Its weird, but cool at the same time, the plane looks like a Volaris one, but I dont think that someone of that plane took it because it looks very far, and the plane was near.
I completly agree with you mate. My brother is a commercial pilot. I would be too but not very good at mathematics and physics. Amasing these things are powerful enough to be able to take off
you don't need a very much mathematics today because most of them are done by computers, you don't need very much of physics unless you plan to design a newer aircraft but the thing you need to know is the weight of this aircraft and the pound of thrust because if you taking this 747 400 ER on a short flight you need very less fuel because it reduce the weight of this plane.
@sideslide23 yea but computers makes errors as well. u have 2 recheck that the data and formulae are right. a single error can lead to a potential flaw
WOW!!!! we were on the same aircraft... well not exactly, I had arrived from Sydney that morning on probably this same aircraft... and from our videos we sat in the same seat! that's funny, which means we probably were in the same terminal. Did you depart out of the American airlines terminal because that's where we arrived?
Thats cool! I don't remember what terminal it was, it was too long ago and I've since made another trip to australia so I might be confusing the terminals with that trip.
These 747400's are beautiful when I see them take off but the A340-300's are nice and quick. The A340-500 has a much better spool up sound. I Really enjoy your videos mate.
The LAX-SYD route is about the limit of what a 744 can do. For the westbound route, because there is often a headwind, the A/C is often weight restricted.
Because of the range, the A/C is essentially carrying a full load of fuel, which makes it VERY heavy. A 744 will typically rotate at a ground speed of about 150-175 MPH (statute) on a transatlantic flight. However, on my last SFO-SYD flight, we were over 210 MPH (statute) when we rotated. And then the plane climbs like a lead brick.
@MikeGinny I remember when Philippine airlines used to fly to london they use the B744, and the flight was 16 hours and 53 mins(straight flight) LAX to Sydney is about 14-15 hours.
I've been on 4 long flights. When I was 6 I went on Untied Airlines from San Francisco to Sydney and back. I don't remember any entertainment. The last 2 was when I was 10 or 11 going from San Francisco to Hong Kong on Singapore Airlines(best airlines ever in my opinion). There was like an 8" screen on the back of the chair and a remote. You can watch TV and play games but they are pretty lame. Sleeping can be hard too. Some airlines have flatbeds in First class and maybe even Business too.
I don't think the picture at the end was taken from the airplane. The other plane is sitting on runaway 25 Left, but the still picture shows 25L in the foreground. So how could a passenger on a plane sitting on 25L take a picture with a camera (which was using a long telephoto lens btw) showing runway 25L?
It's more likely someone either on the airport grounds or standing behind the fence on Imperial Highway took that picture.
Damn, you're so correct. The original 747s can't reach KLAX, the longreach -400ER can. Do they still use RB211 engines, or more effecient PW4062s? xD
the original -400s still can reach KLAX from YSSY no problems. The new 400ers aren't using the RB211s anymore. I believe you're right that they are using the PWs now.
Hehe sorry about KLAX. 6900 NM is alot to cover for the might old "Queen". I must say, I've started to fall in love with PW4062 engines. Quiet, efficient, uses less fuel. Most of the 747s in the cargo division today, uses PW engines. Whilst Singapore still use PW on their commercial routes.
Yes they can! The original 747-400s can reach LAX without any problems whatsoever. They have a range of over 7000 nautical miles. The -400ers have a bit longer range, but Qantas was doing LAX-SYD with 747s nonstop without any problems whatsoever. In fact, the 747-200 I believe can cover the route as well...the 747-100 falls just 800 miles short of being able to do it.
wel say the los angeles area had a massive storm and planes couldnt land, that developed after the plane took off from sydney, youd want to hope theres a safe airport within 500 miles of you otherwise the standard 747 wouldnt make it.
Actually, when I made my comment, I forgot to take into account that the measurement I made between Sydney and Los Angeles was in regular miles, not nautical miles. In nautical miles, a 747-400 has about 600 extra miles of fuel on it, so if it were redirected, you might have some room. With most aircraft, you wouldn't want to be redirected on a flight like that simply because the 747 has so much more range than most aircraft.
the flaps allow the plane to fly more slowly when it takes off, but they also make the plane slow down if its going fast. When the plane accelerates to cruise speed they aren't needed anymore so they retract.
You're kinda right. The flaps create more lift during low speeds by extending the shape of the wing and thus lowering the stall speed. They do slow and help maintain a safe approach speed but it's not the primary "braking system". We retract flaps in segments after take-off at giving speeds the aircraft passes through so that with wings clean, there is minimal drag and maximum efficiency and range.
dam for those of you that have been on a 747 idc what class your in, you guys are lucky. i have never ever been on one and i really want to. idc what class i get as logn as i fly on the 747 im happy cheers great vid!!

How can you enjoy flying? When I hear any sound of any hydraulics I piss my pants of fear.
And the take off is most scaring, I always get a feeling of that the plane is running to slow to take off, and that we're gonna crash when we're like 5 meters off the ground xD HAHA ^^
It's not from the plane. The other plane is only just behind your left wing on Qantas. Even the nearest Cockpit window couldn't have gotten the full picture of your plane. :)
I doubt that picture was taken from another plane. Its the typical angle the planes taking off from 25R are shot. The person was probably standing on the hill in El Segundo. Great video btw!
he was not in that plane because you v1 when u pass the plane and the photo shows you that he is way infront of the plane so yep
