It is easy to cry watching a movie like this. If one has a heart and capable of holding loving memories one is deeply touched. Italians have always been the best at making this type of movies. Very lovely stories and realistic performances by very good actors, Very humanistic. Since the days of Vittorio de Sicca I have been following Italian Cinema. It is the best. If you liked this one you must also watch "MALENA". . The muscial scores of both movies are Ennio Morricone's. The very best....
@deeder747. Isn't is great to re-visit something and come away with a greater appreciation than you originally had? Film critics Siskel and Ebert both loved the movie (two thumbs up) when it hit the theaters all those years ago. It is indeed a classic.
I love this movie so much. My father grew up in racalmuto sicily. When I was young he would tell me stories about growing up in sicily. When i finally saw this movie I knew exactly what he was talking about. There it was before my own eyes. I saw my dad and his friends running around causing shit and the way people treated each other and the life in general. I love toto and alfredo.
I'm a 21 year old guy. I saw this movie when I was 8, I liked it okay then but I just re-watched this scene now and my throat got really wobbly, and suddenly there were tears pouring from my eyes.
I don't care of that makes me lame, this shit is fucking beautiful..
I grew up in Sicily in a town just like this one and the characters, the emotions and the mood all reflect how life is with all its good and tragic times. The end theme will be played at my funeral service whenever that may come because I feel it sums up life from beging to end
I grew up in a town in Sicily ust like this on and a many people posted it is a remakable movie filled with much emotions. I have requested at my funeral service whenever that is that this theme be played it just sums up ones life from begining to end.
I've seen the ending scene hundreds of times, I repeat ,hundreds of times, still when a got home from mi job at midnight I watch it over and over again, I never get tired, best film ever, the music is magic too.
@123barriejohn I agree this is a lovely ending however this was the ending (version) for the american audience. The Directors cut (Original Italian ending) of the film continues on for 30-40mins and explains a little bit more. But you're right what an amazing ending! :)
@KeyTheTruthSeeker This is the Italian ending too. The DC does have an extra hour or so and is superior in every way to the international version, but they bought end the same way.
I'm sitting at my desk at work teary-eyed. This music stops me in my tracks everytime I hear it, it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've known. Ennio Morricone is on top of my list. Listen to the musical score by him from "Once Upon a Time in America", listen to "Deborah's Theme" (get tissues) and the original theme. Thank God for you, Maestro Marricone, for the most beautiful music in history. I hope I'll have the privilege to meet you someday, you've brought so much solace.
well, i watched this video a while back because i was looking for the theme song and changed it halfway through the video thinking, what is this i just want the song (having never seen the movie) and didnt even think twice about what this video was. Then a few weeks ago i came across the movie and when it got to this part, i almost broke down in tears. I look back and think how weird it is that i felt nothing watching this video until i knew the story. I love this movie and i love this song.
just watched this movie. for the first time in a really long time i felt a little bit more than i thought, i had a little bit more feelings than thoughts. it really put on a smile on my face when I recalled all the good and bad memories, along with imagining my future, and once more, i understood that no matter how stupid, boring and senseless is our life, it is worth living!
@MrShNDayag Exactly. It's more a visceral experience, and a passionate odyssey; I definitely put it up there with my favorites. I sometimes even think it's among the top 10.
The other amazing thing about this sequence is that, it really pays homage to the older classics while tying together a very nostalgic state of mind and with that music playing you really feel that cinema as an art form and its evolution has only grown more powerful (and as this movie demonstrates as well - the posterity of film viewers will maybe be able to pay respect to these classic age movies while you get engrossed into the true power of what surrounds the montage).
The irony in this is that Alfredo told him to leave behind the nostalgia, but the last thing he left for Salvatore is a compilation of kiss scenes cut-out from movies in his childhood, bringing back all the nostalgia to him. Love this ending.
@AngryMrBubbles Thats a lazy mans reply, the fact Hollywood is a business is no excuse for the steaming turds they call movies being released with such regularity and more often at a loss. You missed the point completely.

Respond to this video... Isn't it strange what a horribly repressed civilization Christendom has always been? I mean, expunging true love and passion from public life...? Yet, that was the prelude to a new life - every life. What was the point? Why??? Where's the shame and embarassment in love?
I just finished watching this film, and i am deeply moved. This is a film that have you laugh til you'll cry, and cry til you'll laugh. I can't help but get a bittersweet feeling from this movie, and can't help but think this is life.
Cüzeppe Tornatorenin bu filmi Azərbaycanda Avropa film festivalında (2010) göstərilib. Həmin festivalın tamaşaçısı kimi demək istəyirəm ki, orada göstərilən bütün filmlər arasında ən yaxşısı məhz "Yeni kinoteatr Paradiso" idi.

this is a time when movies MENT something. No CGI, no third rate actors, no remakes, just a simple story of true emotion...kids today havent even seen Jaws! what a waste...agreed?

Reading Toto's mind in the scene:
It has to be good. I am very busy in making movies...
It looks like a typical black-and-white movie...
Kiss scenes from old movies?
Just a second, it has started to remind me of something...
Something very important in my childhood...
A collection of kiss scenes!? I HAVE seen these scenes a long time ago!
Kiss scenes which I used to watch from behind curtains of Cinema Paradiso!
Kiss scenes which Alfredo has PROMISED to keep for me!
Alfredo!
