You said with it on 30hz ,with it off 50hz. Did you mean with just a cover over the hole as in a sealed enclosure? Just seems like a huge hole would be lower vs. a smaller tuned port. thanks.

@ecoots the smaller the port area the lower the tuning but port area is worked out via box volume and power, then the tuning is change by the length of the port. this sort of box is small for 4x 18s but has a large port area just means it will hit hard as nails at a high frequency but not veryy efficent on the lows. in this case he doesnt have to worry about the lows due to running a load of power to each sub

Put it in a closed box, no ports, and you'll have bass that hits hard. It won't be as loud as a ported system, but ported systems don't punch as well as closed because it takes a moment to build up the resonance in the port. When it comes to subs, the design and location of the box is as important, if not more important, than the brand of speakers you go with.
