Hal Ketchum has had a few great songs over the years, examples of such include, "Mama Knows The Highway," "That's What I Get For Losing You," "Past The Point Of Rescue," and, of course, "Small Town Saturday Night." If anyone can name any more of his songs, please feel free to shoot me an E-mail.

ok, i'm 18 and don't live in that small of a town but i still cruse around in my truck and blast my country music from waylen to brooks and dunn to john denver and anywhere in between idfk why people don't like it. i wish my life could be more like most of these songs
Man I wish my friends could dig music like this. Im 26, single, and ready to live life. Yet all my friends are married with kids settln down. whats wrong with them. we got beer to drink, women to meet, and places to go.
@06hrhillbilly Oh crap I see myself in your position when I get that old lol. I am 21 and my friends are already calming down on me and not wanting to party, meet women, or go places.
I worked the other night at a "Big Time"(Commercially Successful0 Country Act-Lord, It was like a Madonna concert for goodness sake, yes, the lady had a big voice and the musicians were all pros, but...The set was a monstrosity and they did 5 or so covers of like Jackson 5 songs and others, etc. The lady wore these Lady Ga-Ga ( well, not quite that bad) costumes, but you get the idea, it seems the music just can't stand on it's own-and you know, in many cases they're right.

ok i know pam tillis, mark chestnutt, doug stone, ty herndon, john anderson, kenny rogers but can anyone tell me anyone else whos music was popular in the early 90's that im missing? i grew up to those artist and more but thats all i can remember besides ofcourse hal ketchum
@nwojunkie true but these r the greats! lol we got the good music growing up not that todays music isnt good BECAUSE IT IS... just its different i think i like the older stuff a lil bit more
@millicentaustin yep! :) tanya tucker, pan tillis, doug stone, david ball, ty herndon, i could go on.. lol love all them message me if u want to kno some of the others i remember.
@tennesseelvr, Great insight. You are RIGHT ON. I never thought of it that way but county music just makes life great. No cop killer rap or Lady GaGa "respect" songs just slices of lives lived set to music. Just great stuff.
I love this song . . . I was raised on the country from the late 80s-early 90s. It was all we'd have on the radio when we'd be in the car with my mom. I can't stand a lot of today's. And I love hearing what the lyrics really mean now, lol. When I was younger I always pictured something way different.
@italianman1992 i grew up then to! and pam tillis, mark chestnutt, doug stone, ty herndon, john anderson, kenny rogers.. are just a few that its older country but its good music and what i grew up to! i love the music we grew up on!
YOU ROCK ! Thank you so much for posting this song ! ... Love it with all my fiber of my being ... yeah back in the day a doallers worth of gas got ya somewhere lol
I remember I used to love this song when I was little, but I'd completely forgotten about it until I heard it last night while I was aimlessly flipping radio stations. How could I forget this song?
I remember when my dad used to go to Texaco, where the commercial used to say, "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star--the great big Texaco star!" The man would come to the window and ask if my dad wanted a fill up, and while he was waiting for the tank to fill up, he would even clean the windows. Then after filling the tank, he would even bring a free collectors drinking glass. All that for only 19 cents a gallon! Those were the days!
I still remember when gas went for about $0.95 a gallon and I used to be able to get my father to take me for a ride, just because... Those *were* the days.
I still do, 65 Fast Back. Though she gets about 14 gal to the mile sometimes I swear with her oh well. Haha I guess my daily driver will still be my Civ
Yea. But in a small town. You know everyone and you can trust almost everyone. Hell I don't even lock my truck at night. Plus I don't like the smog the city has.
We werea allways broke and we still did have to be bad just to have a good time,my hometown was a very, very smalltown called Woodfin in N.C.I lived this life, love the song
As far as singing ability goes, as far as Hal Ketchum's voice is concerned, he's up there with Don Williams and Gordon Lightfoot. The man's got talent and that is very rare to find......
I love this song. I wish I could find a station that played it. Brings back memories of my hometown when I was still in high school. Nothing like small town America.
The town I grew up in didn't have a movie theatre. We all too often wound up staring out in the distance at the 18 wheelers passing by. We knew what the world was, we didn't live far from a mid-sized city...but when you don't have your own car....
And when we did, we went 90miles an hour down the road to the river. And back just to see the tail lights flash
whenever I hear this song I just picture the kids in my town (which is very small) going 4-wheeling for the first verse, The second one them hanging in the back of a pickup truck just chillin, and the last one of my friends after graduation leaving stopping a little, then flooring it.
