Having a symbols of Budhism in human body (TATTOO) is completely FORBIDDEN. It is stated in one of the Budhism Book that it would create a bad karma in one;s life by doing so. Intention has nothing to do with it. You can honor the Bodhisatva by doing what she has been doing, give your compassion and mercy to all the living things, be a vegetarian and stop creating bad karma. help those who need your help, forgive sincerely. Those are the right things to do to honor Guan Yin.

Just wondering here. Im planning on getting a portrait of Guan Yin tattoo on my back. I' am Chinese, raised as a Buddhist, and whenever I've always been in doubt, I've always made my prayers to Guan Yin for mercy. Anybody know if it's considered bad luck or shameful if I was to get a tattoo of Guan Yin? My reason to get one is just that I want to honour her (no different than having a statue of her on my altar) and I want to feel closer to her.

In my opinion, in our daily life, we engage in activities that might not be very appropriate to have a tattoo of Guan yin on the back., To feel closer to Guan Yin, we should cultivate and often recite her name so that our mind and heart/faith is closer to her, and that she isa manifestion of our compassion, this is my opinion , so do ask an ordained bhiksu/bhiksuni for his or her view on this.

@canucksnationDo as you please, but go to a good, skillful artist so Kannon can be always keeping your back and be in a good shape, a real work of art. You have several options. Do it in Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Tibetan style, namely as Kwan She Yin, Kannon, Kwan Se Um Bosal, Chenrezig. If you want to be closer and have greater respect go to a good practicing monk or Lama, and ask Him for empowerment in mantra. Then do on mala 1 000 times daily, OM MANI PADME HUM or KWAN SE UM BOSAL mantra.
