Not to mention NewsEdge was the final news theme under Smith Broadcasting from 1996 until Smith sold it to Hearst in August 1998. Here the station was already sold to Hearst, but they were still using this opening from the Smith era graphics. The Hearst 1st era graphics did not debut here until September, 1999. Also around this time Charlie Van Dyke was still the announcer, but in January 1999, Bill Ratner took over the duties and is the current KSBW announcer.
