The allies used the vw beetle, whenever able to get their hands on one, because they went places the jeeps couldn`t go. The beetle was easier on fuel, the engine never overheated because it didn`t rely on water to cool it. Again it`s coolant system never froze, unlike the water system of the jeep. Just admit German technology is superior, sure America imprisoned German scientists to steal their ideas apparently

I love the Beetle, they are great cars and I have owned several and even have one now. Unfortunately the history of the Beetle is not quite the Cinderella Story many of us have heard. They ripped off almost every single engineering detail from the Tatra T97. I think the bug is a much better looking car and have no doubt better built. They are so weird that they are cool.

The name "Volkswagen" actually means Peoples Car, the first VW Beetle was designed and built by Ferdinand Porsche sr somewhere in the 1930's and was presented to Adolf Hitler to show the German People that this is a car everybody can afford.
