  • That's just a legendary jam thx for the upload pls keep em coming

  • Giants once roamed the Earth. Not just Jaco, who is simply unbelievable, but the entire band. Legendary.

  • And a hybrid of ashton kutcher and jesus on congas!

  • Man, I wish I had been old enough to have seen this sort of stuff on T.V...

  • That jump at 2:00 is epic!

  • would be epic if they recorded in 5.1 =.='

  • LOL!!.. I love his funny walk!!..Short steps!!.. So him!!

  • Love this piece!!!!

  • Jaco, I love you.

  • I cant even play this song full speed yet and here Jaco is playing it faster than the recording with ease. How I envy his skills

  • C'mon! I'm sure there's over 1 million bass players in the world!!

  • Still amazing after 34 years! No one does this type of ultra-progressive cool jazz anymore. Am I wrong?

  • @OneMetaphysician You're wrong. Try Gentle Hearts with Greg Howe and Paul Chambers doing Punk Jazz.

  • @Frisbieinstein Isn't it Dennis Chambers?

  • @OneMetaphysician your r so not wrong

  • @OneMetaphysician Check out Dirty Loops, right now they only have amazing covers of shitty pop songs on youtube but they have originals coming out soon!

  • @minyou12 duuuuude, they're sick. you can DL there shit on soundcloud also. they're the jam!

  • :44 Joe zawinal sits on a whoopee cushion

  • amazing!

  • jacos great but look at the dude on the congos, he's killin it!

  • One of my favorite bands of all time

    One of my favorite bassist

Anyone interested in new fusion artists?

  • This video was my first experience of Jaco and Weather Report.Watched on TV loooong time ago.I remeber clealy what I felt.and it never changed.and will not.Happy Birthday,Jaco.

  • Is there a "Jaco workout"? JP burns alot of calories strutting around on the stage - awesome!

  • @berman3313 that and a lot of drugs too

  • long feet long di... and longer groooooooooveee!!!!

  • Wow what a great video they're just ripping. I can almost taste the cocaine sliding on the back of my throat when I look at Jaco!

  • I doubt Jaco hated the doubling since its the way he wrote the song.

  • @jazzguyva

The original version on "Heavy Weather" wasn't doubled. Neither were any of the first dozen live versions on the subsequent tour.

  • NICE!!! there is a Latin Jazz Fusion band in New York that is called Afromantra, they have some WR influence.... there is song.. 11:11 Spirit, check it out!

  • Whew!! They sped it up a little bit. Hang on tight!

  • WHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? JACO IZ GOD

  • damnnn zawinul and jaco are LOCKED

  • @ak47dragunov

Yeah. Perfect synchronization. I'm hella impressed.

  • Jaco must have HATED Zawinul doubling his bass the entire song!

  • Comment removed

  • @Frisbieinstein #1 Joe is totally doubling the melody #2 That's not Airto. It's Manolo Badrena

#3 It IS bad as fuck you are certainly right about that

  • @axischild71 Also you're half right about the doubling thing. The main head is but Jaco totally has some dive on the bass or something

  • @axischild71 lol reply to yourself

  • that bass is simply bitchin adn throbbing, i go through months of just playing WR, love their stuff, even towards the end there was some quality (except for Domino thingy, that's awful).

  • Learn this or die: When you are in the evil heart of your addiction, it seems like you can't concentrate creatively on your art. That's a chemical lie of the poison-substance you're taking. It has alienated you from your love, your art. The only way to beat this lie is to lay your art down, go into continual treatment WHILE discontinuing use. This you make a permanence. As you learn about the nature of addiction, you'll relearn true love, hate, and slowly pick your art up along the way.

  • how that mutha cud play this on a fretless i'll NEVER KNOW!!!

  • @1852Madras That's rather ignorant of you. For all we know, Burton may have been a fan of Pastorius. He was also tutored in classical and jazz music, so your dismissal of him is rather unfounded.

    Respect.

    C'est tout.

  • I could spend days listening to this... amazing...

  • BADASSSSS!!!!!!! (Y)

  • hahaha look at the smile on bedraina's (i dont think thats the right spelling) at 3:14. now u know where they got the picture of him to put in the booklet of this album

  • 0:08 Jaco's funky dance

  • God Jaco knows how to put a smile on my face every time I listen to him (:

  • the bass.

  • He only smiles cause its easy form him...

  • There were 4 people who tried to dance in the front row and wore out 3 pair of kneecaps.

  • Para mí y yo creo que para la gran mayoría de los músicos, no sólo bajistas; el más grande de todos, Jaco es insuperable!!!. Un gran tema y ejecución junto a los monstruos Shorter y Zawinul.

  • LOL 1:24 Epic!!

  • This song is so fucking bad ass! The percussion break down put's todays crappy club music beats to shame. People, let's get back to real dance music.

  • Really nice to have Badrena's percussion in there.

  • Im 11 and im learning this on bass. in otherwords my head is gonna explode

  • jaco is the best bass player i have heard ever. even though the synth covered him up it was still pheonomenal

  • His legs are aproximetly 27 feet long.

  • nice hat variety

  • Weather Report changed my musical tastes 180 degrees. Jaco, god rest your sweet soul.

  • @troutseeker1 weather report changed mine 360 degrees

  • SWAG

  • Get that keyboard off of my bass line!

  • Not arguing that this guy isnt absolutely freakin amazing, but the wow factor wears off after about 20 seconds and it gets a bit repetitive.

  • @GBeansauce You are fucking stupid

  • @maxmann1010 Insightful YouTube discussions as always...

  • @GBeansauce

You must be listening to something else?

  • YES!!!

  • does anybody notice how the begging of this song is the trombone/bass duet in the song "chicken scratch"?

  • jaco got that glow of coke on tha brain, brilliant stuff though, more please

  • Cliff Burton was metallica's only good bassist, and when he died he took the heart and soul of metallica with him.

  • I remember this show lo these many years ago and I was mesmerized by the sound of it all. Jaco was always a personal fave of mine. And of course I was crestfallen upon hearing of his death. It is fitting that Zawinul took some of the responsibility for this tragedy in an interview. He says that Jaco was a complete teetotaler and that he coaxed him to take that first drink. Being a Finnish ancestry meant 2 things, either drink to excess or not at all. But he, with his mental frailty, drank.

  • Saying that Cliff Burton is better than Pastorius is similar to say that Herman Li is better than Hendrix.

Of course I'm not saying that the best metal bassist of all time (Cliff Burton ) is a buffoon like Herman Li, i only make a apology.

Cliff burton was a SICK bass player, but simply Jaco is in another level.

  • Rimarranno nella storia. Grandissimi!!!!

  • thumbs up if you like Weather Report-Teen Town

  • @sexykatie90 Nice attempt at thumbs up there.

  • Il più grande bassista del mondo ancora adesso e per sempre!

  • What the shit?! This guy's playing this line while dancing and smiling!! I have to meditate beforehand and beat my bass into submission before I can even play it half right!

  • i think this is about 10 bpm faster than the original . . . insane.

  • Jaco - "The Greatest Bass Player Who Ever Lived"

As much respect as I have for Burton, Burton has NOTHING on him

  • People, I'm joking. "Cliff Burton is way better", wtf?

  • @NorwegianCheesecake Ohhh good! :) Nice Username by the way, 'tis cool :D

  • Comment removed

  • try take a look at jaco at 00:09 i love it :P

  • I think Green Day bassist is better

  • @BOnEhEAdD ahahahahahaha what a joke

  • @Beauford13 aw ppl arent buying it, its been 2 days and no thumbs down :(

  • @BOnEhEAdD <<<<<<<This Guy...........(SMH)

  • @jabaltar84 o.o wah?

  • no doubt....... they are very talented musicians.........

  • Saw then live in my teens and I am now 51...fantastic...!!

  • @NorwegianCheesecake Listen, mr. Cheesecake, I love Metallica (especially the first line-up) too, but you cannot dare to compare them both. Theirs are waaay too different styles :)

  • @NorwegianCheesecake i weep for the future

  • @NorwegianCheesecake

Heavy Metal is not dead, it just smells funny.

Note that I am quoting liberally Frank Zappa LOL

  • @NorwegianCheesecake is like comparing Cristiano Ronaldo and Schumacher ... two different genres and two different times .... but they are both monsters

  • @NorwegianCheesecake Haha that's hilarious!

  • @NorwegianCheesecake this guys got more soul i think

  • @NorwegianCheesecake

i think u r abit racism against fretless bass

  • @NorwegianCheesecake Cliff had a nack for distortion and crazy stuff... Jaco has a groove that no one has been able to fulfill except for Jaco himself. They both are unique, and upon that truth; they cannot be compared. They stand at the top together, not against each-other.

  • @NorwegianCheesecake Buahah FALSE!!!!

  • This song would be the best if my parents didn't think I'm watching porn every time I play this.

  • 45 people don't like this?.... WTF????..... they are deaf , blind and ignorant I guess....

  • @icumsludge

It was not meant as a put down, just a generality, you are rare, maintain that and you will reach the goals you desire

  • Dat Bass.

  • Jaco is a total freak of a bassist.

  • This is like the Bassist's anthem! Well this and or Portrait of Tracy lol

  • I love Eather Repor.

  • i feel this song could be in a super smash bros level

  • @METALandRAPsucks Do you mean by it that this song is 1up?

  • @bloodyfountain What i mean is that this song is beast

  • @bloodyfountain

It's soo hot that the song could shoot fireballs too :)

  • @YklausK Hahaha! ^^

  • @METALandRAPsucks super smash had some pretty crazy jazz rock haha!

  • @METALandRAPsucks For the N64 and Wii hell yea!!

  • @METALandRAPsucks It is like a falcon punch to the nuts.

  • @bloodyfountain, thank you uploading "real" "good" music, those complaining about the vid quality, are young and don't know how to use their ears

  • @bassmann1955 You're welcome, man!

  • @bassmann1955 I agree Brotha. I'm a ypungster and i actually prefer older physical formats of music. Not todays overproduced type of audio. I love when you drop the needle or pop in a cassette and you can "hear the silence". that almost hissing sort of silence

  • @bassmann1955 i was born in 92 but i am definitely not a dumb ass wo claims and blames the audio of this vid because of their musical incapacity

  • Jaco reppin the Phillies! Alright!!

  • I like to play this along with my bass and pretend I play every note right :)

  • when jaco came in.. jesus christ he is disgustingly good

  • JACO・PASTORIUS IN TEEN TOWN GEATEST ! GREATEST WEATHER REPORT

  • @blackandtanful Much prefer 'Havona' on Heavy Weather over Teen Town.

  • @Coowallsky Havona sure is a good track

  • Video quality, came on, this is from 1977! enjoy and stop complaining!

  • @LarvaVengadora Gracias por entenderlo. De todas maneras, no lo grabé yo :)

  • @bloodyfountain me imagino, pero en esa epoca no existía el video digital, las grabaciones generalmente no son mucho mejores que esta.

  • the 42 dislikes are for Jacos pants :)

  • Classic. Every bass player MUST learn this. Are we clear

  • @Listendudeok yessir, crystal

  • @sailorirl ;-)

  • He is smiling the whole time. Thats what I love about Jaco. He loved what he did. R.I.P. I hope to someday be as half as good as you Mr. Pastorius.

  • Man...saw these guys....with THIS amazing lineup...in Vancouver Canada in the 70's when I was a 14 yr old kid. Just as incredible as you'd expect!! Brilliant performances from the entire band. Larry Coryell was the opening act!!! What a show!!! ~KK

  • Any thing worth the rewards of achieving takes some effort .Even to the listener. If some of the dislikes were to listen to W.P's music open minded and in an advanced state of awareness would quickly aquire a the taste for rich food

  • listen to the studio version after this and you will feel so slow

  • @xaiesque12 me

  • loving the phillies cap

  • i swear, nothing has ever hit me like the opening bass lines to this composition, straight attitude, flavor, in your face funk and everything great. i keep showing this song to different people and they're like oh yeah, thats cool.. but my god, the opening bass lines to teen town are bad ass as hell, raw, confident, in your face, this is me, no one else, jaco mother-f, this is my language, the way i speak it.. daymn.. i want to find someone who LOVE these opening bass lines as much as i do

  • @xaiesque12 me :-)

  • @xaiesque12 the marcus miller video version of this song is amazingly dope too

  • Looks like they were trying to do the short version, and Jaco wanted to keep going. Ha ha!

  • foda de mais!!!!

  • vai tomar no meu cu!!!!

  • idk i just can't get into jaco his sound has to much mid range for my taste.

  • THE MASTER!!!!!!! No one will ever touch what he did for the instrument!

  • @robp74 Don't know about the master part.

  • epic jump at 2:02

  • @terrykumar More of a "dramatic turn into a super-ninja tiger-killing stance" than a jump. Still fucking epic, though.

    Also:

    1) Epic bass body rotation in time with the music at 2:10

    2) Epic Phillies hat/rugby shirt combo by Jaco

    3) Epic pimp conga solo at 3:05

    and finally...

    4) Epic "WE'RE DOING THE SHORT VERSION FOR TV JACO!!" cutoff ending by Joe Zawinul

  • @WhatTheFlyinFudge lol as a response to number four, it shows that jaco doesn't care where he's at....he wants atleast a 10 minute jam session haha, he was all about the music. any time any place.

  • nice skills

  • SUCH A BEAST!!!!

  • I saw GOD last Night AKA Mr Gone aka Mr Weird AKA Doc Strange's Brother aka Wayne Shorter @ Town Hall in NYC - if you were not there you wish out- He will be a Duke University Friday Feb 11th - See The Master AKA God before he really is Mr Gone....

  • FUCK YEAH!!!:D

one of the most difficult bass lines EVER!!

    it's perfect!!!!!

  • He (Jaco) opened the door that allowed all the rest of the electric bass players in the world to walk through. A true GIANT of music in the 20th Century. Jaco lives, in all of us who loved his playing and his music. He's been gone almost 25 years, he died in 1987. Wow. Gone but NEVER forgotten.

  • This is my favorite rendition of Teen Town. Jaco is simply amazing, and I love the conga solo at the end. Does anyone know where you can get the whole video of this concert? Thanks!

  • dude...that smile that jaco gives while playing that line....that's the pinnacle of bad ass

  • Dude... you can usually hear some notes that are a little off on the pitch, or that aren't attacked with the same energy in live performances but this one is P E R F E C T.

Seriously this is incredible, as I grow up I realise more and more about how amazing Jaco was.

  • Jaco in his prime! Awesome.....

  • How the fuck does this video have 42 dislikes?!?!?!

    Jesus... people these days.

  • @Silke1104 Because these people have no idea what music is anymore. They just open up a pattern scream a little verse chorus verse with worse than average guitar playing and try to call it music.

  • @1Eu4ic did you say about Manolo Badrena?

  • whoever said that's airto on percussion must not own heavy weather. his name AND picture are on the back of the album cover. his name is manolo badrena, asshole.

  • this is a song i just want to play but its too hard for me i love this song =)

  • bloodyfountain

  • This group is formidable

  • who is the guy playing congas?

  • @claudiomaracatu that would be Manolo Badrena i think

  • Comment removed

  • @1Eu4ic the percussionist's name is manolo badrena, NOT airto. airto must be the only percussionist people know of, his name is rattled off more often and in most cases FALSELY whenever the subject of percussion comes up, you asshole...
