I can't believe she actually did him justice. I have never heard a cover of a Queen song that left me feeling satisfied at all. But this is beautiful. I actually think she really advertises his songwriting with this performance.

They key isn't that high, nor are the notes for that matter, the highest note, D5 are traditional for low female singers, like contraltos and mezzos.

I'm not a trained musician but I do have two nieces who are both sopranos, one of whom has a sung Phantom of the Opera, hitting the E6. Happy has sung a higher note, a G-Sharp6, but the difference was that she wasn't singing words at that key, just "ah".

The Phantom piece was formless vocalizations, written to get that ugly SOB Andrew Lloyd Webber laid by Sarah Brightman.

How many opera singers actually sing words of an opera in that octave?

Not many if all. It's impressive that Happy can hit that note. Not many sopranos can hit that note. I think The Queen of The Night Aria by Mozart has a G6 in it, but it's a staccatoed "Ah".

*smile* Too late, she's already married. She didn't just randomly choose a Queen song to cover. Queen is her biggest influence, and she's a self-described fanatic. She's mentioned them in every interview where she's asked about her influences, and she was devastated when Freddie died.

Unfortunately no other Queen covers, but if you search the web for "Happy Rhodes Nevermore Rarities" you'll come across my place (Vickie's Place), and then search page for either Nevermore or Left Hand Demos and you'll find a tribute to Freddie. Happy was a HUGE ***HUGE*** Queen fan, her first fandom, knew every song by heart, very influential. She was devastated by Freddie's death. I wish she had done more covers.

I've measured her highest and lowest notes, and she has a genuine 4 octave range (A2 to G-Sharp6). Happy is a very big Queen fan.
