Wow, I never knew about this syndrome, and coincidentally was looking up The Mad Hatter inspiration, saying many actual hatters suffered from Korsakoff's syndrome, and then I decided to look up what that was. I'm glad I did. Now, Im learning.
people who actually are capable of doing this to themselves deserve it. Waste of life if you ask me. Is it sad? Yeah, hell yes is it. It fuckin sucks to say the least. But honestly, you need to have ALL your calories come from alcohol for WEEKS. Has anyone seen the animal models of Korsakoffs syndrome? It's actually the most pathetically sad thing I've ever seen.
my father is in the begining stages of alcohol induced dementia its nothing to joke about or laugh about its very sad its possible one day he wont remember me and im his only daughter and best friend
@sk8r4steam It's a shame, I'm sure the patients are nice people, I wish the same could be said for you. There is no justice when people are suffering and a waste of space like you are able to laugh at it. You will get what you deserve one day, really.
I remember seeing a video about Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome in a Psych class I took. It was about a man who had the syndrome for decades. Every few minutes his memory would revert back to the time before he had the syndrome. The doctors with him when his memory reverted back had to explain what happened to him. Eventually they gave him a journal and when he'd "wake up" he'd write in the journal "I'm awake for the first time" every time. That one sentence filled the entire journal.
I´m searching for the second half of the video as well. I wrote my exame about the Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. But it is in German. korsakow-syndrom.de
does anyone know where i can find the second half of this video where they are about to 'enlarge on the mechanism's involved'? I'm doing an independent reaserch project on The Korsakov Syndrome so it would be really helpful if anyone could tell me...
How people can make jokes about this is beyond me! My wife suffers from this condition and fights a daily battle against alcoholism and there's nothing funny about it. All I can say about the smug, heartless, shallow, contemptible people who've made smart-arsed remarks like put thiamin in beer is I hope that if there is any kind of natural justice in this world that they have to watch a loved suffer like this - then they can try and make a smart remark - the scumbags!
@armourerJQA Sorry about your wife, armourer. I was diagnosed with Wernicke's in 2000 and now have WKS. I'm bed ridden now but can still get to the kitchen and bath by myself (whew!). I have never even HEARD about someone else having this disease or DISEASES. The pain is awful and I take morphine. I surely have no idea how this will turn out for me. As with you and your wife. Thanks for being a loving husband to her. I couldn't survive without my wife. KevinFitzz@yahoo.com
@sk8r4steam Is it really? what the fuck ever you little comedian sometimes you dont joke about things, oh judging by some other comments you have made go choke on that dick you fucking prick. It is so clear that you are 14. 15 at push.
@sk8r4steam Haha, you are such a retard. You sound like a total retard, not even being able to type properly. Totally autistic in the way you talk to people?
teethpiece ur a piece of shit and a liar the guy in the vid is about 40 this was in 1979 the guy todqay would be 70s... ur 41 or say so, but ur hip hop vid in ur page says ur a new kid probably dumb with bad taste, black and with no cultural identity or any knowledge whatsoever and without a sense of humor
@docoftheworld You're delusional if you think he was reading that SCRIPT in the presence of the patient with which he interviewed. This educational video was produced using scripts and cameras with people BEHIND the scenes. Also, didn't you notice the change in audio volume and clarity between the dialogue and the monologue speaking to directly to the camera? The shot of the man's face during this monologue was pure Hollywood... he was NOT present. Do you think they'd risk him interrupting?
@feelmydeepthoughts That happened to me. As soon as the doc heard I had WKS, her turned to my wife, gave her all the info, and didn't give me a second look. funny but I didn't notice what happened. My wife told me.
Just found this vid. The geezer in the hospital bed at the begining was me in Bangkok before they pinned me down and drip fed me valium and stiched up my head . (no shit) God bless diazepam. Fortunaeley I've managed to escape the rest of the stuff. Knowledge is power (stop slowly, valies, thiamin, vit B complex, electrolyte powder) Plus I drink less these days. (might have something to do with it). Anyway anyone fancy a pint?
@Empirical1980 Celery is one of the healthiest foods we can put into our bodies. It naturally lowers blood pressure. Calms the nervous system. Loaded with vitamin C which your body needs on a daily basis. (It cannot produce it) Loaded with vitamin B6 a CRUCIAL vitamin that aids in serotonin production. Insoluable fiber which passes through the gut mopping up toxins. The list goes on and on. Packed with water. Great for post-workout as it replenishes the sodium lost through sweat.
Acute withdrawl results in Delirium tremens (usually 3-5 days after withdrawl) with a high pulse, tremors, anxiety and possible psychotic symptoms
Acute Wernicke's encephalopathy - triad of confusion, opthalmoplegia and ataxia
Some progress from encephalopathy to Korsakoff's psychosis, a chronic condition with dementia that is irreversible with confabulation and personality changes
this isn't fake, this is an informatic clip about korsakov, in the time this vid is made ( probably 1980) they wouldn't even think about making a fake movie about this serious subject.
Ok first of all, who do you think you are and were did you go to med school?? Or are you just born with the ability to diagnose over a you tube video?? I am not sure what that course is but it is not offered at any school here in the states. My Mother has Korsakoffs syndrome and she does not look like a derilect or a transient you judgemental person.
Ok, well do you think your typical alchoholic Police officer, Dr., fireman, Military personel, teenager, or any other person who's alchoholism gets so bad that even though they may function at work or school they still do not bother to properly intake the right sustanence for the body during there period of alchoholism, (which may be as little 1-2 years) to come down with the syndrome. Also extended time on an I.V.can do the same thing for patiens suffering from intake disorders.
I don't know, I've seen grand mal seizures before (not from DT's, but from people who almost OD on cocain and narcotics. That looks like a real grand mal seizure to me. If not, that guy should have been hired by Hollywood.
I think its kind of inappropriate to explain whats wrong with him while he is sitting there, even if he cant remember..
My grandfather has Alzheimer's and even though he cant remember things it makes him really sad when he is reminded of it, for this man to be told that hes disabled would affect him in the same way, no?
yes i agree. although this clip was very informative and interesting it would have been better if they talked about him being permanently disabled etc when he had left the room, or, give the information more careful. anyways, its a interesting clip.
It's great to find this kind of videos here! It's useful for me because I'm studying Neuropsichology right now, and it's difficult to find visual support. By the other hand is a very good idea to make people be conscious about the consequences of alcohol abusing.
This disease is very sad, especially if you have a loved one who is an alcoholic and progressing into it. This is a very good documentary that every should watch .. especially alcoholics and young drinkers.

Simple way to prevent this? Put Vitamin B1 in your beer. :P (Well, I'm not entirely sure it will help, but whatevs.)
xXwAcKoGrRlXx 1 year ago
@xXwAcKoGrRlXx
That won't help. Alcohol interferes with thiamine (B1 vitamin) absorption from the intestine.
