Fantastic work, as always! I'm an enormous fan of your videos, though my own painting skills are still very much a work in progress ^^;; My girlfriend has recently gotten interested in Warhammer Fantasy, and she decided on High Elves as her first army. I immediately sent her a link to this video to help inspire her ^_^
@Tokekswt not sure what you mean. you sometimes water down colours to get them to spread more evenly on a larger surface. but generally you wanna hve a dry brush. when you have water on youre brush and you are painting your model what will happen is the paint will go into the cracks and it will look uneven.
inks are used intentionally to make the cracks darker like she does at 4:30.
painting is hard at first. to get better i recommend buying the GW book "how to paint citadel minatures"
This video is fantastic. I love how you show exactly how to do washes and highlights and blending. It's hard to learn how to do that stuff from reading techniques, much easier to just see it done. Can you do a tutorial of the high elf arch Mage that's in the island of blood set?
@TheNewshorts yes/no most of normal spray paints are much to thick, and destroy details. i suggest to stick with spray primer that is designed to prime models.
GirlPainting, If I use Liche purple instead of blue, would that look good? Also to highlight should I add some white to the mixture or just use another purple like Hormogaunt Purple?
I don't like the effect I get from washes. I may be using them wrong, but i don't know. But anyway, I like how you use basic techniques and make them look stunning! great work!!
@GirlPainting O ok hehe :D I'm currently painting up a High Elves army and I'm currently doing White undercoat, Bolt Gun, Mith, Badab Black wash over it but it is coming out way to dark. D: is it better just to undercoat it black instead of white or what? If you could respond it would make my day :D
@In0Sc0p3Y0u 2 batalions and 2 or 3 blood isand sets (make sure that you know a skaven player ;) ) and you will have a very big army (near 4000 points)
Thank you for showing how to make the sword look like a real metal sword rather than something spray painted silver. Looks great and I will try it on my High Elves!
@ajpieri Mate when you say water down. Are you saying like 4 blobs of water for a bit of paint or are you asking does you always adds water to her paints? Well yes of course she does. You want to add enough water to the paint so when you put your brush through the paint there are no streeks so it is nice and smooth. Hope this helped answer your question :D
This is great! I'm new to this and this helped a lot. I just had a few comments/questions: What did you do to the gold at the end to make it extra shinny? You said something about a wash. If so, was it the same wash as before?
Also, when you take the drop of black in 11:49 and water it down, how did you do that?
Just subscribed. Good job but a little dark for a High Elf IMO. Questions; How long have you been painting and is that your actual voice? No offence meant but I'm reminded of Mrs Doubtfire, the Robin Williams movie. Well anyways, thumbs up
you can tell me what is the name of the metallic paint that you used in armor? I could not understand what you said in the video. congratulations on your work, love it
@SatansMullet dude, i seriously thought it was a funny voice in the beginning. afterwards it turned out it wasnt, and im sorry for that. and yes, she paints amazingly!

amazing Alexandra, Can you do a video where you do an example of a sword with silver hilt and blue Blade please? I need help with my Librarian's force weapon, because I don't want it to look like evey other Power Weapon in my Army
Yeah, this one is awesome, i wanna buy Island of Blood so the video helps me a lot. And this is aslo why I absolutely love the hobby. There are so many ways of how to paint your minis. Could you please do Skaven too? I'm not sure about color for their skin.
ahhhh .. tum tee tum. - that always brings a smile to my face. Back to mr elf and wowza that sepia wash really makes the gold pop. I was surprised you only highlighted the mail scales only once, and only a slight fraction. I thought you might have undercoated boltgun, wash with badab, then highlight 1 - chainmail, and final highlight 2 - mithril. I guessed wrong, I do like trying to guess what you'll do. Blending seemed odd when wet but always looks better afterwards, look forward to pt 2.
Alexandra you really make this look so easy, I want to get into this hobby but then I look at the real size of my D&D miniatures and realize just how tiny these things are to work on and think I’ll never have the brush control to be any good.
My question is you looking through any kind of magnifying device when you’re painting?
@GirlPainting That's amazing how well you do without using a magnifying device, unfortunately, my eyes are getting to the point that I have to use some kind of magnifier. As always, fantastic paint job!
one word.....wow....he looks sooooo much better than mine and i was really proud of them....I just can't believe you would take the time to paint every one of those scales individually......i just drbrushed mine......seriously really reall good thx so much for showing
Have you ever tried blending using Golden OPEN fluid medium? It's like a retarder that you can mix with your paints, but a newer formula. Aside from the fluid medium, OPEN acrylic paints are slow-drying paints midway between fluid and heavy-body acrylics in thickness, and you can do some interesting wet blending with them. I've never tried blending metallics, but they make several metallic ("iridescent") OPEN paints, and you could probably figure out some pretty good techniques with them.
Thank you for this recent video, your tutorials are excellent and really help to demystify many of the techniques that seem intimidating about miniatures painting. I particularly enjoyed the demonstration of wet blended metallics, I have a mini to paint at the moment with a large sword and I'm looking forward to trying this technique out myself. Thanks again!
Fantastic true metallic video. It's really amazing the difference between the silver base and the blended metallic elements. It's amazing how easy it looks to make a model really pop. Beautiful work!
Sweet paint job. I was never really a big fan of your cork bases though due to how ridiuclously tall they end up being sometimes. Why not uhm... take the cork, round it off, and make that the base itself versus putting it on the plastic base? It could be an idea.
awesome!!!! I'm painting the old ones, I think that the cork is a good idea, but in a singular miniature or in a 40k miniature, however I find it strange in a regiment . could you show the result of puting cork in a whole regiment? Thanks :D
Its very soothing to watch you paint. I'm really surprised that you found a GW Citadel brush that has a nice point. I quit using them because I always had trouble keeping the point on them from curling.
