@hlaltimus the old cars do remain intact. But consider that the forces of the impact have to go somewhere. Where does it go? The car transmits it to the people inside. Our bodies can't handle the deceleration and torque, so bits come off, and our internal organs get sloshed around. Much better for the carcass of the car to deform and absorb the force. The deceleration is taken up by the deformation. It's much better for the people inside. I vote to trash the car!

Damn.. From what I know, bus drivers have it far worse off. As instead of a load, you are hauling living people. Just recently, a man and his wife were driving a long distance trip in a bus, they were on an over pass. The driver mistook the highway below as a on ramp, drove right off. 6 dead, 8 in hospital, 20 injured. Both the man and his wife were killed, people thrown on the freeway and on the over pass.
