this is a grass hopper, I seen these around my school in florida, when they get bigger they look much weirder but there totally normal and common around where I live
Thanks for the info - I had never seen anything like it, and not being an expert on those insect orders I just applied my layman's observation to it :-) If you happen across a positive species ID, do let me know!

I've never head of a grasshopper that was vemomous before! Definitely get some video of it and post - I'd like to see it, and a good visual might help someone ID it too... 8-)

Interesting - thanks for the info :-) We don't get these around here very often... in fact, this is the first time I'd ever seen one like this!

A species of bush-cricket, Tettigoniidae
Nothing abnormal IMO

Looks like s species of grasshopper. The colors could be a warning that it's poisonous.

You're probably right. I never did get an ID on it, but I think it's trying to mimic a colorful spider or something to keep from being eaten itself.

I don't all my id books at the house yet, otherwise I might take a stab at it.

Well if you ever do, please let me know what it is! :-)

I'm still not sure what it was, but you're right - the colors were what made me want to get some video of it! Thanks for watching :-)
