You can explain all the forces in nature with four dimension of space. Time is not a dimension, only a consequence of the 4th dimension. The fourth dimension is an aether or as some people call it, dark energy and dark matter. These particles take up a varying amount of space which is dependent on mass, the larger the mass, the more space these particles use and hence cause the stretching of space, also known as gravity. Do don't need any other dimension to explain everything.

If i understand correctly?Time is one the the ways,we(our limied tougths)have created to cut the space with its content into slices, to make it possible for us to study the changes and movment of reality,but the truth is that matter is seprate from the absolute space and dosen"t matter how fine we cut it,or it cut and decipate itself,it wld nt disolve in space,most likly there r finer form of energy than dark matter or energy in our universe,if we cant detect them we must not guess like religion

@10thdim I've hypothesized that dark energy and dark matter have mysterious properties similar to those of electrons as observed (or not) through the double-slit experiment. Just as the electrons only acted as a wave when unobserved, I hypothesize that dark matter and dark energy are only unobservable in our observable 4 dimensions because of our inability to OBSERVE dark matter in it's natural state- a higher dimensional plane of existence. Your thoughts, Mr. Bryanton?

but I've heard Gravity 'leaks' through all dimensions as well.

If it does, it would have to have a primary function in the second dimension right?

Well, it can't 'hold' second dimensional objects to the ground, because there is no hight for them to 'fly' away.

If it does ANYTHING, it would be preventing them from 'falling' left to right. If thats true, then the second dimension would be vertical would it not?

General Relativity disagrees with observation. In order to save the theory physicists have invented invisible dark matter, invisible dark energy, invisible dark information, and invisible higher dimensions. Personally I think they're just in the dark about what's going on in the world.

Lots of reasons - one is it's less boring to watch than just my face talking. Also it's helpful as a visual metaphor of thinking about how the reality we see around us could be connected to other patterns. Another reason is that I, like Douglas Hofstadter (author of the brilliant I Am a Strange Loop), am fascinated by video feedback as a way of thinking about the self-reflexive, recursive, fractal nature of reality. Hmmm, how about quantum chromodynamics as a tie-in? Too big a stretch?

They are constructs. Time is not a place and you cannot tell one spatial dimension from another. There is no metric, measure or indicator that can show this.

What "dimensions" are is an anthropic accident of perception that "space" and "time" exist.

I'm a total non-scientist, but I enjoy bending my mind around these concepts, even though I don't quite understand them, if that makes any sense. Even before I heard about string theory and the ten or eleven dimensions that make up our universe, I always had a feeling that there was much more to our universe than meets our senses. I turned one of my non-scientist friends on to these blogs, and now he's also pondering reality in a different way.

"even nothingness was not" - I think this is a poetic way of describing the eternal enfolded symmetry state of absolute zero, which in my system of visualizing reality is the tenth dimension in its observed state, but which many other schools of thought and belief systems have other names for - I have a video blog being posted on November 2nd about the "turtles all the way down" conundrum.

I would like to think of the Dark matter as INFORMATION (95%) and the manifest Universe or Multiverse as PHYSICALITY (5%) ( I would treat only God as REALITY)...the two should be related in the same way as E=Mc2

Talking about nothingness is tricky - if there is an enfolded symmetry state where absolutely everything balances out and adds up to a perfect zero, that zero is full of all the other potentials that could have existed. Is that when "nothingness was not"?

Yes. Starting from that "zero", symmetry is broken to create a reality. Have you read about the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics?
