Holy Smoke! What planet did she drop out from? I've wasted 45 years studying and performing on the classical guitar only to be blown away by a 15 year old kid. What a player!!!
Me pongo de pie ante magistral interpretación, puedo observar que el maestro Francisco tarrega plasmó en esta pieza sus conocimientos y técnicas propias ampliando asi los bellos sonidos de la guitarra, bravo por esta pieza e interpretación.
You say Jonas Brothers, I say Frédéric François Chopin
You say Justin Bieber, I say Franz Liszt
You say Taylor Swift, I say Antonio Lucio Vivaldi
Hardly anyone listens to classical music regularly. There are only a few of us left. Let us make life the best as the intellectual few whom appreciate real talent.
Jie Li = Belleza, virtuosismo y perfección. Si Tárrega, desde el mas allá, la viera tocar, se sentiría orgulloso de que su obra la interpreta un ángel aquí en la tierra.
I respect technique, but I think lifting it above expression holds classical music back. Most classical music is mostly a tech-demo of skill, and less the creation of beauty.
I wish I didn't have to skip 75% of the 'classical guitar' vids on youtube. I certainly can't jump around a scale like these amazing people can, but that doesn't mean I want to listen to scales over and over.
@doubleKlutch Did you even study this piece.... Read Tarrega's intentions for writing this piece... besides there are lots of expressiveness in this piece she is playing, why are you even saying that there isn't much expression, there is just the right amount, great dynamics, articulation, some good use of rubato and change of timbre, no less, no more. Pleasing to the ears and to the heart. Playing with good technique dosn't mean it is not expressive!(This is most people's problem)
@CNFrostXY You might notice I retracted further into the piece. You might also notice that it was a comment regarding most classical-guitar-available-on-youtube, which I still stand by.
I also still sand by the early scales in the beginning as being uninspired filler.
And I disagree that an audience has to 'study' music in order to appreciate it. If it takes a trained musician to 'understand' the piece, then it fails to connect with the roots of the human experience, and is.. only technical.
@doubleKlutch sadly the truth is most pieces will take some study into the piece, not neccessarily in the musicality of it though, but the life of the composer who wrote it or even at the time he wrote the piece or the reason he wrote the piece, these are what the common audiences need the most. while for musicians, perhaps more specific technical things can be related to stories, and the use of different frequencies can also contribute. They are parts of human psyche.
@CNFrostXY Sadly, the truth is, most pieces are not good enough to be powerful without studying. Study is a crutch, and is evidence only of classical music's insistence to focus on technique over emotional delivery. I'm not saying classical music is never powerful, only that it often dilutes it's emotional power with superfluous, gaudy, pretentious complexity.
This piece is not so bad, so it's the wrong video to be having this argument. I invite you to have the last word; I'm done.
@doubleKlutch I think you're both right. A piece does not need to be studied to be appreciated. However if you want to fully understand the piece, & appreciate *more* in a different way, studying is needed. However, I believe you are quite wrong on classical music valuing technique over emotion. Classical composers used "expression markings", denoting the feeling with which the certain part should be played with. These markings are purely emotional notes that tie into the complexity of the piece
@jgilp no in an documentary about her on a chinese tv channel she said that her parents were not down with the fact that she played guitar and that she struggled for her dream.
@jgilp Just please tell which famous musicians in the world HAD a "normal" childhood. On the one hand you enjoy the music and are fasinating how talented they are, on the other hand it seems that you feel sorry for them because they lose their childhood.
So what's your point? I mean you hope that a person can play at this level without sacrificing something? Have you ever heard of "No pay no gain?" I don't understand you...........
You are free to state your opinion. But please! Not this naive.
@vampierkill It seems good to me only if the musician has chosen this way freely (and it seems she was). Not if the child is bound to study. I'm sure there are parents like this.
@jgilp Yes lots of musicians chose to play an instrument but they do have to be comitted to practice it nearly all day long. You can't expect "Genius" in this real world who can just pick up and play without the work, it's only in fantasy stories. I'll give you an example if you can't understand, if you want to pursue in research in astronomy, you have to work for it extremely hard, compete with others, and have barely any free time. Same thing...

@SoullessOpeth I wanna see you post a video in youtube with at least one scratch less then Li Jie's interpretation and about the same quality. Then I can say that you can criticize her as much as you want. But so far, I bet she has one of the best and cleanest interpretations today and an interpretation far better than yours. Well, that's until you prove urself better than her.
@bananapeelificationz I didn't criticize anything, it's just that the word "perfect" is completely subjective. No one ever will master a guitar, ever, therefore, no one will ever play perfectly. I hate that word. Nothing's perfect in this world. I stay firm on my comment. Open up your ears, people. Nobody can master any instrument.
You only hate the word perfect because you have low-self esteem. Be as perfect as you can be... She played it perfect. Why hate the word? Nothing's perfect right, nothing is an utopia. If you say no one can master any instrument, then fuck you sir. Because I'll practice/play the guitar/piano till the day I die... A master of playing, doesn't mean perfect, not at all. Just they've mastered their technique. If you do play guitar and say you'll never master it, then good for you.
@SoullessOpeth I have listened to this song well in excess of 50 times and I usually just sit and absorb. I have NO idea what you are talking about with 'scratching sound' on the bass strings.
She misses a small number of her pinch harmonics, but I can't find a damn thing wrong with it anywhere else. You must be dreaming.
I don't think there is a clip of Li Jie where I haven't had to re-assemble my jaw at the end of it. I love Tarrega and this version is second to none. Beautiful piece!
Wouldn't mind seeing her play 'Estudio Brillante'. It would put the nail in my guitar playing coffin lol (joke - she's an inspiration!)
Wow, this is the most amazing piece I've heard so far...brilliant, she makes it look like it's another day at the office...even showing off every now and again. I've never heard a snaredrum-effect being played on a guitar...

I wonder if she writes her own music or just plays other peoples.

I'm brazilien and I met lie for the youtube. Without a doubt it is treated of a cut jewel, however ignored at many countries, mainly in South America.
I would like to communicate with her

Sorprendente! Su ejecución es bastante buena, no a la altura de un maestro como Narciso Yepez, pero no ha dejado de parecerme una gran ejecución.

Escellent technique and interpetation of Gran Jota I give it A+.
I would buy this and other music from Li if I find out how.

She looks bored! lol
Ah..chinese, great skill, but they do seem to have difficulty "feeling" the music.
Segovia may not have the technical proficiency moderns do, but he had colors, he had expression, interpretation...he was an artist.
Ok, no Segovia bashing!!
ciao

Close your eyes, don't let the appearance fools you :)
Do we Asian people look like we don't have any feeling? Or just because we don't have blond hair or blue eyes?
I'm not Chinese, I don't speak Chinese, and I don't really like Chinese people, but I really love this guitarist and her "boring" style :)
Li Jie, you rock!

I really appreciate female guitarist. They can perform as great as men can. Her hand size is small, but she can play it well though. Really impressed. =)
