It's weird, but german shepherds seem to calm animals. My girlfriend's GS had never seen horses or cows and a friend's english bull terrier got kicked by horses so we were scared she would get kicked too, but she walked into the corral pen like she was born there and just walked amongst them and didn't make a peep and they weren't concerned in the least...soon they were sniffing each other face to face...weirdest thing because she will go after almost any other dog like a sworn enemy.
Dog: "yes, I'm in charge. I run shit up in this bitch."
Cow: " Now, both you and I and the rest of these heifers know that you don't run shit – in here or out there - You punk!"
Dog: " WTF you just said to me, biaaatch?!.... I'm gonna fuck you up fast! Even though they are more violent than we are, give thanks that they're humans around biaaatch. For now, I’m out of this biaatch."
Very beautiful and smart dogs! Our 11 year old German Shepherd has helped my husband round up cattle all of his life just by natural instinct. We now have two 1 year old blue heelers to help since he is slowing down a bit. They are amazing and very loyal dogs as well as the blue heelers.
Murphy has never had any training, as you say its a natural instinct with them. Murphy comes from a long line of show dogs but he so enjoys time with cows, swimming and chasing things that to simply be groomed and paraded would bore him to tears. My previous GSD behaved in exactly the same way with cows, he would groom them too, dealing with those fly bites they could'nt get to, and in return they would groom him.....he used to come home soaked! Thank you for posting such a lovely comment
To all you 'Think you know it all's' German shepherds are bred to herd sheep, and they do not herd like a collie or a cattledog, they create a boundary and trot the boundary to stop the sheep moving out of the grazing area. The dog in the video is semi- trotting the fenceline!
EPIC FAIL!!!!!!! Can't even move milk cows LOL! Maybe the only use this dog would be good for is saw its skin off and make yourself a pair of slippers so you can go hug some trees somewhere!!!!!!!!!!
You're an idiot. If you were such a "good ole Montana boy", you'd get your pedicured ass off the computer and be working. Because, as you'd certainly know since you know your shit about the "range", there is ALWAYS something to be done. This dog isn't trained for working cows. If he was, he would be doing much better. If you used your head, you'd know that. He wasn't raised on a "range", obviously. He's a pet.
How beautiful and obedient. Calm, as well. Let everybody know that a German Shepherd is the man handling the dog. The breed is the German Shepherd Dog. Three word breed name. You would think large newspapers and magazines would hire proof readers that would know that sort of fact but noooo...
oh my god, they touched noses and sniffed one another!

@lukekirkwood 1. he's not 'stressing them, they are welcome to wander off at any time. 2. only illegal to allow your dog to be loose amongst sheep

Bring him to Montana and we will see if he can work a range cow. I'll even help ya bury him after one of these cows eats his shorts.

@72milesman Lmao, no shit huh? Last branding we had a couple cows charge the horses...that dog is done for with anything but a grained-up Jersey.

@72milesman Why? Do you think dogs are born only to serve humans or what? You seem pretty retarded saying that

@Tvirus Yes, they are here to serve humans.
