  • he was not in that plane because you v1 when u pass the plane and the photo shows you that he is way infront of the plane so yep

  • it seems that was the LAX-SYD full day flight that qantas used to do

  • Very cool video.

    Thanks.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • 12000 km flight

  • wow, long take off roll. Nice job.

  • la to sydney thats far

  • Its weird, but cool at the same time, the plane looks like a Volaris one, but I dont think that someone of that plane took it because it looks very far, and the plane was near.

  • how did you get the picture

  • probably google images

  • its almost creepy how much the wings are built to flex! but i love it too! looks great

  • I completly agree with you mate. My brother is a commercial pilot. I would be too but not very good at mathematics and physics. Amasing these things are powerful enough to be able to take off

  • you don't need a very much mathematics today because most of them are done by computers, you don't need very much of physics unless you plan to design a newer aircraft but the thing you need to know is the weight of this aircraft and the pound of thrust because if you taking this 747 400 ER on a short flight you need very less fuel because it reduce the weight of this plane.

  • @sideslide23 yea but computers makes errors as well. u have 2 recheck that the data and formulae are right. a single error can lead to a potential flaw

  • WOW!!!! we were on the same aircraft... well not exactly, I had arrived from Sydney that morning on probably this same aircraft... and from our videos we sat in the same seat! that's funny, which means we probably were in the same terminal. Did you depart out of the American airlines terminal because that's where we arrived?

  • Thats cool! I don't remember what terminal it was, it was too long ago and I've since made another trip to australia so I might be confusing the terminals with that trip.

  • yes, that is somethingabout the pix that was taken

upon liftoff. How did you know this?

  • how did you got the picture?? how did you discovered it???

  • What time was this taken?

  • very good capture

  • Not even no one took a picture....on the picture the camera was like not even behind the wing and tht plane was....so nope........

  • Qantas uses both GE CF6-80 and Rolls Royce RB211-524H

  • How did you find out about the picture?? Very curious?

  • Tell me how you found out that pic please.

  • How did you know where the pic came from?

  • I have done this flight before and trust me when you land you can't wait to get off the plane. Esp for someone like me that can't sleep on a plane

  • These 747400's are beautiful when I see them take off but the A340-300's are nice and quick. The A340-500 has a much better spool up sound. I Really enjoy your videos mate.

  • The air pollution in Los Angeles is disgusting!!! Clean your act up, America!!

  • The LAX-SYD route is about the limit of what a 744 can do. For the westbound route, because there is often a headwind, the A/C is often weight restricted.

Because of the range, the A/C is essentially carrying a full load of fuel, which makes it VERY heavy. A 744 will typically rotate at a ground speed of about 150-175 MPH (statute) on a transatlantic flight. However, on my last SFO-SYD flight, we were over 210 MPH (statute) when we rotated. And then the plane climbs like a lead brick.

  • did you have a gps or something? i one time used mine on a 737 takeoff and it was amazing how fast we were at 100 mph

  • how did you get the picture

  • @MikeGinny I remember when Philippine airlines used to fly to london they use the B744, and the flight was 16 hours and 53 mins(straight flight) LAX to Sydney is about 14-15 hours.

  • @MikeGinny Reminds me of the takeoff and climb out from Tiawan to Honolulu in a 747-1,2, or 300 in 1980. Squishy and a little nerve wracking.

  • Sacramento can land 747s and that is about 400 miles from LA

  • Whoa! 15 hours..Was there any entertainment?

  • I've been on 4 long flights. When I was 6 I went on Untied Airlines from San Francisco to Sydney and back. I don't remember any entertainment. The last 2 was when I was 10 or 11 going from San Francisco to Hong Kong on Singapore Airlines(best airlines ever in my opinion). There was like an 8" screen on the back of the chair and a remote. You can watch TV and play games but they are pretty lame. Sleeping can be hard too. Some airlines have flatbeds in First class and maybe even Business too.

  • i once went from mumbai to JFK.......17:00hrs..but there were touch screen tvs....delta

  • How did you find out about the picture?

  • I Love Planes :D

  • I work for qantas ops @ LAX....this flt # is 008..leaves @ 12:50pm to sydney..but now qantas doesnt fly dis flt to sydney @ this time..oh well

  • I don't think the picture at the end was taken from the airplane. The other plane is sitting on runaway 25 Left, but the still picture shows 25L in the foreground. So how could a passenger on a plane sitting on 25L take a picture with a camera (which was using a long telephoto lens btw) showing runway 25L?

It's more likely someone either on the airport grounds or standing behind the fence on Imperial Highway took that picture.

  • And it was definitely NOT taken from the Imperial Ave. hill.

  • How? ^^ We would like to know...The best part was the end LOL.

  • Its going to either Melbourne, Australia or Sydney Australia.

  • how did u find out then?

  • you should of cut the whole flight out and then reappear landing at sydney

  • i didn't film the landing but i should have because we had to go-around and that would be cool to get on film.

  • Excellent video! And nice RB211's sound! Added to favourites.

  • this actually was one of the qantas 747's with cf6 engines.

  • Has the Qantas changed engines? I always saw RB211 on her 744...

  • they still have those planes but they also have some with cf6 engines, i don't know why.

  • Qantas use the newer engines on the 747-400ER. The older Longreach 747-400s still use the RB211s.

  • Damn, you're so correct. The original 747s can't reach KLAX, the longreach -400ER can. Do they still use RB211 engines, or more effecient PW4062s? xD

  • the original -400s still can reach KLAX from YSSY no problems. The new 400ers aren't using the RB211s anymore. I believe you're right that they are using the PWs now.

  • Hehe sorry about KLAX. 6900 NM is alot to cover for the might old "Queen". I must say, I've started to fall in love with PW4062 engines. Quiet, efficient, uses less fuel. Most of the 747s in the cargo division today, uses PW engines. Whilst Singapore still use PW on their commercial routes.

  • They aren't using the PWs, they use the GE engines.

  • qantas use GE

  • Qantas use British Built Rolls Royce RB211-524s on their Jumbo's mate

  • the newer ones have the amazing and better GE CF6's

  • Sorry !! Correction. They don't on the 747-400ER's. They are GE powered.

  • Oh Deer, I like to see the RR when I'm in the air

  • They 400ers use the General Electric engines, not the PWs.

  • My apologies...you're right...they are GE's.

  • I don't believe that they use PW engines. Just GE and RR.

  • Yep just GE and RR. You're right. My mistake on the PWs

  • Yes they can! The original 747-400s can reach LAX without any problems whatsoever. They have a range of over 7000 nautical miles. The -400ers have a bit longer range, but Qantas was doing LAX-SYD with 747s nonstop without any problems whatsoever. In fact, the 747-200 I believe can cover the route as well...the 747-100 falls just 800 miles short of being able to do it.

  • Cool... :D

  • lol you wouldnt want to be redirected to another airport in a 747-400 lol

  • Ummm...ok?

  • wel say the los angeles area had a massive storm and planes couldnt land, that developed after the plane took off from sydney, youd want to hope theres a safe airport within 500 miles of you otherwise the standard 747 wouldnt make it.

  • Actually, when I made my comment, I forgot to take into account that the measurement I made between Sydney and Los Angeles was in regular miles, not nautical miles. In nautical miles, a 747-400 has about 600 extra miles of fuel on it, so if it were redirected, you might have some room. With most aircraft, you wouldn't want to be redirected on a flight like that simply because the 747 has so much more range than most aircraft.

  • Oh thats informative. Thnx. :)

  • I'm kinda curious, umm, "What does the retraction of flaps do for the aircraft?"

  • the flaps allow the plane to fly more slowly when it takes off, but they also make the plane slow down if its going fast. When the plane accelerates to cruise speed they aren't needed anymore so they retract.

  • You're kinda right. The flaps create more lift during low speeds by extending the shape of the wing and thus lowering the stall speed. They do slow and help maintain a safe approach speed but it's not the primary "braking system". We retract flaps in segments after take-off at giving speeds the aircraft passes through so that with wings clean, there is minimal drag and maximum efficiency and range.

  • it keeps the aircraft airborne at low speeds

  • dam for those of you that have been on a 747 idc what class your in, you guys are lucky. i have never ever been on one and i really want to. idc what class i get as logn as i fly on the 747 im happy cheers great vid!!

  • hiii!! i'm a spanish girl and in one month i'm travelling to sydney in this plane, so i would like to know if the seats have tv or not(i'm in the tourist class), and what is the plane like inside, becouse i'm travelling myself during 30h (spain - australia) and i'll really get bored

  • Hey how'd your trip to Australia go? Did you enjoy the flight?

  • I flew this route in 1999 lax-syd,47-4, grueling

6 bad films.crappy pillows piisy beer....oh I bought an overpriced Swiss Army watch from the In-flight duty free. crapped out on me the second I jumped in the water in Bondi.

  • it was taken by Matt Smith from Imperial Hill, you were on VH-OED.

  • I doubt that. It looks too low of an angle to be from Imperial, and the Bradley terminal building in the background isn't in the right place.

  • How can You tell if its your plane or not?

  • That wing flex is orgasmic.

  • I've done Los Angeles to MELBOURNE (h8 sydney) like heaps of times. I love QF26 via Auckland.

  • I flew from LA to Sydney about a year ago... man, that was an awesome journey. Passing over the internation dateline was like traveling through time!

  • wicked...killer. thrilling/exhilarating. still the feel of my stomach going on take off lol...just sitting here on the laptop

  • 15 hrs to Sydney? Must have had a strong headwind!

  • all aircraft are cool even the real ugly ones. The most I have enjoyed on all the flights I have been on is the appreciation of just being there in relation to the world moving under foot and the nearness to god one feels who or what ever one believes in and the noises of precision hydraulics and electronics, all seem to me to be as great as any art form its the spirit of human precipitation ,cooperation all the completeness to be doing what ever we can to understand our world we live in.

  • you summed up the way i feel when im flying very well...

  • How can you enjoy flying? When I hear any sound of any hydraulics I piss my pants of fear.

And the take off is most scaring, I always get a feeling of that the plane is running to slow to take off, and that we're gonna crash when we're like 5 meters off the ground xD HAHA ^^

  • Klash91, go have a cry to your mummy.

  • It's not from the plane. The other plane is only just behind your left wing on Qantas. Even the nearest Cockpit window couldn't have gotten the full picture of your plane. :)

  • I doubt that picture was taken from another plane. Its the typical angle the planes taking off from 25R are shot. The person was probably standing on the hill in El Segundo. Great video btw!

  • yeah i think you are right, because you can kinda see runway 25L in the picture, so it couldn't have been taken from a plane on runway 25L

  • Great Footage with the World Safest Airline in th world!

    Well Done.

  • I thought El Al was the world's safest airline!!!

  • the interior of these planes are sooo old though :{

click on my name to view my australian airline videos

  • most airlines have reffited their 747s with the lattest entertainment systems

  • Love the 747! Long live the queen!

    Great video!

  • I agree. I also love it even though I never flew on one before, but I want to. Awesome video.

  • Its the coolest experience, I wish I could fly a 747 more often!

  • The Boeing 747 is more graceful then the A380. The A380 looks like an bloated whale.

  • I reckon! The a380 is really ugly, the 747 will forever be the queen, no matter what.

  • I totally agree with both of you. I can't wait to fly the B744. (wanna be pilot for QANTAS)
