hi Mayen its nice to see how wonderful artist that kindly share the full detail i always wanted to learn how to bake and create my own design just like me as a beginner it will take a lot of effort but i would like to say thank you for given me a boost of idea
Hello Mayen! I really love your cake! Can I asked a favor? can you teach me how to make it step by step? It's my 1st time to make, I want it for the 1st birthday of my baby. Her birthday will be on dec 12. I hope you could help me. If you will, just e-mail me at chied25@yahoo.com.Thanks a lot Mayen. Love your cake soooo much!
I love your cake it look really cute. What cake pans did you use for each layer? What size board did you use for the base? My friend asked me to make this cake for his baby 1st birthday so I don't want to mess this up. Any help would be great. Thanks!!!
i used to buy satin ice ( brand ) and i only used that before. now i know how to make my own marshmallow fondant and it saves me a ton of money doing so. so unless it's red, black or brown ( very hard colors to make at home )- i make mm fondant instead
Bee-autiful cake, Mayen! Would you mind if I can ask for your gumpaste recipe? How did you the eyes of the bees? And lastly, what tool did you use for the letters on the cake board?Thank you!
Thank you, Mayen, for your quick response. One more question from me: When you put the buttercream on the outside of the honeycomb, where did you do this? Did you do it directly on your decorated cake board or somewhere else and then transferred it to your cakeboard?
I put the buttercream somewhere else-- and after covering it with fondant and all has been trimmed on the sides--only then will i transfer on a fondant covered cakeboard. Any smear or droplet on the fondant cakeboard may leave marks -- so i want it clean and crisp-- hope that helps :)
Hello, Mayen! Could you please tell me how you got the honeycomb shape from your three cake layers? Did you create it with buttercream first and then lay fondant? Or did you carve the cake layers a bit rounder? Cakes are in the oven now, so I would appreciate any help! Thank you!
Hi Mayen hope you doing reaaly good I really love all your tutorials and I don't get tire of watching it over and over again in fact I promise you every time I turn on the computer I have to see if you have done something new. I have a Question what is the name of the flower cutter and where over the intenet can I get it, Thanks
thanks! these flower cutter are from wilton... you can get it from their site or from local craft stores. it comes in s pack of three diff sizes and are called daisy cutters
I love your other bumble bee cake but I have to say that i love this even more. It has so much charm to it. I love the bumble bees, good thing you posted a bumble bee tutorial.
By the way, does the petals tend to be really sharp? When I make my gumpaste decorations for my gingerbread house, I use gum-tex mixed with glucose and powdered sugar. It tends to be really hard. With the stuff that you use, does it dry out really hard? Do you think it can damage the throat if swallowed?
Hi Mayen,I really enjoy your tutorials as they are clear and easy to follow.I'm new to cake decorating and keen to have a go.Your cakes and fondant characters are gorgeous. My 1st project will be the bumble bee cake as the bees look easy to make. Were they simple sponge cakes you used to build up the layers? How long will the finished cake keep for - days? How long in advance can you make it? I appreciate your time in answering my questions and look forward to seeing more of your creations soon.
Quick question.... how do you get the shape of the behive with the cakes? Are you using round cake pans?? What kind of pans are you using to get the rounded effect of the behive in each layer.
Many thanks for any help you can give me, as I would LOVE to try this cake!
sorry for not being able to respond sooner- i used regular pans for this but i carved out the sides. after putting buttercream on the cake, the sides will have a smoother slope to it, you do not need to buy rounded edge pans for this.
Hi Lindsay, This cake is made up of three layers of cake. You can present it 2 ways i guess-- either place filling in between the three carved layers, or have a cake board in between the cake layers ( this just eases the cutting process) .either way, you will coat the whole thing with buttercream and use only one layer of fondant to cover it .
The base is store bought. a local craft store like michaels, joanns, ac moore etc has it.
let me know if you need anything ok?love to see u make it!
Hi Mayen, I absolutely LOVE this cake! Can you please send me the recipe you use for the home-made fondant to cover the cake boards? What material is the cake board made out of? Do you make your own cake boards? OMG! I have so many questions for you! Love your cakes and your artistic abilities! :)
Hi Mayen...this looks lovelly...I was wondering were did u get those large letters? I just got the smaller ones, but I would like to get some of the larger ones! THanks again!

Hi Mayen,
I've been lurking on your site for ages and have now worked up the nerve to make a post!
Actually, I'd like to ask you a question about this bee cake...
...how do you make the base for it? Is it 3 seperate cakes staked one upon the other?
I hope you can help because I'd really love to try and make this cake too :-D

Hi Mayen,
And thanks soooo much for your help...
Not sure I'd have the nerve to make it though because I have NEVER made a stacked cake before, LOL.
Perhaps it's a little to advanced for me right now...
I really enjoy your work though and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next :-D
Thanks again xx
