  • Can't just use a constant voltage or constant current supply... Laser diodes have 3 or sometime 4 pins (in high output diodes) for feedback.

    Also, PLEASE READ laser safety info... These things will EASILY blind you... like.. POOF - Wow! Darkness! Look mom, I can't SEE!

  • The reason the balloon pops is because of the high power that is transmittet thru the laser is making the point it points at warm, and so hot it makes the balloon pop. Just like an needle.

  • Neat. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you shouldn't actually put your eyes anywhere near the laser. Should probably avoid having mirrors in the room while doing this too. Yup I'm a rocket scientist. With all the warning labels all over these drives, is there any concern about radiation or other health issues attempting something like this? Ok maybe I'm not such a rocket scientist after all.

  • It's only light, the only radiation is LASER radiation, a form of light. The only potential negative health effect is burning your eyes or your skin with that light.
