The way I understand it, the girl made the accusations. In a nutshell, she was offered a photo shoot by Polanski for the French edition of Vogue. (Which I guess is the Hollywood equivalent of offering a kid candy). Her mother allowed it. During the shoot, he allegedly gave her champagne laced with quaaludes. And against her will, engaged in deviant sexual intercourse. She was 13 at the time of the allegations. He plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and then fled the country.

This woman has no idea what she's talking about. I don't defend what Roman Polanski did, but even the victim of the original crime feels that this extradition and trial is unnecessary. There was significant judicial misconduct in Polanski's case, which doesn't exonerate him, but it's time for everyone to move on from this. MSNBC should make sure their pundits know what they're talking about before putting them on the air.

When I heard the news I was shocked to say the least. Roman Polanski is one of my favorite directors.
This is the way I look at it. The victim of the incident is 42 now. She wants the case thrown out. She wants to move on with her life. It's wrong for the Government to get involved and become a third party of an incident that does not involve them.
This has nothing to do with the security of the people of Sweden.
France at least had to guts to speak out against this case.

The OJ Simpson verdict or Michael Jackson verdict have nothing to do with what we're discussing. What we are discussing is a fugitive being brought back for trial. Not whether the system succeeds or fails. I may or may not agree with the verdicts of those cases but the fact remains that win or fail, both of those guys still went to trial and faced the music. Polanski has not. He took the easy way out and the law caught up. Venom? No. Simple fact.
