  • they are so cute

  • That is so Cheating XD

  • This was soo cool! I wish I could to something like that!

  • O.M.G.

  • that was sooo c00l ROFL XD

  • loool thats seems fun :)

  • ha...too sweet :)

  • that actually made me laugh, those things are cute! lol

  • fricken awesome!

  • You seriously have the coolest hobbies ever.

  • lol just wait till stepmania comes with multiplayer SCORE!

  • Toasty! Nice job, I had another idea to stick some photo diode's on the screen and connect them to a keyboard internal circuit xD, but this is also very orginal!

    Greetz, Dnstje

  • I want one of those servo motors, too! :D

  • lol the servo's make a good melody too ;D

  • woooow

    that looks so cool.

    how did you do that????

  • thats amazing.. you're truly gifted if this is what is produced out of your "boredom". When the day comes that you need to really focus on something you'll be astounding

    awesome

  • Lol my friend could probably pwn you. Hes really good at DDR and FFR. Computer vs. Player >;D

  • Haha... well, I wouldn't be too surprised if he could beat me (myself - although you might want to check my more recent StepMania videos). Also, these servos are easy to beat just by jolting things near them since they come off the keyboard... although they also manage to make themselves lose like that by themselves. I only made the thing because I was bored - funny how much of my things come about from boredom...

  • OHHHH THATS CRAZY, I WANT ONE

  • nice programming :D you should make it some hard song AAA

    like Disregard or something :D

    awesome

  • Thanks. I think the best it will ever get is AA, though, since it's almost impossible to make it hit the first note in a song. Since my program's separate from StepMania, it takes a slight bit of trial-and-error to get it in sync at the start of a song (I don't show that here, though).

I'm glad you like it, though!

  • nice nice dude, if those servos are securely placed with a laptop-ish keyboard, it'll probably beat me in game lol

  • you should build those into your keyboard so it looks like your keys ar being pressed by an inviseble man lol.

  • Haha, I'm glad you like it.

Yeah, this is StepMania (version "CVS 4.0"), and it's freeware (source code is even available). A quick Google search should find some download links. ;)

  • haha I wanna try out that 2nd song.

  • 聰明

  • where did you get that stepmania UI, because it looks much nicer than the one i have now.

  • It's just the default UI for StepMania CVS 4. ;)

  • that explains it, i dont have the most recent version.

  • Okay. I will not be impressed until you can make that thing play IIDX.

  • That sounds like a challenge. =D

But damn, I didn't even know about that game until I had a quick look around after you mentioning it just then - it looks awesome!

Well, it was my birthday yesterday, and I have some spare cash floating around... I'll certainly consider it. ;D

  • once that thing FC's Mei, then we'll talk

  • FC? Mei? It would be really useful if we could talk now... =/

Also, this isn't some stupid challenge between "man and machine" - it's just for fun, and the only challenge was for me, while programming it.

  • OMGOMGOGMGMOGOMGOMG :D AWSOME!

  • I take it you used the same packets to make your disco lights? I wanna get into shit like this lol.

  • Yeah - I used the same program which I made (only slightly modified) and the same controller too.

  • So not only is SomethingUnreal a genius composer, he is also a genius programer!

I know how you could solve the problem of if one note would be repeated a lot. Make multiple hammers for that note so that as one goes up the other goes down. That should speed it up twice as fast.

Talking about stepmania, when i asked you if anyone has made any steps of your song, I found a guitar hero make of it. I bet uv seen it.

    Again, Great job!

  • Wow, thanks very much!

Hmm, I had thought about having either 2 servos for each key or an arm which acts like a see-saw on a single servo for each key, but as you can see, there is very little room for the servos to physically fit on the keyboard, so I suppose I'd have to make a more complex system with pinions, etc.

I have seen the Guitar Hero 'chart' (for want of a better word) of my music made with XP/98 sounds, and I really like it.

Thanks very much to the person who made the chart for it.

  • is that possible for a human to play? thats so many notes lol

  • Haha... well, I can pass the first one with one hand, and the second one with both hands. However, someone I know can pass the second one with just one hand too - he is kind of a master at StepMania though, compared to me at least. ;P

  • thats insane.. i can barly do hard with 1 hand...

2 hands is harder than 1 hand for me i get all mixed up lol

  • Lol, well, I think I've become more used to using 2 hands because of a game called PSP Revolution (a basic remake of StepMania, for the PSP). Although with that you use your thumbs rather than your fingers, it's still got me used to kind of 'co-ordinating' 2 hands.

  • That's amazing.

  • thats cheating9 lol but its awsome i wonder if thats how the (fake) pro's do it

  • Haha, I seriously doubt it (making the program 'decode' the StepMania files was hard work, and I doubt that someone who wants to cheat at a game where you tap keys would want to sit typing code for hours/days). xD

Also, I play on SM 3.9, and made these servos play on SM 4 (to keep the scores separate). Although it is fun to watch them going at it by themselves, tapping away yourself is infinitely more fun (especially since I made those lights you can see in a newer vid of mine ;P).

  • hey whats up man

i was wondering how you sync both of your videos togther (of your hands, and then of the moniter)

becuase i dont know how to do that perfectly lol.

  • Well, first, I convert the videos into the same format (originally they're MOV and DV, I convert MOV to AVI with MediaCoder, and record the DV from my camcorder to AVI with VirtualDub). I check to make sure each AVI's video and audio are in sync - if not, I use VirtualDub to adjust frame rate so audio+video durations match (Video -> Frame rate).

Then I used Magix Music Maker Gen6 to arrange the videos (position, mix together) and add titles. Yep, it edits video better than music, heh.

  • I wonder why its not always getting perfect though.

<3 Septette for the dead Princess :D

  • Well, the microcontroller has an accuracy of about 15ms, so it won't be perfect all the time. It seems close enough most of the time. ^^

Ah, it did pass Septette, but I didn't record it, and I can't redo it right now because I've killed the microcontroller by giving it 12v when I didn't realize it could only take 9v. A new one's been ordered though, and by this time next week it should be tapping away again. =D I'll be sure to secure the servos properly next time too.

  • Also, 'Fantastic' is worth more than 'Perfect'.

(Yeah... something not quite right there, but consult the SM team. =P)

  • WOW Nice job :D

The computer is playing against itself... Noone wins *sigh*

  • Thanks =D

    Haha... Yeah. =/

Speaking of winning, I did it on SM4 too (which I don't use much), so I didn't get confused between rankings which it makes and ones which I've actually made myself.

  • There's a SM 4 already??!??! *downloads*
