  • There are also state mandates. For example, Louisiana’s requires labeling but not color.

    Ultimately, it’s up to the organization to develop regulations that meet the requirements mandated on a national, state and even agency level. As always – follow your agency’s protocols.

  • The OSHA standard (which guides practice in the U.S.) labeling biohazards:

    1910.1030(g)(1)(i)(C)

    These labels shall be fluorescent orange or orange-red or predominantly so, with lettering and symbols in a contrasting color.

    1910.1030(g)(1)(i)(D)

    Labels shall be affixed as close as feasible to the container by string, wire, adhesive, or other method that prevents their loss or unintentional removal.

    1910.1030(g)(1)(i)(E)

    Red bags or red containers may be substituted for labels.

  • I think all CONTAMINATED OBJECTS/objects used in contact with the patients must be in the YELLOW TRASH and not the RED one.
