Scale is a potent way to express a concept I think. I hope these paintings hold up even though they're not stretched.

nice work. Mike Howard is a retired Police Oficar who came to terms with his homosexuality at the age of 50 and explored his creative side. Big mike as he was refered to, as he was a big stong police man " the stereo type" A changed man with a creative side.

Last fall I saw Eric Fischl talk about the important role that the artist can play in a society helping the culture deal with tragedy. Kimberly is right. The work is important because it not only deals with a martyr of a person but of an idea, ideas that still haunt our culture. Maybe it is the sincerity of the artist that makes it fresh.

Maybe a little bit of Leon Golub with an assasination instead of torture approach? It's the scale that does it. I don't think they would be as potent if they were smaller.
