The second a projectile leaves a barrel, be it air propelled or powder, it starts to slow down not speed up. It's not a two+ stage rocket! Also the longer the barrel the faster velocity you get as well as accuracy because when the round is in the barrel it is being acted in by the propelling force. Like I said once it leaves the barrel it's no longer being pushed but being acted on by friction of the air.

@noobowners64 what usually happens with high speed pellets when fired, the pellet spins out of control and has no accurate point of penetration. What i mean exactly is, the pellet is spinning around in the air as soon as it leaves the barrels. the pellet hits the target while spinning, and it will still be moving inside the target it hit. that means it wont penetrate anything very well. the spinning of the pellet makes it stop as soon as it hits a target.

mate this is two way different bullets you are using. It defies the goal completely. the Gamo PBA is for long range shooting not made for blunt impact or penetration but much more for distance, If you want a Gamo to compare try the Gamo Expander or platinum series.....that would probably go through all the cans.

Most any dome shaped pellet and providing your air rifle has a lot of power then the heavier weights are better.

@glenr649 i use JSB Diablo pellets ranging from 18.1 to 25.4 grain! But guns react differently to different pellets i would try many different brands, types, and weights to see which perform best in your gun! Personally i would try heavier grain gamo, beeman, or jsb pellets because the heavier they are the more momentum they have so they penetrate farther, keep their velocity for a longer distance, and are less affected by wind. but keep in mind that using a heavier pellet the pellet drops more

well you have to take into account your firing point blank. the heavier ammo will have a greater drop and drag coefficient down range and if it gets to where youre shooting wont penetrate as much as the faster ammo. down range the faster stuff prevails......unless its windy. lol

If you read the label the Gamo says 25% greater velocity, not penatration. Velocity does not neccessarily equate to penatration. Better if you would have had a radar gun to determine speed.

Absolutely right. The pellet isn't at its highest velocity when it comes out of the barrel but when it is about 10 yards out of the pellet.

So if you want a good penetration test you should sit at about 10 yards away like angelmarth said.

promethius sn 1 pellets are heavy lead free pellets. the PBA and other light pellets besides skenco just dont perform well. some weight is needed so ultra light will not work and are dead power at long range shooting. for promithius check out airguns of arizona.

Remember fellow shooters, sectional density is always proportional to penetration depth. There are other variables that will effect penetration, such as yaw, projectile deformation, fragmentation, form factor, and velocity for sure. But the pellet with the higher sectional density will win out if all other variables are equal. This small test Tom performed justifies my statement perfectly :) If anyone has questions just PM me, I'd be more than glad to answer them!

@killing4sport you need to use lead pellets man. with oil on them i use gamo match grade hunters and target. if u use dry pellets in a gamo air rifle they will mess up the rubber O ring everytime you fire to much compression. the "wet" pellets allow the pellet to go easier. and sometimes the other pellets aren't exactly .177 they are a little to tight.
