  • for me when i try to run it, it shows the startup screen, then switches to command prompt screen, gives me a command prompt then it freezes

  • such an ugly OS

  • Could you post the settings you choosed on Vm? When I try to install windows 98 there are 11 minutes left, than I get two bluescreens, windows wants to restart followed by another warning...

  • Fast running Windows 98 in Virtual PC and vmware

  • 512mb is very slow

  • dosbox is better im sure :)

  • @roi734 lolno

  • I wouldn't say it worked well...

  • @ryebread761 Old rig, check out the new redo I posted on my newer machine.

  • intel pentium 4 is 1.6 ghz

  • how you get Glass CMD???

  • @SRMTHFGLover1

It was made by a user named Komalo on DeviantArt. I'll add the link to the description, just download it from there. Then run it, or even set it to run on start up so it works without having to run the exe everytime.

  • Does it have all the the windows 98 sounds too?

  • @FunkyGranny9 I honestly can't remember if the sounds were there and worked or not. I really need to do a new video with a fresh install.

  • Haha, you have a corrupt version of Windows 98. Thats why it runs slow.

  • @Dalek22comments Not so much. They disk wasn't in bad shape at all, so it installed fine, it's more or less that I was running it all on a computer that was barely up to running Windows 7, let alone a virtual machine on top of it.

  • @dalto11 what theme are you using i reomend Sevenvg with true transparency. i have 512mb or ram so i dont use true transparency

  • @arun1pilot Default Windows 7 Aero theme. I've upgraded to a new computer though, with a nice 4 gigs of RAM.

  • @Dalek22comments Though there were a few system files missing, I agree it had some issues.

  • that is a weird windows 7

  • @mas90009 how exactly it's weird?

  • Ur running windows 7 with only 512MB with NO PROBLEM! My pc have 894MB of RAM(becoz of the onboard VGA it takes 128MB)! And ur running CAMTASIA STUDIO WITHOUT ANY LAG! MY PC get slow when i use camtasia so i have to use windows basic theme! What the hell's wrong with my PC??

  • The problem is that VirtualBox is really meant for the NT kernal, so OSes like NT, W2K and XP work great, but older ones like Windows 98 and 95 barely work, if at all. I've encountered plenty of errors with 98 in VirtualBox. It worked fine in Microsoft Virtual PC.

  • how to isntall it ? i ahve iso but donno pleae help

  • Why the hell doesn't VirtualBox support Win98 yet? I can't get any kind of video acceleration.

  • @JoeyJoeJoe5000 It's meant for the NT kernel (NT, 2000, XP, and later). Try Microsoft Virtual PC instead.

  • Can I get an ISO for this?

  • @stormyweather543 Sorry man, used my old disk for the install. You'll have to either find a disk from someone or torrent the iso (though being illegal, I don't recommend it)

  • @dalto11 I understand if you downloaded something current like a Windows 7 .iso, but would it really be illegal to download a Windows 98 .iso? I'm just wondering since Microsoft no longer sells it, so it's not like they would lose money if you downloaded it lol.

Also (just another quick question), is your Windows 7 a 32-bit or 64-bit version?

  • @WVJimbo Well, still iffy, but I doubt they'd be harsh, if any, legal consiquences. So it's up to you, since they don't sell it anymore. And that was 32-Bit, I'm on a new computer running 64-Bit and a none RC build of Windows 7 of course.

  • thanks for your answer...i seem to have mixed things up a bit because it said that there wasn´t enough memory to create temporary files xD

well, i figured out, that i had to use an image of an win98 floppy disk to format my virtual drive to fat32...however it still doesn´t work...now it doesn´even start the installation but gives me a " command or filename not recognized" error.... :(

btw...i type: setup c: which should be right i think....

  • well, when trying to install win98 i keep getting an error message saxing i hadn´t enough temporary memory...do you know how to fix this?

  • @msgr33nday You may need to free up some RAM on your machine by closing out of unwanted processes, or try allowing 64 mb of RAM or higher for use in the virtual machine.

  • swching to virtual pc

  • What graphics drivers did u used?

  • ------------- Google Traslate --------------

extact same thing happens to me.

Install win98 in VirtualBox and going very slow,

Ordano test: DV6 hp portable, i7 720, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GT230M; windows 7 home premium

In the tower (280GHz, 2GB RAM) I have Microsoft Virtual PC, and all OS (up linux [- noreplace-paravirt]) work perfectly

I just installed win98 in Microsoft Virtual PC and runs perfectly. but I can not put a full screen error DirecDraw

    weird, right?

    raro, verdad?

  • cool havnt seen a chrome user sincce i started thumbs up just for having google chrome ^-^

  • ok that was nice but how to go about setting it up in dos box? not to mention driver support? without graphic drivers this would be limited setup.

  • In my defense that was the RC build. The RTM runs like a charm now. But my machine is rather sad. It did kill its speed.

  • I use VirtualBox every day for work. I'm usually running 3 or 4 VMs at the same time(XP Pro, 2003 SBS, FreeBSD & ArchLinux are my most common). I have NEVER seen VirtualBox run that slow. For kicks, I installed Windows 98 SE on a new VM and it took less than 90 seconds from booting the VM to fully loaded desktop. It seems pretty obvious that Windows 7 is choking the life out of your machine.
