  • Great vid! It helped me immensely. Thanks for sharing.

  • hey just a question when you painted the face with watered down tallarn flesh, how watered down was it 10:1 mix or something?

  • @Lonmnus1234 I'm assuming it's 2:1 water

  • Fantastic work, as always! I'm an enormous fan of your videos, though my own painting skills are still very much a work in progress ^^;; My girlfriend has recently gotten interested in Warhammer Fantasy, and she decided on High Elves as her first army. I immediately sent her a link to this video to help inspire her ^_^

  • You are amazing !!!

  • Awesome super helpful video

  • paint sword masters take long times???

  • your voice is wiered

  • I like this technique, thx!

  • Hey i'm still new to painting minis, so u wet ur brush to fade the colour? thanks

  • @Tokekswt not sure what you mean. you sometimes water down colours to get them to spread more evenly on a larger surface. but generally you wanna hve a dry brush. when you have water on youre brush and you are painting your model what will happen is the paint will go into the cracks and it will look uneven.

inks are used intentionally to make the cracks darker like she does at 4:30.

painting is hard at first. to get better i recommend buying the GW book "how to paint citadel minatures"

  • okay thanks

  • Okay thanks for the input. May I ask why grey?

  • @ttspiritblade because it is the most universal primer, and almost every colour is easy to aply to it.

  • i bought a regiment of dragon princes. Should I prime them white or black?

  • @ttspiritblade i would prime them grey ;-)

  • What a lovely gentle natured guide, but the voice does make me giggle.

  • This video is fantastic. I love how you show exactly how to do washes and highlights and blending. It's hard to learn how to do that stuff from reading techniques, much easier to just see it done. Can you do a tutorial of the high elf arch Mage that's in the island of blood set?

  • I honestly love your videos, but your voice is very annoying.

  • what colors did you use? i didn't get the shades for the 50/50 blue and grey you used for the blue undercoat.

  • how you make bright the color i use chainmail and it doesn't shine

  • Can I use other black spray as undercoat from the market? (not specific for models)

  • @TheNewshorts yes/no most of normal spray paints are much to thick, and destroy details. i suggest to stick with spray primer that is designed to prime models.

  • @GirlPainting

Thank you, I tried a spray and it worked just like the citadel spray paint. So I know what to do now, giving my elves a black undercoat :D

  • GirlPainting, If I use Liche purple instead of blue, would that look good? Also to highlight should I add some white to the mixture or just use another purple like Hormogaunt Purple?

  • I don't like the effect I get from washes. I may be using them wrong, but i don't know. But anyway, I like how you use basic techniques and make them look stunning! great work!!

  • how that is the best High Elf i have EVER seen in my life, GREAT JOB!

  • Great Job :D

  • Hehe 7:07 to about 7:13 you sound so mothering :D <3 with the encouragement ♥♥

  • Girlpainting, what is the best starting high elf pack?

  • @In0Sc0p3Y0u i would say the starter set blood island

  • @GirlPainting thanks very much, how much would that cost?

  • @In0Sc0p3Y0u on the gw homepage you can see the prizes for all gw products.

  • @GirlPainting Quick question love. For the blue. If you are going to be making it brighter, why not just use Enchanted Blue?

  • @kornickronic the colours i use are not carved in stone ;-)

  • @GirlPainting O ok hehe :D I'm currently painting up a High Elves army and I'm currently doing White undercoat, Bolt Gun, Mith, Badab Black wash over it but it is coming out way to dark. D: is it better just to undercoat it black instead of white or what? If you could respond it would make my day :D

  • @kornickronic If it is coming out to dark, try to use a bit less of Badab black?

Im only a beginner painter so i'm not sure.

  • @In0Sc0p3Y0u 2 batalions and 2 or 3 blood isand sets (make sure that you know a skaven player ;) ) and you will have a very big army (near 4000 points)

  • Thank you for showing how to make the sword look like a real metal sword rather than something spray painted silver. Looks great and I will try it on my High Elves!

  • @GirlPainting Excuses me. But for the armour did you just do Bolt > Mith > Badab black wash? <3

  • this is great! very helful! i wish i had hands as still as yours :)

  • can u use elf flesh instead of the other skin colour? love ur vid :D

  • Do you water down your paint?

  • @ajpieri Mate when you say water down. Are you saying like 4 blobs of water for a bit of paint or are you asking does you always adds water to her paints? Well yes of course she does. You want to add enough water to the paint so when you put your brush through the paint there are no streeks so it is nice and smooth. Hope this helped answer your question :D

  • This is great! I'm new to this and this helped a lot. I just had a few comments/questions: What did you do to the gold at the end to make it extra shinny? You said something about a wash. If so, was it the same wash as before?

Also, when you take the drop of black in 11:49 and water it down, how did you do that?

  • @hacimthegreat 1.: gryphone sepia wash 2.: water the black down at least 2 to 1 if not more

  • i'm new to painting with minitaures... but this gets me started... thanks for showing all these tutorials!

  • Just subscribed. Good job but a little dark for a High Elf IMO. Questions; How long have you been painting and is that your actual voice? No offence meant but I'm reminded of Mrs Doubtfire, the Robin Williams movie. Well anyways, thumbs up

  • 2 people think that they paint better than Alexandra

  • is it important to use mithril silver

  • Finaly something that explains wahes to me!

  • you can tell me what is the name of the metallic paint that you used in armor? I could not understand what you said in the video. congratulations on your work, love it

  • @febarletta boltgun metal and mithril silver

  • Why dont you make a video for your german fans? You live in germany, cant you talk the language? I would like a video of you in german ;)

  • @Phraates90 because from my over 4500 subbs only about 250 are germans. i simpley do the videos for the hole world.

    LG Phraates!

  • Did you dry brush the boltgun metal at the start or just paint it straight on?

  • nice paint, or AWESOME PAINT!!!!!!!

Do you play with High elves????

  • you are kidding me right? you are a guy talking in a weird voice for fun right? o.O\

  • @wubs23 Dude, not cool. dont make fun of somebodies voice. regardless SHE paints AMAZINGLY

  • @SatansMullet dude, i seriously thought it was a funny voice in the beginning. afterwards it turned out it wasnt, and im sorry for that. and yes, she paints amazingly!

  • Hello great tutorial can't wait til you do one for Skaven :D

  • where can I buy these guys?

  • @carversoftball games workshop you should be able to find it in your local mall or shopping centre if not go on the internet and type in games workshop or warhammer it will show you were all the shops are in the world if go through the right links on the website =) hope this helped

  • Endlich mal ein Tutorial auf Youtube mit dem man wirklich was anfangen kann! Vielen Dank!

  • I find this totorial are very good i play high elves and i beginning with this hobby your vids are very great very work :)

  • what up with your voice

  • I'm just getting into painting Warhammer figures. What is the purpose of doing the wash step?

  • @EmperorHilo creating shadows

  • The Vid made me smile :) Great tutorial! Also greats tipps for people just starting the hobby.

  • Hi, can you give me a list of the paints and washes you use for these models please, I tried to keep up with a pad and pen but got a little lost! Thanks

  • Thanx a mil Alexandra, you dun know how much this helps....

  • Can you make your own wash??? What is the ratio if so..

  • @carversoftball Check out awesomepaintjob channel on making your own washes... Les is awesome.... of cos Alexandra is awesome as well...

  • your awesome

  • wgcwc2010subbed

  • Awesome painting :) really inspiring me to paint my High Elves :)

Will you paint more High Elves-modells (like High Elf Prince on Griffon, High Elf Mage or Ellyrian Reavers)?

Cant wait for the next part! :D You're awesome :D

  • amazing Alexandra, Can you do a video where you do an example of a sword with silver hilt and blue Blade please? I need help with my Librarian's force weapon, because I don't want it to look like evey other Power Weapon in my Army

  • Another great video. Wonderful job on the high elf. How long did this actually take to paint.

  • It is great to see some more fantasy models being painted. They require many different techniques than the 40k stuff.

  • Yeah, this one is awesome, i wanna buy Island of Blood so the video helps me a lot. And this is aslo why I absolutely love the hobby. There are so many ways of how to paint your minis. Could you please do Skaven too? I'm not sure about color for their skin.

  • my painting standard was, to be quite honest - crap. now, thanks to you, the standard is being raised with each mini that i paint. thanks!

  • ahhhh .. tum tee tum. - that always brings a smile to my face. Back to mr elf and wowza that sepia wash really makes the gold pop. I was surprised you only highlighted the mail scales only once, and only a slight fraction. I thought you might have undercoated boltgun, wash with badab, then highlight 1 - chainmail, and final highlight 2 - mithril. I guessed wrong, I do like trying to guess what you'll do. Blending seemed odd when wet but always looks better afterwards, look forward to pt 2.

  • Watching you paint is always so relaxing.

Your voice reminds me a bit like Julia Child for some reason.

  • loved this video. you explain your techniques so well even the beginer can learn how to apply them

  • Alexandra you really make this look so easy, I want to get into this hobby but then I look at the real size of my D&D miniatures and realize just how tiny these things are to work on and think I’ll never have the brush control to be any good.

My question is you looking through any kind of magnifying device when you’re painting?

  • @logun24x7 no, i don´t use magnifying devices

  • @GirlPainting That’s incredible you have an amazing talent, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us.

  • @GirlPainting That's amazing how well you do without using a magnifying device, unfortunately, my eyes are getting to the point that I have to use some kind of magnifier. As always, fantastic paint job!

  • i've always wodered whats with the coughing?

  • @TheFirraveusCarron smoke a lot and you´ll get that two ;-P

  • @GirlPainting Yeah, I was wondering that, too. So it's a smoking thing, okay.

  • That sepia wash makes a massive difference to the gold!

  • Friggin´ wonderful, Alexandra!

  • one word.....wow....he looks sooooo much better than mine and i was really proud of them....I just can't believe you would take the time to paint every one of those scales individually......i just drbrushed mine......seriously really reall good thx so much for showing

  • Another good video-tutorial, Alexandra. May be in the future, but can you create a tutorial some like "how to fix paint mistakes"?

  • Have you ever tried blending using Golden OPEN fluid medium? It's like a retarder that you can mix with your paints, but a newer formula. Aside from the fluid medium, OPEN acrylic paints are slow-drying paints midway between fluid and heavy-body acrylics in thickness, and you can do some interesting wet blending with them. I've never tried blending metallics, but they make several metallic ("iridescent") OPEN paints, and you could probably figure out some pretty good techniques with them.

  • Great video! I was a little unsure about the metallic blending at first, but when I saw the way it came out, I was convinced. It looks great!

  • Wonderful as always. Thanks for the tips re gold. That technique is going to be very helpful with my Ork!

  • Thank you for this recent video, your tutorials are excellent and really help to demystify many of the techniques that seem intimidating about miniatures painting. I particularly enjoyed the demonstration of wet blended metallics, I have a mini to paint at the moment with a large sword and I'm looking forward to trying this technique out myself. Thanks again!

  • Fantastic true metallic video. It's really amazing the difference between the silver base and the blended metallic elements. It's amazing how easy it looks to make a model really pop. Beautiful work!

  • thanks for the blending tips Alexrandra,, very cool vid be on the watch of paet two this figs looks to be sweet ;)

  • Sweet paint job. I was never really a big fan of your cork bases though due to how ridiuclously tall they end up being sometimes. Why not uhm... take the cork, round it off, and make that the base itself versus putting it on the plastic base? It could be an idea.

  • Another great tutorial Alexandra! :) It's coming out really nice!

  • awesome!!!! I'm painting the old ones, I think that the cork is a good idea, but in a singular miniature or in a 40k miniature, however I find it strange in a regiment . could you show the result of puting cork in a whole regiment? Thanks :D

  • Very nice... the metal came out amazing 5/5

  • Its very soothing to watch you paint. I'm really surprised that you found a GW Citadel brush that has a nice point. I quit using them because I always had trouble keeping the point on them from curling. I use either Dick Blick Studio sable brushes or Windsor and Newton Artist's Watercolor sable brushes for painting and Army Painter Wargamer Regiment Brushes for dry brushing. How do you clean your brushes? I use Christopher Davidson's (AG Productions) technique with the master's brush soap.

  • super videos!

    klasse Beschreibung

  • Great tutorial as always from you . thanks

  • "Don't fear the paints."

What if you're using Reaper paints, and not Citadel Colour? :p

As always, by far one of the best painting tutorials I've seen.

  • @Vehementi then my frind, you should be afraid ^^ ;-)

  • Yes, I do like this video.

  • Ja echt cool das Gesicht finde ich schon schwierig

  • Very nice! Can't wait for part 2 : ]

  • I've never seen your True Metallic Metal technique anywhere else before. Very nice!

  • Excallent vid...as you regularly do. :-) Keep them coming!!

  • Great technic for making the shadow on the armor and sword! Thanks again!

  • Very god video Alexandra :-) I am so happy you did a high elf, your painting of the armor is very good :-)

  • I'm glad to see nonmetallic metal and true metallic metal on something other than swords. On swords the concept is easy to grasp, there is a clear divide, but on shields and armor it is not so clear cut. Thank you. Can you post some still photos at the end of your last video please?

  • @sgtbuckwheat no, i cant take good pictures, because i don´t have the equipment to make good enough ones.

  • Thanks for the upload! Cheers from Brasil!!

  • i would love to see some island of blood skaven next

  • Wenn du Kommentare so magst :D

  • i hope you like this comment Alexandra

  • I am learning so much from your videos and will soon be painting my very first model, hopefully I can do your tutorials justice! lol

  • Thanks for clearing up about the primer. Your videos have been for me both educational and entertaining.

  • Great tutorial as always!! I ecpecially like how you did the "true metallic metal" techniqe =D
