  • nice ballet !

  • Cid and Fred, this was Hollywood at its best. A lesson of art and elegance. I love it. A time that was unluckly gone....

  • Impecable danza de Cid y Fred

  • Let's just say.....Sublime!

  • Cyd Charisse, la mejor, como profesional y artista, hermosa mujer, todos sus trabajos fueron excelentes, este por su aparente simpleza, el mejor, el más bello.-

  • I wish I could have danced like Fred Astaire!!! Love this!!!

  • Exquisite!!

  • Simply perfection.

  • Le temps des grandes comédies musicale révolu......quel regret!

  • She even walks like a ballet dancer. So graceful. I love this. It's beauty.

  • @LCMac3 She is a ballet dancer. She studied and danced ballet until world war II slowed down the business.

  • Gene Kelly thought that this was the best couples dance he had ever seen.

  • the moment they first touch, after walking next to each other and then dancing without touching, for what seems like an eternity, is so beautiful...

  • The greatest dance scene I have ever seen. I would have given my right arm to have seen it performed live.

  • Cyd is beautiful

  • Pardon the heterosexuality, but what a magnificent woman!

  • At the top it says "no description available'. When it comes to Fred and Cyd no description was needed. Just watch and marvel

  • Cyd charisse

  • One of the greatest dancing numbers in history! The music is very important here. There's something so sad in it. It sounds almost as a "good by" to an era -- a great era that will never come back (I'm not sentimental, I'm realistic).

  • Sadly, this era is gone forever. It was so incredible to watch and the music,,,oh the music, so beautiful.

  • EPOCA DE OURO DO CINEMA , MARAVILHOSOS , PERFEITOS , COMO FAZIA BEM PARA NOSSA ALMA .

  • I love the parody that Steve Martin and Gilda Radner did of this. I first saw it when Martin hosted Saturday Night Live and Miss Gilda had died several days before and they showed it as a remembrance to her.

  • So romantic!

  • COMO JOIAS,COLOQUEI NO ORKUT,AO ALCANCE DE MINHAS MÃOS,UM MOMENTO,QUE SÓ DOIS,UM CASAL,COM EMPATIA,JOGO DE CINTURA,INTEGRADOS,NA MENTE E ALMA,PRODUZIRIAM,HA TEMPOS,QUE MESMO ASSIM,NÃO IMPORTA,POIS NÃO EXISTE IDADE,PARA O BELO,PARA O CONJUNTO,QUE BAILA,NO SILENCIO DO PARK,DEIXANDO PARA NÓS,POBRES MORTAIS,UM INSTANTE DE GLÓRIA,QUE NEM TODOS O SABEREMOS JAMAIS,POIS ,OLHOS,MUITOS NÃO TEM E,MESMO SE TIVESSEM,NÃO VERIAM COM OS OLHOS DA ALMA.LINDO!!!

  • Was it as good for you as it was for me?

  • Sigh....

  • No Haterz it a miracle! no one dances this way anymore. sad

  • I mean....Magical!! :) I'm still dancing with Fred.

  • Nagical!

  • Fred Astaire was once asked on a TV talk show who his favorite dance partner was. He replied that he loved them all but if he had to pick one it would be Cyd Charisse. One look at this and you can see why. They're both about 75% leg!

Also, the MGM studio orchestra sounds great here.

  • This is perfection

  • amazing

  • She is extremly sensual !!!!!!!

  • You know, even in the part in the beginning where they're just walking is graceful. I could watch those two just take a stroll... but then that lovely moment when Cyd sets off the dance, and Fred follows... wow.

  • Sencillamente perfecto mi favorito fred and cyd

  • My all-time favorite too! Thank you!

  • Even Gene Kelly said this was his favorite dance number of all time.

J'adore.

  • Beautiful! This is one of my favorite movies. Super cast, great director, fantastic story. And the end montage! its alll just amazing.

  • Beautiful!! Is this Gershwin's?

  • @lemansioma The composer was Arthur Schwartz.

  • Wonderful !!!

  • A perfect courtship dance. The end with them dancing up the stairs is all kinds of wicked. Even in ballet flats, Cyd had the longest, most exquisite legs on film.

  • People just don't go out for a night of dancing anymore (I mean REAL dancing) and it's a shame! Seems it's a lost art. :(

  • nooo....

    wheres ginger????

    jk.

  • like cream poured slowly over ganache. Warm, rich, beautifully smooth. Ginger who?

  • whatta dress..

  • Uh, I wish my mom never took me out of ballet.

  • Just lovely...

  • Whenever I watch this segment of "The Bandwagon", I will always think of Gilda.

  • Thank you for posting this excellent video.

I have chosen it as this week's featured video on my channel.

  • That was delightful.

  • I remember Steve Martin and Gilda Radner do this one LIVE on Saturday Night Live and

they managed to do it justice.

They just don't make them like this anymore and yes.....SHEER PERFECTION!

  • WOW.....

  • youyong28 mentioned that Gene Kelly said that this was the best dance ever filmed. I think Gene was right. This is so superb on a number of different levels as many other posters have thoughtfully brought out. Two masters at the top of their craft. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • Spectacular. Cyd Charisse, wonderful. And equal to Mr. Astaire... nobody.

  • This is one of those moments when all the years of training and honing the craft of each person involved in this production coalesces to produce this masterpiece. It is for the ages.

  • Que Estilo, Que Artistas Magnificos. Con Toda La Clase. Grandiosos, por todo

comcepto, Que Mas Se Puede Pedir; Son la Suma De Talentos.

  • Magique...

  • The most erotic (as opposed to pornographic) dance number ever filmed, to the music of one of the most philosphical/religious tunes ever written. (Read the lyrics, if you don't believe me.)

Dance as foreplay, dance as the ACT itself...

...and notice, as they get into the carriage, how...

    ...spent...

    ...they both are.

  • Indeed. If you wanted to explain the concept of "sublimation" to someone you could do worse than play this video. I still remember the shock of recognition when I first watched it at an age that allowed me to realize what was happening on screen, in plain sight. It was like suddenly receiving a message that had previously passed me by unnoticed. And then of course the very peculiar wistfulness in which my elders had always held Astaire and Charisse quite suddenly made perfect sense!

  • ha she even turns out in partner numbers like this ! Its truely beautiful! I wish that hollywood still produced amazing films like this=)

  • They almost levitated.....or did they?

  • Fred Astaire said "when you dance with Cyd Charisse, you stay danced with"!

She was a tremendous dancer in her own right. But every Astaire partner always looks like a great dancer with him. He knew it wasn't just about him but the beauty of the dance and the grace and beauty of his partner.

  • Grandes dançarinos, maravilhosos.

  • Simple, elegant, devastatingly beautiful and romantic. Love at first, second.... millionth viewing.

  • This all together, is great music, choreography, narrative, and execution....a mature and evolved expression in dance. The conversation starts here.

  • Actually, this might be the most famous of either dancer's repertoire. It was the only dance featuring Cyd in "That's Entertainment", and Gene Kelly said that it was the best dance ever filmed.

  • divine

  • .

    Beautiful...

    Beautiful...

    Absolutely beautiful...

    .

  • One of the sexiest dance numbers ever!

  • just totally wow!

    coraclewoman

  • Unforgetable ! Marvelous !

  • Hey, does anybody know where i can download this song? I just LOVE it

  • Hey, does anybody know where i can download this song? I just LOVE it

  • What can you say? So simple and yet so elegant. Pure class.

  • Lindo demais! Perfeito!!!

  • When was the last time something as beautiful and romantic was done. It's hard to remember. These days romance consists of two women kissing each other in the bathtub.

  • In case you have not heard, James Mitchell, who played Cyd Charisse's choreographer/boyfriend in this movie musical, passed away recenly.

  • Thank you for posting this little bit of Heaven.

  • Not the most famous of either dancer's repertoire or partners - but this is my favorite dance sequence of all time. We'll never see this particular blend of class and talent again. Thanks for posting it.

  • @sseklof your so right...in these hard times dancing like this makes your soul come alive

  • @sseklof

I agree 100%. There's something just marvelous and magical about this choreography.

  • @sseklof I agree with you! however I hope that maybe days like those might come again... perhaps not anytime soon, but maybe one day :)

  • @sseklof Yes, I agree.

  • One of the greatest dance ever...

  • They were both such beautifully elegant dancers-wow.

  • what movies have they been in together?

  • Lizzyvance: The Band Wagon and Silk Stockings.

  • Lovely. For another beautiful version, just type Ben Selvin Dancing in the dark 1931.

  • You said it.

    Have a happy Thanksgiving.

  • FRED AND CYD - ABSOLUTE PERFECTION...

    Thank you !

  • thanks for posting the longer version.

Watching The Bandwagon with Liza Minnelli and Michael Feinstein's commentary on really enriched the viewing experience, you pick up a lot about the history of all involved and about Broadway. BTW Bandwagon is both Liza and Michael's favorite musical, ever. Pretty awesome.

  • I love that you can see how she's walking in turn-out from the very beginning! She's by far the BEST ever!

  • And a magnificent film it is.

  • the movie is: "The Band Wagon"
