If I were a Tibetan, I would be taking advantage of the Olympics in China to raise international awareness about Chinese oppression. I've read many Tibetan autobiographies and talked to several monks and nuns who have been tortured by the Chinese. What China has done to the people, culture, and land of Tibet in the last 50 years is fundamentally unacceptable.

People from Japan to England are all disgusted at the way China has handled these events in Tibet. The Chinese have lost face as a progressive nation. They appear to be no different than North Korea or other dictator regimes. They have always told lies to their people and the world that Tibetans are happy citizens of China. I think these are going to be a fantastic Olympic games! The flame is going to be run through Tibet, where in case it goes out it can be reignited easily enough at one of the Chinese shops on fire. Then the Chinese are going to showcase their atheletes and set a record for most gold medals won. They'll be on a hell of a lot of Wheeties boxes! And every Chinese athelete that doesn't win gold gets sent to political re-education and then they'll get shot.

Tibet in 1959 was let by Tibetan who defended their slavery system. More than 95% of Tibetan population are slaves at that time. Tibet was the only region in China, which kept slavery until the China's central government determined to extinguish the ugly system forever.

If you guys don't know what really is happening in China, please don't make irresponsible comments. In this video, they interviewed a Tibetan and the translation is very misleading. The Tibetan said there is no need to fight with each other, but the translation is to fire unilaterally. Media should be neutral and tell ppl the truth. However, a lot of western medias including CNN only intercepted part of it, and ignored the Tibetans' killing civilians, robbing and setting fires.

My dutch friend is just back from China, he told us that he didn't see any military force attack the insurgents, instead, many Chinese and muslim people are killed by the insurgents, shops are robbed and burned, while the policemen didn't do anything. The government has the responsibility to protect inncent civilians' lives and properties from the harm's way of the rioters. Its really very simple--Tibetans should have their own land back, and the Chinese should go back to China proper where they belong. During the craziness of the early days of the Peoples Republic, the Red Army self-righteously invaded Tibet and imposed repressive communism on the Tibetans. They have tried to make amends in recent years with investment in Tibet, but the Han Chinese don't really belong there. How can anyone be surprised that now the Tibetans want their country back again.

Don't be silly and ignorant. If Tibet was an independent country before the Chinese Red army invasion in 1950 with its own language and culture, why should China be able to stay there, stealing the resources and oppressing the Tibetans?

Right! Big countries like Russia, China, and the US always become arrogant and power mad and oppress smaller peoples. Its time to devolve power into smaller units and abolish nation states which are an artifact of an earlier time.

When is the last time you saw a Canadian, Australian or American tank riding into a reserve? When is the last time you saw one of our army trucks carying Natives head bowed down to scare others? We messed up but we stopped it. Please do your research before making generalization.

yeah childish, when Chinese see a new independent nation can be formed and arised from the lands of American, Canada, or New Zealand etc,....then China is convinced that you people are serious about Tibetans, otherwise it sounded like a thief preaching morality, why do you people so favor of Tibetan over your own indigenous people ? Let them free and independent, let them form their own country in your lands.

what do you mean by "when chinese see"? chinese can't see anything other than what the gov allows. chinese gov is only lucky that it's illegal for people to own guns, otherwise, the chinese gov has already been overthrown hundred times.

nisuck, you don't get my point, how can you ask people to do something which you can't or are not willing to do it yourself ? by the way, i do agree China need to improve Tibetans' human rights, but to claim independence is another issue, which even the most democratic gov. would not allow to happen in their country.

In point of fact, I do favor territorial rights for indigenous people and not just in the reservations they are in now in the United States. But the Tibetans don't even have reservations that they can control themselves in their own country. That is plain wrong!

the monks are rich enough to buy cell phone, WHY should chinese invest alot in Tibet instead of spending money on poor Han children. Tibet got no resources at all, why chinese government keeps Tibet, just leave them alone as they want to,and if tibetans can't bear the poverty, they will go to china to work illegally, at that time, ask tibetans get the fxxk out of china while han people don't want to be influenced by tibetan culture. That's fair, huh?
