It is a remake of a movie that has already been made be it 2year or 10 years... It's not being nerdy but stating fact and everybody it is just a movie even though I agree the Swedish one was really good...
quit calling it a remake!!! in order for a movie to be a remake there has to be another movie made ten or more years ago, uneducated youtube nerds. this is just another version, another interpretation of a book that is kind of based on real-life experience. i have watched both. to tell you the truth, i kind of like rooney's lisbeth better than the swedish one.
@Creighla "If you have something remade, you ask someone to make it again, especially in a way that is better than before." Even if David made another version of a movie that already exists, "cause it's going more after the book" it's a remake... And I'm sure if the swedes never made the movie to start with, he wouldn't make an american version. The americans ALWAYS americanize everything that's doing well outside the U.S.
@demonDUCKisHUNGRY Ohhhhh, so you mean that should make it okay? Sweden was already making the swedish version - or already finished the first movie when Fincher started to think about making an american version. If I was a film director I would never have made a movie after a book if I knew that someone else was there first, well... atleast not in some years. It's 2 years bewteen the release of the swedish movie and the american movie. 2 Y E A R S!
@tokzan Its really not the worst thing in the world, especially when the two versions are very different, especially in their portrayal of Lisbeth. Whereas Noomis was just an angry goth-punk computer hacker and Mara was an emotionally cold person who resented people and didn't dress according to style, she dressed to tell people to Stay the fuck away from her. Very different, and much closer to the books description of the character (physically too).
@demonDUCKisHUNGRY Haha, of course it's not the worst thing in the world but it's still pissing me off, and maaaany other people, but few americans since it's their country that wants to americanize everything :) You know, I wouldn't have cared at all if America was first but they weren't, like many other movies. I wouldn't have cared if they made a american version of this movie 20 years after the swedish one, but we're still just talking about 2 little years. Pathetic
The Swedish Lisbeth was exactly how I envisioned her when reading the book, the Hollywood version is not, otherwise the other characters are far superior to the Swedish film.
The original movie was made in 2009. The Swedish film production company Yellow Bird created film versions of the all Millennium Trilogy books. Including The girl with the Dragon Tattoo (but because people are lazy and did not want to read sub titles. It has been remade.) I am sure that they did a great job but it really looks like the original movie almost frame for frame. I have not seen it yet so take it with a grain of salt.
@christinecountry1 You can call it a remake if you like, but it's more than "just a remake". This ain't your average low-effort remake. This is a "remake" with love put into it by none other than David Fincher.
I watched the pre-screening of this movie yesterday, December 19, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara...and it was riveting and nerve-pounding...I kept wanting more! This movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo(American version), rocks...Rooney Mara as Lisbeth rocks and is the ideal front runner and main character of this must see movie of the year! The chemistry between Craig and Mara sizzles and they're the perfect duo for this soon to be blockbuster mystery-thriller movie!
I saew about ten minutes of the Swediah film, felt I figured out the mystery( or at least a big part of it in that a certain person was probably alive, and her uncle an idiot that thinks that a murderer would try to frighten him with bluebells) and I stopped watching. But maybe I would have been surprised.
I read the novel "The girl with the dragon tattoo" a few months ago then last week bought "the girl that played with fire". Two of the very best novels I have ever read. Ablolutely fantastic. It is such a shame that the author did not live to see the success of his amazing work. Such a shame.
@slea79 For your information I am an avid reader. I am one of those people who perfer books and newspapers over TV. I assume you did not think much of the millenium series. I for one love the series. Now who anointed you the all supreme judge and jury of good literature???
@iSuRGiCaL Why? Just because she's no Noomi Rapace? Because she's mostly been in comedies and not dramas? Don't bring down an actor just because of their typecast. You might be surprised.
@mastermetal777 Haha i think theres been a misunderstanding. When i said "kill it" i meant shes going to blow people away and open alot of eyes to how amazing she is.
Really digged the 30 second TV spot # 2 trailer! Short and effective! Goin ape shit looking forward to this film, I mean come on, Fincher? Pshyeah! Fuckin awesome!
the trailer was amazing not superior to the teaser but still pretty damn good and the shots in this trailer are amazing also Trent Reznors Score is fantastic
I just saw the trailer myself Chris, and it does look like a good movie. I still don't think it'll be superior to the Swedish film. I love the cast and acting.
Even if this movie is gonna be good. it represents everything that is wrong with hollywood right now. this book has been made into a good sweedish movie in the year 2009. Hollywood puts out a remake 2012. This is so unnecessary.
watch the swedish version...fincher looks like he borrowed a lot of the look from the original...and it was one of my favourite movies of the year last year
the Swedish films are bad quality the cinematography looks bad but overall out of the three films the only one that stands out is The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo the other two were nothing like the book. I have faith that the American adaptions will be much better.
@sfighter991 Actually i do have love for film making i didn't say i hated the Swedish version of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo i said the cinematography was bad but the movie was good much better than the sequels that came after so you cant tell me that i don't have a love of films.
@sfighter991 the swedish films cinematography was pretty mediocre and i did not enjoy the sequels and the american version will probably will be really good
@THEANnetWork To each his own, I love the film regardless. I didn't see the sequels, but seeing some shots from the other films in a Lisbeth Salander tribute video, they look low grade comparing them to the original.
I saw the trailer recently on Clevver Movies, and though I still have doubts that it'll be as good as the Swedish version, it does look like a pretty good film.
I'm really looking forward to this. I agree with lordtufty something, the swedish version wasn't amazing. And when the original fails, you can always hope that Hollywood does something different =)
No offense Chris, but you really owe it to your self to watch the original Swedish version of the film, because it is superb, and I really REALLY don't think the American version will top it.
Also, Noomi Rapace is Lisbeth Salander, I don't care who they cast in the American version, she won't be able to top Rapace!!
So Chris, get a copy of the Swedish version and watch it!!!
I seen the movies and I'm not interested in reading the books although I'm a huge reader. Fire was good and the other two were okay. I think I will see the remake but I seriously doubt I will see it on the big screen and I think it's silly it's being released close to Christmas.
I think David Fincher sold his soul to the devil. Because even when I can't see what's so great about a movie people are showering him with praise. When you take the original movie into account, I'm sure this will honestly be good. Even if I think the whole idea of it is damn silly. The European version of the movie was beyond amazing and I really don't know how they will top that. But than again, we are talking about Fincher here.
@TheTrueDimension I personally didn't like the Swedish version that much (and I am Swedish myself). I am sure fincher will do a better job. I think that the lead Swedish actors were miscast
Beyond excited for this movie. Thought the book was great but I think Fincher is going to take it and make it his own while still staying true to the feel of the novel. Could not be more excited for this.
