I've never heard of this game before and I bought it on PS1 classics because Famitsu gave this 40/40 (the only perfect score for the PS1) and I had extra money too.... I play it and I fell in love with it! Why didn't I grow up with this game as well!??!

Im still on the second fucking dragon boss and its really getting on my nerves. I really want to see how the story goes and I really want to cheat my way through. I dont care about the gameplay anymore, I just wanna know what happens T_T Now I feel like dropping this game. FUCK
@darkpheonix168 I just beat that dragon, it is a difficult boss indeed, specially if you haven't figured out the the weapon creation and the affinity setups, the best advice can give you is to go with a good shield and use the spells prostasia and degenerate, aim to the neck and head, get close and try to surround it and if you have the fire defense use it.
I think the battle system is pure genius, it is an actual challenge and not just some copy paste Japanese RPG like the FFclones.
@darkpheonix168 It's a really complex Battle System, but I'll give you a hint. Have all types of weapons, and be proficient with everyone of them! The stats that have the most drastic effects when it comes to damage are actually the type of damage you do, like, Piercing, Blunting or Edged damage. Fighting a golem? Blunt! Fighting a Zombie? Edge! Fighting a warrior? Pierce! (not alaways...)
The ending to this game left me waiting for a sequel. If you have passed the game you know what I mean. Instead of making more final fantasy games make a sequel to this game. I think besides Metal gear solid Vagrant Story was one of the best games on the PS1.

I loved this game. It was really in 3d while other square soft games were 3d models on pre-rendered backgrounds. The story was dark, it got creepy in a lot of places, and there was a mystery to the storyline.
downloaded it yesterday. It's awesome, reminds me of a combination between Final Fantasy (The Yoshida ones like Tactics and XII) and the Ogre Battle franchise, mainly Tactics Ogre. Best of all, it was made during that golden time in the PSX era when they decided to give it a well scripted translation, so it doesn't feel like I'm playing a dated game in need of a new translation.

@newworldfool its hasnt aged well, but if you can look past the roughness of it you will find the coolest most looking, intricate menu wading, loot grinding, weapon crafting, combat training, replayable turn based action (yes its action and turn based, weird) rpg of the past decade or so.
but it is a game that was best experience in its time. i revisted my save file of 5 play throughs and 100+ custom designed weapons (or so) and was shocked at how it looked so... sloppy visually.
@nnndddnnnddd What? Visually this is one of the best looking Playstation 1 games. And the animations of the characters are even better than lots of games we see today. Though of course the textures aren't in any high resolution and the amount of polygons ain't that impressive either. But for a PS1 game this has amazing graphics.
If by that you mean you wish for it to be made available for download on the PSN as a PSone Classic, you're in luck: it'll be available in North America tomorrow (March 1st). If, however, you mean you would only consider playing this if it were remade with HD graphics, you should probably just eat shit and die.
I LOVE this game! Sure, I love Final Fantasy, but those games totally veered people from this excellent game of the same company. The graphics are superb considering it's a psx game, too.

10 years ago I rented this game from blockbuster in Clifton....it was pretty good. Graphics were pretty, the script was pretty good...why can't they make a sequel was based on sales. This should be on psn!!!
The PsX era graphics were the greatest. There's just something far more memorable and fun about the games like this where not everything looked photo-realistic and glorified; it was just right. RIP good games.

Graphics-wise, obviously FFVII is going to look out of date but that's no reason for it to have a weaker plot. Vagrant Story is perhaps the best game I've seen come out of Square Co. Ltd. with not only good graphics for it's time but great artistic visuals and the most in-depth, diverse and compelling storyline I've ever witnessed in a game.
i will agree, Vagrant Story is possibly the most under-rated game of all time. Could possibly be squares best. The most compelling and diverse storyline hands down has to go to Final Fantasy Tactics though in my opinion
this game is a true masterpiece, one of the greatest gamesever made and the replay value was amazing, once you beat it, you got new levels and weapons to use, it was simply amazing.
This is one of the coolest uderrated games Square ever put out! I too saw it in an old video game magazine and rushed out to buy it. I think I got stuck on the Golem boss and stopped playing it. I just now started playing it again after 8 YEARS! Why did I wait so long? This game ROCKS! It is so original! It's like the perfect blend of Final Fantasy and the Gothic themes and locale of Castlevania!!
I think the biggest problem with the game was the fact that you needed to level the weapons to fit diffirent monster types. It was really annoying to get those 1-5 damage per hit strikes.
Yeah, that WAS the only downer for me about this game...It took me forever to kill the troll boss 'cause of that very reason. If you are lucky enough to find a weapon suited to your needs you're all good, but usually you have to have a healthy stock of cure bulbs and roots to get by....
It DOES do that, my friend! Imanaged to get my hands on an old Vagrant Story strategy guide. The ones on-line are terrible. The book outines EXACTLY what to do in step-by-step instructions! I'm convinced it is probably the only way to go tho beat it properly and find all the weapons, armor..etc.....Still LOVE this game!
Oh my god, I remember this game. I used to watch my dad play it. He got stuck on it a long time ago, and now, I finally got the storyline moving again after five years of walking around aimlessly.

Oh man... it's true! I have never see or played FF9 (PSX) and is a shame, I know, but I checkout here on YouTube and now I believe in you! lol FF9 have the better graphics for PSX, but a think Vagrant have the second best graphics! XD

10 years ago I rented this game from blockbuster in Clifton....it was pretty good. Graphics were pretty, the script was pretty good...why can't they make a sequel was based on sales. This should be on psn!!!

The PsX era graphics were the greatest. There's just something far more memorable and fun about the games like this where not everything looked photo-realistic and glorified; it was just right. RIP good games.

This game right here, when I bought it I didn't like it at 1st cause I was too used to final fantasy, after a while tho it turned into one of my favorite games I could never beat...then as if by magic it disappeared from my collection and the face of the earth back in 2000 this and threads of fate were my favorite 2 games

i had problems finishing this game, but it was worth it. Too bad we never got the sequel Squaresoft promise us. This game, Xenogears, and chrono cross kicked ass for story, gameplay, and music.

Graphics-wise, obviously FFVII is going to look out of date but that's no reason for it to have a weaker plot. Vagrant Story is perhaps the best game I've seen come out of Square Co. Ltd. with not only good graphics for it's time but great artistic visuals and the most in-depth, diverse and compelling storyline I've ever witnessed in a game.

i will agree, Vagrant Story is possibly the most under-rated game of all time. Could possibly be squares best. The most compelling and diverse storyline hands down has to go to Final Fantasy Tactics though in my opinion

this game is a true masterpiece, one of the greatest gamesever made and the replay value was amazing, once you beat it, you got new levels and weapons to use, it was simply amazing.

This is one of the coolest uderrated games Square ever put out! I too saw it in an old video game magazine and rushed out to buy it. I think I got stuck on the Golem boss and stopped playing it. I just now started playing it again after 8 YEARS! Why did I wait so long? This game ROCKS! It is so original! It's like the perfect blend of Final Fantasy and the Gothic themes and locale of Castlevania!!

I think the biggest problem with the game was the fact that you needed to level the weapons to fit diffirent monster types. It was really annoying to get those 1-5 damage per hit strikes.

Yeah, that WAS the only downer for me about this game...It took me forever to kill the troll boss 'cause of that very reason. If you are lucky enough to find a weapon suited to your needs you're all good, but usually you have to have a healthy stock of cure bulbs and roots to get by....

It DOES do that, my friend! Imanaged to get my hands on an old Vagrant Story strategy guide. The ones on-line are terrible. The book outines EXACTLY what to do in step-by-step instructions! I'm convinced it is probably the only way to go tho beat it properly and find all the weapons, armor..etc.....Still LOVE this game!

I thank its funny how the only Final Fantasies that are based in the same world that's not a compilation is FF tactics FF tactics advance FF 12 and somehow vagrant story is in the same world as 12 :D.

yes i found it to,i loved this game and i played it several times,i gathered all grimore spells and find all parts of damacus armor silver armor,afther you finish the game once you start over again with all your powers and the blood sign tatooed on your back wich allowes you to enter the dors wich require blood sign and in wich you could not enter the first time
