Brilliant! Motorists that have an accurate concept of how fast a bike travels and aren't taken by surprise to find one crossing in front of them. Several times the motorists even stop BEFORE the bike gets to the crossing, waiting until the bike has safely crossed before moving on! I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven if that happened in my town ;0)
2:35 - BMW X5 being driven with caution and consideration, I was surprised when I saw this - I have been in Britain for too long.
EDIT: No, I am not hating on BMW drivers especially or SUV drivers particularly - I am just saying that in Britain there are certain types of idiots on the roads, and that they tend to favour a BMW or and Audi, especially a big one.
Ondingen vind ik dit. Op dit filmpje is het niet druk, maar in de stad zijn deze rotondes gevaarlijk! Fietsers steken hun hand niet uit en gaan er snel voor langs. Levensgevaarlijk!
Wow, Thanks for sharing this video. These people look so happy to be out riding. Looked like a nice day as well.
Though I do have to wonder, why not one person signaled their turns? Perhaps it's the bicycle unfriendly city I live in, I have learned to signal EVERY turn I make. How I wish we could get even a fraction of what the dutch enjoy here in the states, even if it meant higher taxes.
@harshbarj Well it't this. Official you have to signal your turn. But you learn that you have to see the driver of the car in the eyes.. if you know he or she sees you your fine.. If you are not sure drive slower or faster. But most of the time specially in these kind of new and open roundabouts their is always a contact possibility with the driver.
I'll say, watch the video again and see how the cyclists turn their head very quickly..
@harshbarj In city's you really should signal your turns, tho bicycle's go first most of the time there too. But here's enough space to see if the person stay's on the roundabout or takes a turn, so it's not really necessary. Some people signal every turn, but I only do it on roundabouts in the city, and some corners..
@Gromitdog1 Tho your reaction is 6 months ago, I'll answer it :P
The cycle paths are in one directions yes, the same as the motorized traffic should go.
And yes, cars are mostly automatically liable with a collision with cyclist, even if it isn't their fault. It's the matter of the weak and the strong. How weaker you are, how more protected.
Notice also the single lane roundabout with tight radius forcing cars to slow. Something else UK road engineers don't understand. They build high speed multi lane roundabouts which practically encourage stock-car racing.
Probably due to the "absolute liability" responsibility that's put on auto-drivers. They know the consequences of not being "polite" to cyclists. In addition, it could be your brother/sister-in-law riding that bike.
@jdlvtrn Watching markenlei's videos brings a tear to me eyes, just thinking 'how long will it be before one can see this in the USA, or will it ever be like this'?
The cyclist at 2:39 is almost asking for it to be run over.

@bananensaus yep, maar het is officieel binnen de bebouwde kom van Den Bosch, vandaar ook de voorrang voor fietsers.

You have to give credit to the engineers for the intuitive design that relies more on natural flow than idiotic signs.
Are the cycle paths one direction only?
Are cars automatically liable in any collision with a cyclist?

It would never work in America as long as our overall motoring public lacks the skills to drive.

@twilwel Eventhough the cars have to let the people on bikes go first, they don't always stop.. You still have to watch out..

I can't get used to seeing cars yield to bikes. An alternate universe. In NYC, bikes are 4th class citizens.
