This simply can't compare to the version on "Buddy Miles Live" album. The groove that Buddy lays down is so smooth and solid. This guy is way too busy and doesn't hit the snare nearly as hard. Buddy had the NASTIEST 2&4 in the business. No tips on his stcks. Just butt ends. I saw his band so many times it's ridiculous. However, sometimes Buddy didn't pay the guys. I'd run into them at a jam in Culver City after a show at the Whiskey, and they were bitchin' and moanin'. But what a band.
@paupur he ALWAYS paid me, usually more than he told me i would get. i also heard the last band he called the BME talk about getting paid well for a tour that Buddy made nothing on. he paid them out of his own pocket. he was (at least in his last years) the most giving , sweetest, most generous person ive ever met.
Wow...It is great to get to see this after so many years! I have always loved this cut! What a great band! David Hull, you rocked it ( as a bass player I do appreciate that)!
Buddy represented for every singing drummer on the planet. Theres nothing better than seeing him play and sing this at the same time. He showed us all how to do it...
I absolutely love this song! Thanks for uploading this 'Sirri3' also does anyone know if this song is on MP3 anywhere I can't find it! I have the album 'We Got to Live Together' and the original version smokes as well Charlie's solo is ridiculous...
That's Buddy up front, singing. The drummer here, Fred Allen, was around for about a year, in 70 - 71, to allow Buddy to get out from behind the drums once in a while, and he did a superb job. Sometimes they both played drums at once, which was also great. For the record, this clip was played completely live, no doctoring or repair work done later.
The band is; Charlie Karp-guitar, Marlo Henderson-guitar, David Hull(myself)-bass, Fred Allen-drums, Hank Redd-tenor, Stemsie Hunter-alto, Tom Hall-trpt, Michael Fugate-trpt. I don't see a keyboard player here but I know Andre Lewis was on this tour, playing B3. Almost all of these guys have had remarkable careers. For example, I've just released a solo CD & video - check out my single, Pay Some Attention, on You Tube, you'll see the influence this music has had on my work. What a band!
The guitarist in the black shirt tearing up the solo is Charlie Karp and the bass player is David Hull. Charlie and David were teenagers when Buddy Miles came to play a show in Westport CT. As the story goes he lost/fired his guitar and bass players just days before the show and quickly had to arrange for local musicians to take their place. Both were kids in their late teens and went on to tour with Buddy, opened for Hendrix, etc... Google them. Both have had great careers!
Is that james Gadson on the drums? Or is that Fred Allen, the guy who played with Buddy in the early seventies in the records? He used to play with guy named Bobby Berge later, but he was white.
@sakkemule That's Fred Allen on drums. Bobby Berge did record with Buddy at the Record Plant in Hollywood and played with the band for a brief stint in 1975.
OMG - this is one of my fave BM tunes!! Wow, never seen this - Charlie Karp is one bad boy man, I always though his solo on the recorded version of this was just flat out SICK and he kills it live too!! - Who's the drummer that dude is kickin' !! Is that the famous drummer for Bill Withers JAMES GADSON?? Looks like him - whoever posted this vid thank you every much it has inspired me for the day!!!
I was the roadie and this video is a super performance and a great audio job. Charlie was a natural young guitarist following Jimi Hendrix playing with Buddy in the Band of Gypsys. Got any more?

@lowend100 You're a bad man. The Buddy Miles Live Album should be course material for bass curriculums at every music school.
