  • fantastic.

  • Percy Granger: a perfect mix. J.K. Rowling would approve.

  • du eer en naar

    sry but iiits true

  • The arpeggio section at 1:09 was played way too fast.

  • @HarmoniousKeys when youre name is Percy Aldridge Grainger you can do what ever the eff you want

  • great!

  • wow i have to play this for a concert.....i will never be as good as him

  • Tha-tha-that was beautiful

  • I don't think this is just one person playing... the keyboard layout is like a 4-hand version. I think it was possible to play duets with oneself on rolls, wasn't it?

  • @senafan Not always, this piece can be scored for a piano solo for skilled pianists. This version is a piano solo. As a pianist myself I can hear that there are only two hand parts, just cleverly written to sounds like there are more instruments playing than there are. Just goes to show you that he was a great pianist to make you think there is more than one person playing.

  • Awesome! TY theoshow2 for posting

  • @paulostroff99

Thanks for sharing this wonderful performance. I am an avid collector of Grainger the pianist who

IMO does not get enough credit for being a first rate pianist.

  • where did you find this scroll?

  • Does anybody know how can i find the partiture???

  • @ititioalbo always use website sheetsearch. com

  • this song is so relaxing .

  • Well, I think you should correct the title to the actual "Dance of the Sugar Plumb Fairy".

  • Finally, youtube is full of techno and hiphop remixes of this piece. Annoying as fuck.

  • is this a solo? or are there two piano?

  • @inicc Solo reproducing piano - it's playing off a roll.

  • @inicc Solo reproducing piano.

  • @inicc Solo, played off a roll on a reproducing piano.

  • @JonasClark so there is only one track recorded? like he could sit at one piano and play this? how do you get the sheet music for this version?

  • @inicc haha it definitely sounds like it. i guess that's the magic of his playing

  • No matter how hard and how much I practice this piece, it will never sound like this. I have no idea how he accomplished this!

  • That's a cool name. Percy.

  • I never hear rolls i like except lhevinnes somehow magically. But here is a genius again who seems forgotten .This is full of sounds and personality. PLEASE tell me he made some recordings of more than chestnuts. He IS FABULOUS and so goodlooking. Where's his Chopin&Beethoven and Hung Rhapsodies that era so loved?

  • What period is this recording from?

  • Where can I find this exact version of this song in sheet music with the exact octave?

Because I have seen different versions with lower octaves but I love this one!

  • @XxxMunkyJunkxxX It seems to be almost impossible to find it... as the description says it is from the Duo Art Piano Roll no. 6798. I went on a little mission to try and get hold of this but had no luck

  • @daveypiano Thanks anyway:)

  • I love the darker tone applied to this, almost a gothic feel to it. Beautiful!

    Ron.

    ( ;-} >

  • 1:17 is the best part

  • Does anyone know if this is a Percy Grainger transcribed piece or was it transcribed by someone else? This version is really beautiful.looking forward to a good reply.

  • Mikhail Pletnev maybe?

  • Comment removed

  • @cinkwink This can't be Pletnev's arrangement as Pletnev was only 4 when Grainger died.....

  • @cinkwink Wonderful; you have been very helpful regarding this particular arrangement, as I would love to purchase it and learn to play it myself. Thank you. :)

    Ron.

    ( ;-} >

  • @cinkwink I also got hold of the Pletnev arrangement, but it is not what Percy is playing here. You can see people playing the Pletnev arrangement on youtube and you can see that it is quite different. I did some more research - this version is from a Duo Art Piano Roll. I looked up the entry in the catalogue, and this version was created by Percy Grainger himself. I have not managed to find the sheet music anywhere sadly

  • no doubt

best piece of music by tchaikovsky

    best perfomance by percy grainger

  • 1. This is the best SOUNDING Piano Version of the Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy by Pyotr Tchaikovsky I've heard as of yet.

    2. I seriously doubt the stops at the start and some points in the middle of the performance are intentional, but if they are - please do not use them. It's a dance composotion, interfering with its essence like that doesn't work in this case.

    3. Good job, seriously, I just nitpick at times, but I can't play it that good. Way to go, friend.

  • A mervelous, fey interpretation.

I never heard the darkness in this before.

  • Sounds appropriate for piano. Wxcellent arrangement and performance.

  • My favorite composer....a great mind.

  • Tchaikovsky or Grainger?

  • Grainger

  • augh this is wondeful, thanks for posting!

  • it's also from Tetris (NES)

  • makes me want to play Tetris

  • Great, but you spelled "Tchaikovksy" wron; It's Tchaikovsky.

  • You spelled "wron" wrong; It's wrong.

  • hahahahaha, no! I did that for effetct, to illustrate my point. (joking)

Yeah, I know, how ironic. I realized it right after, but what can you do.

Don't forget to check that title, You spelled it right in the tags section.

  • Sorry Sufial I meant to give you the thumbs up but pressed down by accident. Great spot on wron; you and apsis make a sterling comedy team

  • I found out recently there is some kind of Grainger museum at Melbourne university. Next time I'm there Im going to check it out.

  • Some kind of museum?

Please do a little bit of research..

It's the one he set up himself.

  • I'd like to say something quite nasty toward drumbo2002 here, but I'll save it for editorials.

Thank you for sharing that, NZtegman; I'll have to look into seeing it for myself!

  • Say it if you must.

  • Did anyone else hear the bass clarinet? Yes i am aware there was not one...but I heard it come out of his piano playing...so pure. It was almost as if the clarinetist or basoonist was there...listen at 0:17 on the run down to the A# (i think it is).

  • Oh yeah, very good pointing that out, i would of never noticed it.

  • @goodridgewinners i agree

  • pure magic

  • Grainger could make a piano sound like no other .............

  • Grainger was simply a great musician. He recorded rolls for Aeolian Duo-Art in New York. This a really nice roll -- and the piano it's played on sounds excellent.

  • I agree with musiKraZ. Grainger has such dynamic contrast and creative imagination in this performance.

  • Very professionally played! I liked it!

How come no one else posted here? If it was because they ignored this, well 2bad. I think this is magnificent...and I am a picky listener, you know.
