  • Remarkable

  • That's one helluva car wash....

  • thanks so much for this vid. been going to dawlish since 1998. only place we ever go on holiday thankls for uploading :)

  • Awesome. THIS is why i am desperate to live by the sea and why we love Dawlish so much!

  • Is that normally a beach?

  • Absolutely brilliant video, it felt like I was there

  • The Voyager is going through at a snails pace, yet the good old 125 powers on through - waves, pah!

    Intercity 125s > Chuck Norris

  • i used to run the oldmill tea room in dawlish. i wish my parents had never sold it. great vid. thanks.

  • I've seen Malta like this in the winter along the east coast.

  • I do not wish to sit on that train anyway...must be chock

  • i bet every1 on the trains shitted themselves

  • Lets hope the Windows on the HST were closed, Splash!

  • Great video! Hope the windows were shut on that FGW HST! :O

  • Isn't this very bad for the railway and the train itself? I mean due to rust and corrosion? Outstanding video, nice afternoon light and quality!

  • Great Video, 5 Stars! and Merry Christmas :)

  • Brave little train does his job

  • "Virgin trains would like to apologise for the late running of this service. This is due to waves on the line"

  • My family had a beach hut at Coryton Cove,Dawlish and that was washed away in a similar storm a few years previous.

    This video brings back memories.

  • WHERE IS THIS?

  • @TJRHINO29 Dawlish is in Devon, in England.

  • Oakhampton to Bere Alston railway needs reopening as a matter of urgency as a secondary route to cornwall!

  • This is exactly why I'll never live near the ocean. Yikes! :O

  • That was absolutely fan-bloody-tastic. We definately need more of this.

  • good footage

  • that voyager got pwnd

  • i've been in Dawlish, and i've been on the sea wall!!

Fortunately the waves were not so high...

  • Must be fun to be on that one then ^_^

  • Great footage

  • @racedemon89 "featured in "used bike guide""

oh well that must mean its awesome xD

  • @racedemon89 Because they were born there?

  • can still move, thing is most people that live in dawlish dont want to, check out the carnival vids

  • i live in dawlish woop woop!

  • Did it wash the trains then??

  • I live in Dawlish. It's not that unusual for the sea to be like this. Rarely does much damage though it does make for an interesting ride on the train!

  • @drevista in the summer nice weather i asume its a great ride lol

  • lucky assed driver

  • I was there this summer!.. the weather was nice and i even saw a pice of the red arrows on our last day there, and the vulcan bomber of course:þ miss it

  • smart place to have a railway... not.

  • i think it is time to resort back to the in land line, they are thinking at the moment about it.

  • Why in the Hell would people be living so close to these Violent waters. One Tsunami wave would destroy all those homes.

  • We encountered some pretty bad waves at Dawlish on our way back to Plymouth from Bristol Parkway on Tuesday, the carriage we were in on the HST got drenched. Those waves make one hell of a thud on the windows when they hit !!!

  • GO to school on that line, once the train engine got flooded by waves (and so did the seating area!) and we were told we may have to evacuate! Dawlish has seen alot worse then that but great video! :D

  • "Our next station stop is Dawlish. Please ensure you have all your belongings with you. If that doesn't include a brolly we suggest you stay on board".

  • i used too live in dawlish, ive seen worse but its still good ***** for me

  • what a video! 5***** + fav was there in 2007 of course the weather was sunny but what a sensational place that tide was high thats a huge drop usualy so well captured there top stuff!

  • Knockout vid. I'll never get tired of that stretch of line..fair weather or foul

  • great video mate

  • i wouldn't be doing heads out on that HST lol great vid 5*

  • sure was stormy i've been across that line when the seas have been like that

  • Looks very similar to the storm or winter blizzard waves kicked-up on Lakes Superior and Ontario etc. Good video here. There are a large number of videos of storms on the Cornish and Suusex coasts, and on the Great Lakes. Search for 'Big Ass Waves', 'Lake Superior Storm', 'Lake Superior Winter Storm',

Unsalted Outtake #3 - Whitefish Point Inspiration', 'Lake Ontario Wind Storm', etc. You will enjoy them. Thanx for the video.

  • Very impressive video and I dare say, not the worst conditions this railway copes with. I.K.B was some engineer!

  • Lovely video, 5*

  • splashing the trains XD

  • That's one awesome video! Thanks for sharing!!

  • this is a great holiday place!

  • at the first bit of video i was there just 5 days ago fishing :) Glad it wasent that bad when i was there

  • GREAT video - outstanding!! 5* and favourited!

  • Thanks!

  • what camera do you use?

  • Sony DCR-SR32 Handycam. It saves to a built in hard drive so you get a good few hours of recording time without having to change tapes. The image quality is fairly poor but it does for Youtube!

  • thanks mate

  • More please!!

  • Hi, when I holidayed in Exeter as a kid, my Dad and I were looking out the door window of a mark II coach coming down here. We got soaked - it was so funny. Thanx. You've made a 39 old lady very pleased and brought back great memories. It's in my favourites. Please watch my "Tribute To The SouthWest". Let me know what you think.

  • imagine having your head out the window of a HST through that! phew i would love it!

  • awesome video! very original. im subscribing :-D

  • thats the best dawlish video ive ever seen

  • Thank you - could have done with a tripod, but it would probably have blown over in the wind...

  • Excellent Video! Hope the 142/HST/159 Didn't have any windows open!

  • Thanks! If they did, I'm sure they shut them pretty quick... the 142s do tend to leak around the gangway connection though!

  • good video - nice to see the area in a different state than the usual portrayal.

  • Thanks! Yes, it's not quite the idyllic summer scene you usually see - just as much fun though!

  • WOW!!! Now that's what I call a train wash!!....mmmm I bet that sea water can't be doing the trains much good.Didn't a Voyager once fail here because of the stormy sea conditions??

Any way thank you for sharing this with us all.Great video.Cheers

  • Thanks! Yes, when they were first introduced, the Voyagers had a lot of trouble with water ingress into the roof-mounted electrical equipment, and several of them ended up stranded along the wall at various times. Not so bad if a Thunderbird 57 is available at Exeter or Plymouth, but on at least one occasion the passengers had to de-train and walk along the line to safety, which can't have been much fun...
