or 2.0?thank you

  • Is the input for thsi device an XLR?

  • @YourCheckeredLove It is a combo that will accept XLR.

  • So i am a little new to this type of hardware but...to the creator of the video are you using an external power source or amp? or are you just straight running this into your mac?

  • The interface is powered by the USB connection. I am not using any additional pre-amp or amp.

  • @brettboulet running straight in using USB power only.

  • Great review, thanks

  • Good podcast. Could use a little more planing and polish. Most of all use that new fast track with a good mic to do your podcast. Audio will be so much better.

  • cheers for the review bro, getting the m-audio tomorrow :)

  • lol you like nobs pushing against you

  • @mwhite011 hhahaha good 1

  • I just bought fast track pro and the knobs for the TRS signals are really tight, i gotta struggle to put them in the middle, i guess u got lucky and got a smooth one lol. i'm running a yamaha keyboard through it right now n u wouldn't believe how fast and easy it was to plug in and play on my new Mac computer compared to windows PC. I struggled for weeks trying to find the right driver to hook it to my PC and so i said forget it n got a Mac, Mac and Garage band are so user friendly.

  • Great vid 5 stars

  • can u record with any recording software while using this sound card?

I using under win xp - cool edit pro, fl studio, cubase...etc

  • Correct. It will just show up as an audio device for your operating system.

  • Hello, man this is so well played!

Is it possible to play 2 guitars at the same time, and process them differently??? (maybe guitar a with amplitube and guitar b with guitar rig)

    thank you man :D

  • You can do two guitars, but you won't be able to route them to separate audio applications like that. You can only have the interface going to one application at a time, I believe.

  • @Julome

this dude below is wrong. ist easy. just use guitar rig and amplitube as plugins (vst) in your host application and assign the inputs to the respective tracks

  • @Julome ya ,I use cubase and then I just build a stereo track and use the left input

The build another one and use the right input. Then you should have one guitar on your left speaker and another one on the right. You then add your amplitube to one and the guitar rig to the other one. I do it all the time it works great

  • good review !!!!!

  • could you dj with this?

  • ya dude

  • howcum wen i play the playback only hears from my left speacker? how can i change that? please help!!!!! oh and ?the lowest i can go on latency is 128mls?

  • i dont think so beckasketch

  • what are your thoughts on the fast track pro vs. the regular fast track usb- the one that only has one mic input. is there much difference in quality?

  • I have not used the Fast Track so I cannot comment on it.

  • my computer doesn't recognize it everytime i connected it, it says access is denied so now im trying to reinstall it but it wont read it...what should do??

  • Do you have admin privileges to your PC?

  • hey thanks bro...your video helped me alot on the type of interface i can use with my laptop :)

  • alright well i jus ordered a fast track pro and a perception 120 mic and im running on a laptop with 4 gig of ram and vista 64 bit.. is this gud 2 record with this or not? im pretty new to this i need some help =/

  • 4 gis of ram should be fine. I would reccomend and upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit if you can. It can run 32-bit applications more efficiently
