I kept getting this ending primarily because I'd gotten to be plenty wealthy in the Zone by killing enemies, gathering up their leftover weapons, and selling them. Somehow that translated to my guy being obsessed with wealth. Screw that! I needed all of that money to keep myself in ammo and medkits! That's not being greedy; it's pragmatism! SCREW YOU, WISH-GRANTER!

so you go through the whole fucking story, get shot from every angle and have tons of blood loss, to getting irradiated like shit and all this just to have a roof fall on you...great ending

Strelok says he wants to be rich, but rich is an extremely subjective idea. The ending is supposed to show you that money's value is artificial, and that there are many different ways of being "rich".

This is said to be the false ending, however it seems to be most simillar to the ending of the book ( Picnic at the roadside ) - the same banal ending, yet showing human true nature very well... this is why i believe this should be the true ending ( or in fact all bed enings of Monolith ) as it passes in the best way what Strugatsky brothers wanted to tell us in their story...

My theory:remember when barkeeper told about monolith and said that it maybe exists,and these who said that saw it went crazy...I think that stalkers who searched it went crazy becouse of this psi-radiation etc...so same happened to strelok,when he came there was no monolith,it was his imagination becouse he went crazy...look at the last sceene...he is under all that metal and there behind,there is no monolith...thats the real scene what happened...please reply to correct mistakes at my theory

Still I don't understand how the wish granter works. Are all these bad ends result from not defining a bit better what you want? Or is it just that the wish granter just gives a way negative endings for everyone? Though when you go scouting around the Zone no one tells about someone who made it through the Wish Granter and had his wish granted just as he wished.

the wish granter is a trick, placed in the NPP to lure all that get too close to discovering the truth behind the zone to their death. it kills everyone that uses it
