@HDclanx i just got finished with therapy about 2 weeks ago. i try not to worry about it, but its so* hard to play sports, when you know you want to, & you just cant.
I am 34 and I have Erb's Palsy. I was told that I can not do anything because of the limitations in NJ where I was born is 20 yrs. I am glad to see an informational video on here and I hope you and your practice help lots family get what they deserve!
@haleyyalainee6 That's terrible. Don't focus on what you can't do. Instead, focus on all the great things you CAN do. That makes for a much more enjoyable outlook.
@mrclay22 Jeff, I only practice law in New York so I could not answer your question. Please contact an attorney near you for answers. Good luck to you.
Hi I'm Jeffrey From Philippines and my son has the same condition, me and my wife went to see Orthopedic and we were advised to take our son to undergo EMG NCV study. By the way my son's condition was he can move his fingers hands but he can't move his whole arm. Is it going to be ok? Your video brings joy to our heart and Thank you for the video... Hope you can help us and other people with same condition.
Hi Jeffrey, since I'm not a doctor, I can't answer your question. Also, since I only practice law in New York, I can only tell you what happens here in NY when there's an erbs palsy case.
hi my name is bryce jefferson i was born with erbs pulsy i've had numerous surgerys and mine has gotten alot better and in fact the only thing wrong is the way i hold it and its not that noticeable i just keep stretching it out and wear a splint.
Hi Bryce. I'm glad to hear that your injury is not that significant. Other children with this injury are not so fortunate. They may have no use of their arm and it just hangs there limp. Others have some limited use. Everyone is different. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and leave your comment.
Im 17 and from England I was just wondering if anyone knew what the long term effects were i get back pain and sharp pains in my shoulder will these get worse over time?
For your consideration, you may wish to adjunct your current care with chiropractic treatments. One theory of chiropractic indicates that a fixated vertebrae reduces the amount of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) which works to inhibit chemicals such as substance-P and norephinephrine which may tend to exacerbate unfavorable conditions.
As you know, I am a lawyer who handles cases of medical carelessness. To answer your question about whether you are a candidate for surgery, you need to consult with a surgeon who has helped other patients with similar problems. Only after a thorough physical exam and consultation would you get an educated answer to your intelligent question.
Hi lawmed1! im 11 and i have erbs palsy. My left arm got stuck so the doctor pulled my arm and messed up my nerves in my shoulder. i was a 10 pound baby... do you have any ideas of good exercise for my arm? because i took pt when i was linving in nyc( i moved) But tht was so long ago. reply please;) and bye!
Hi Purple Rox- thanks for your inquiry. I'm sorry to learn about your erbs palsy. Although I know a lot about this condition and how it comes about, I am only a medical malpractice attorney. I am not a physician or a physical therapist.
I would strongly suggest asking your pediatrician to recommend exercises and also a physical therapist who might be able to help you. I wish you the best of health in the future. Good luck to you.
That's a good question. The best person to ask is your pediatric neurologist and your pediatrician. Erbs palsy can be temporary. On the other hand it can also be permanent depending upon the extent of damage to the nerve at the time of delivery.
my daughter was born @ 26 weeks, through NVD but breech. forceps and episiotomy had been administered but she was still stuck. i guess the medical officers just pulled her out with a great force that resulted my daughter's right arm to be limp.
only on her 2nd week of life did they realise that my daughter had Erb's Palsy. ever since that she has been going for physiotherapy till now. she has gross motor delay and now only begun to sit at 15 months @ 12 months corrected. is it due to erbs?
Im turning 19 in august and ive had erbs palsy all my life. Apparently my family could have but chose not to file a claim. It does to a large extent, limit my activities and at times a sharp pain occurs around my shoulder area.
Thanks for your kind words. Now that I am fifteen, I am supposed to look more into surgery. I am afraid of needles from all of those tests that I went through as a child. I need to start therapy again, but I don't really know any exercises that are good for my arm now that it has grown bigger than when it was when I had therapy. Do you have any suggestions? Please comment if you do. Thanks.
It hurts all the time, but they think that I'm lazy and just want to get special treatment, but its not like I asked for this or take advantage of the I.E.P. The doctor is obviously at fault and only believed in natural birth and I was a 10 lbs. baby, so I of course got stuck and both me and my mom nearly died. After I was born, the nurse said that it was just a pinched nerve and would be okay in two weeks. I don't want to sound greedy, but I am ready to be understood.
I was born, in Texas, with erb's palsy in my left arm. I have gone through so many horrible things, with all of the needle tests, the doctors measuring the arm, the pain, and all of the people being mean to me about it. I am 15 and will turn 16 in 7 days. The teachers, nurses, and students at every school I have gone to don't care and don't let me sit/work how I need to even though I have had an I.E.P and a 504 my whole life.
but.. i have a wonderfull live.. and I´m able to do almost anything (99,999%) without using my left arm. I live my life so normal, that sometimes people just don´t see my arm as some kind of deficience.
I'm 17 and have suffered from Erbs Palsy all my life, sometimes it does limit my movement. I'm a dancer hoping to go to a dance university. Sometimes it's annoying not being able to do all the movements, it becomes frustrating. I feel the dancing is a source of physio for my arm. People occassionly notice my arm because of the scars i have from corrective surgery and the fact one is longer than the other.
my daughter had shoulder dystocia at birth.she now has erbs palsy and very little movement in her right arm. i should have had a c-section-the doc admits this.its devastating and unnessary
im from ireland but thanks anyway.i asked for legal advice but its not a well known injury here and people are reluctant to go against the doctors as they have alot of people to agree with anything they say about what happened
I'm a 20year old woman and I've suffered this injury at birth and i live with it everyday. It's not that bad except I'm limited to some daily tasks. My left arm is shorter than my right arm and i cannot straighten it fully either. my arm is not that noticeable unless a person has known me for a while or if some nosy person is watching my every move, but with erbs palsy I play the piano and basketball. Even though i had to teach myself to play in my own way.
I'm glad to hear that you can do your daily activities. There are some children with erbs palsy that cannot, and literally have a useless arm as a result of the injury they suffered at birth.
My 5yr old son has this. Hes got about 60% of movement of his arm and thats it. His arm is also smaller than the other. I can't sleep sometimes thinking of what he'll have to go through in his life.
I wish someone had told us about this.
I wish I knew this back then.
I wish the Dr woulded called a C section knowing it was a big baby and a first baby.
I'm sorry to hear about your son. I made this video for the purpose of informing people about what Erbs palsy is and how it can occur.
I am told by obstetricians that even if a c-section is done, there is still the possibility (although much smaller) that a child can wind up with an erbs palsy. Good luck to you and your family.
My son was injured by the doctor, the thing about NEVER NEVER applying pressure to the top of the abdomen, I had 2 nurses pushing on my belly with all their might, one on my pubic bone, and one right below my ribcage on the top of my belly. My son just had his first surgery and is 6 months old.
Also, the "Gaskin Maneuver" is never mentioned. I encourage you to research this quick maneuver that very often will allow a Shoulder Dystocia baby to become unstuck. Midwives all over, as well as an increasing number of doctors, use this easy maneuver with shoulder dystocia where they simply get the Mother to turn over onto her hands and knees. This widens the pelvis significantly, and uses gravity to assist the baby, it is quite often enough to allow the shoulders to become free.
Good video...except a few things "to prevent unnatural tearing" I literally laughed out loud at that!! Hmmm, wouldn't a surgical cut be a little more "unnatural" than a tear that happens during a normal, natural birth??? It has been proven that a NATURAL tear heals much faster and much better than an UNNATURAL episiotomy.
