but i do have to admitt by the derrick holmes fight i dont know if he had lost love for the sport or what but his head movement and reflexes faded by a large amount, he took more punches than usual in that fight and later on, the power in his left hook must have been unbeliveably powerful, he'd knock them senseless and the matter how many times id replay it id see him put no weight or hip on it, WOW!!!
alot of people dont see wilfredos overall skill to be a complete package, but i have to disagree i think he is EXTREMELY overlooked by his power and finishing instinct, because its clear to see he had amazing footwork, amazing head movement and reflexes that made him put a hit and odnt get hit fight beatufully, a technical boxer who used his left jab to measure his HUGE right, along with some body work and mean uppercuts and hooks, he WAS a complete package....

Boricua here. Gomez was great, but let's not make excuses for the Sanchez fight. It wasn't a lack of preparation, it was the fact that he moved up from 122 to 126 after the Zarate fight. Watch the fight closely and you'll see that he hit Salvador with many greats shots that had no effect on the bigger featherweight.
@manny1917 I agree with you a 100%. Gomez had gone up in weight to fight a natural bigger man. As devastating a puncher as Gomez was in the 122 lbs. He couldn't dent Sanchez at 126 lbs.
@AntonioSantiago You're wrong about that. The Sanchez fight is considered one of the "best ever" because it was the crowning glory of Sanchez' career,not because it was a war. It was a lopsided beating. Gomez didn't win a single round. I don't think this was a great fight at all. It was like a sparring session for Sal. Gomez is lucky he never had to face Chavez or he would've received a horrific beating.

As far as JCC goes,Yeah, you're right about 130,but you're info is wrong. JCC carried Abarca the first time to get rounds in as he was preparing for a championship fight. JCC knocked out Abarca in the rematch in the 4th or 5th round. Those fights were 135.

JCC was starving himself to death just so he could defend his title against Lockridge and LaPorte. I cant believe he was able to go to war with those guys with nothing in his tank,but that's Julio. Gomez would've had to come up to 130 and with Julio being the bigger man, the saying in boxing goes," a good big man will always beat a good little man.".

but i do have to admitt by the derrick holmes fight i dont know if he had lost love for the sport or what but his head movement and reflexes faded by a large amount, he took more punches than usual in that fight and later on, the power in his left hook must have been unbeliveably powerful, he'd knock them senseless and the matter how many times id replay it id see him put no weight or hip on it, WOW!!!

alot of people dont see wilfredos overall skill to be a complete package, but i have to disagree i think he is EXTREMELY overlooked by his power and finishing instinct, because its clear to see he had amazing footwork, amazing head movement and reflexes that made him put a hit and odnt get hit fight beatufully, a technical boxer who used his left jab to measure his HUGE right, along with some body work and mean uppercuts and hooks, he WAS a complete package....

Wilfredo Gomez ha sido opacado por la pelea que tuvo con mi compatriota Salvador Sanchez. Pero realmente fue un super campeon, de hecho en esa pelea que gano Salvador fue una mega pelea donde Salvador no se fue limpio. Me gusta la competencia que hay deportivamente. Creo que en estas dos naciones se han quedado los mejores boxeadores de la historia sin entrar en mas polemicas. Saludos.

Boricua here. Gomez was great, but let's not make excuses for the Sanchez fight. It wasn't a lack of preparation, it was the fact that he moved up from 122 to 126 after the Zarate fight. Watch the fight closely and you'll see that he hit Salvador with many greats shots that had no effect on the bigger featherweight.

@AntonioSantiago You're wrong about that. The Sanchez fight is considered one of the "best ever" because it was the crowning glory of Sanchez' career,not because it was a war. It was a lopsided beating. Gomez didn't win a single round. I don't think this was a great fight at all. It was like a sparring session for Sal. Gomez is lucky he never had to face Chavez or he would've received a horrific beating.

You are right about Gomez-Chavez at 130, but not at 122, when Chavez was being taken the distance twice by Benny Abarca!!

As far as JCC goes,Yeah, you're right about 130,but you're info is wrong. JCC carried Abarca the first time to get rounds in as he was preparing for a championship fight. JCC knocked out Abarca in the rematch in the 4th or 5th round. Those fights were 135.

JCC was starving himself to death just so he could defend his title against Lockridge and LaPorte. I cant believe he was able to go to war with those guys with nothing in his tank,but that's Julio. I do know Chavez didnt like Ricans but his son did tell me that they know they have a lot of fans in Puerto Rico too. Chavez was cold to me, which hurt (in fact I feel a bit sad now to read your confirming he does not like Ricans) because Chavez too was my idol.
