  • I don't know about any of you but this was the first dream theater song I heard and I was a fan ever sense then. It was something completely new to me when all that was playing on the radio was the end of grudge and start of emmo. They always sounded like a chaotic symphony not many bands have been able to achieve.

  • Their newest album SUX and that's because Portnoy left the band. If you enjoy it, good for you ;)

  • keys sound almost like wah-wah guitar... great! but I can't stand vocal

  • ToT isn't my favourite album but I like it much more than Awake. My favs are SOAM and SDOIT. Anyway, I shouldn't answer a mad teenager who still thinks his opinions are the best. Grow up and learn to respect ;)

  • Mike Mangini is a great drummer, who can say he isn't? But Portnoy was DT's soul. So DT is a soulless band now... And I see too many Kevin Moore fans here... who cares about him??? Rudess is much better than him. Btw, the new album SUX.

  • @EldarcSP Hahaha XD.You are such a noob...I bet your favorite album is Train of Thoughts....ADTOE is the best album since the I&W/Awake days bro,and Kevin Moore was a GREAT keyboarder/composer.Learn more about music before you wright trash on the internet.Cheers!

  • @EldarcSP stop talking shit. All those members who are their now have done successful solo work and are all at the top of what they do. To say they cant do anything without portnoy is a huge insult.

    Grow up.

  • @EldarcSP You're an idiot.

  • @EldarcSP The new album doesn't suck. You may not like, but it doesn't mean it sucks. It's your opinion, not the revealed truth. A Dramatic Turn of Events is a great album, IMHO.

  • @danitaly I respect your opinion. Mine is the new album sucks. Of course you might agree or not :)

  • Awesome Song, should be on the radio.

  • Damn just can't type 6:00 without the darn hyperlink!

  • Lol I was reading James Joyce's "Dubliners" today, and I stumbled across the intro lyrics for this song in the dialogue! "...6 o'clock on a Christmas morning - and for what?" - "What about the honour of God aunt Kate?" - "I know all about the honour of God Mary Jane!"

  • @mrscry That's your opinion, and your opinion isn't shared by all Dream Theater Fans... I myself happen to think that "A Dramatic Turn of Events" in its entirety is the best album that Dream Theater has come out with since "Images and Words." But I love this album as well (Awake)... And I love Mike Portnoy on drums, but never cared for his backup vocals... Mangini is just as skilled, gives Dream Theater a fresh new sound... And Kevin Moore is great, but I'm perfectly happy with Jordan Rudess...

  • Not just one of their top 3 albums, but my pick for #3 metal album of all time.

  • Great music!

  • Mind Blowing......Jus Cant get it out off my mind!!!

  • six six up

  • been listening to Dream Theater all my life, born and raised on DT and STILL LOVE IT!!! i am a huge Mike Portnoy fan tho, too bad he left...i'll still always support Portnoy and DT

  • I don't know? I still think hootie plays guitar the best.

  • So where's the other 26 seconds?

  • Comment removed

  • The song should be six minutes long.

  • James Joyce and Dream Theater in one piece? How can two of my favorite things exist in the same place?

  • 6:00 in Vancouver on Christmas morning here. Have a great day.

  • see ya next year 6:00 clock guys...

  • Merry christmas dream theater junkies......

  • It is

  • Six O'Clock on a Christmas morning... and for what?? XD

  • @ElRincondelaBruja From the film adaptation of James Joyce's "The Dead"

  • I nearly forgot to do this. But this was the year. Greetings from Boston guys. Sharing that DT peace and love at six o'clock on a Christmas morning!! \m/

  • I promised myself. I was going to listen to this song at the accurate hour. It means even more now. Love for y'all, RESPECT and REVERENCE for DT's work. Love for all of you and greetings from Colombia.

  • Six o'clock on a Christmas morning...

  • Well, I am listening to this, quite literally at six o' clock on a christmas morning.

  • Have this up on a tab ready and waiting. It's time to kick off this new Christmas with an old tradition!

  • I do it every fucking year! It's a custom in my household! Phoenix time! Off this very upload this year! Thank you...and thank you DT !

  • It's almost time.

  • @elliottpetterson Don't tell me you're another one that does this!

I did it last year but I wasn't planning on it, this year the same has happened because I can never sleep on Christmas night.

Well, I hope you have a good Christmas my friend, and have or have had a good six o'clock on a Christmas morning!

  • @MartinD6s Haha, my six o'clock on a Christmas morning was excellent, and the rest of the day went pretty well too. I hope yours was similarly enjoyable.

It's cool to see how popular this little tradition is.

  • 0:20

    Iron Maiden - The Prisoner

  • 6:00 yeah

  • I think it is necessary to listen to this song on Christmas morning :)

  • @ellybot1 At 6:00, no less.

  • I was about 16 or 17 when I discovered this album. Coming from a family who almost exclusively listens to rap and r&b, I drove my family crazy listening to this. I'm 26 now and I still think it's worth the alienation :)

  • my mobilephone was in a way strange and so my alarm clock startet in school suddenly... My class woke up and my teacher was schocked, but i was allowd to keep it :D after the lesson all classmates asked "what song was that?!" :D

sorry for my bad englisch x.X

  • Bought this album the first day came out and stayed home from a high school dance to listen to it. Still listen to it to this day.

  • 17:42

  • @Octavius2250 I'm quite sure they will compose a new song and name it 26 seconds.

  • I always listen to this for xmas. I don't know why ;D

  • What movieare the samples from?

  • I picked up this album (the first I'd heard from this group) at Wal Mart day after xmas and played it for days/weeks afterwards. Bought all of Dream Theater's stuff until 2000 while I was still interested in the metal/progressive rock genre.

This song has a special place in my heart. Blew me away. I was playing Zappa and Yes, Zeppelin, Rush, etc..with a cover band and it was great to see these guys take the reins and move forward.

  • blablabla i read it.

  • First Dream Theater song I ever heard, and Awake remains my favourite DT album - and one of my favourites by any band, ever.

Kevin Moore was always the member with the best lyrics and songs, and a genuine artistic vision. The others all make strong contributions and are brilliant instrumentalists, but Moore had a magic touch that they don't, and they've never quite been the same without him.

  • @robicenco1 I think I'm gonna have to disagree here.

I know that's your opinion, but I believe that yes, when Moore left there was something missing, but I believe that Sherinian filled in his shoes finely, and then when Rudess came in, Dream Theater were taken to all new hights! They didn't have to be the same as they were with Moore, think about it. Would you rather have Rudess and Sherinian not show their own style, so they can capture Moore's?

  • @White1Tiger2Dan Fair comment. I think DS is a brilliant keyboardist (pity they fired him eh...) and JR is also very talented, though he has some pretty ugly-sounding synths. Moore was less gifted as a musician than either of them - I just think his songwriting was exceptionally strong. Obviously he'd had enough by Awake (hence this song) so it was time for him to go anyway.

I just wish he was still making music in his old style, I guess.

  • @robicenco1 Hehe... I think JR just loves toying around with his gadgets. It's like his ultimate goal is to create "THE SOUND"!

  • @White1Tiger2Dan No, but with Sheridian it was a new DT. And with Rudess being so Rude he annoys people doing a fake guitar pickin' with the keyboard and continuum and takes all the nice out of DT. He should behave like in LTE. DT died too soon.

  • @morochodelor You actually think DT is dead? Look man, while I agree that Jordan pushes things a little too far at times, I honestly will say that I think he is one of the best things that happened to DT. The continuum may not sound as pretty as other instruments, but it has its own feeling. And he isn't faking guitar picking, what he picks is called a lap-steel guitar. I know this is your opinion, and I respect that, but here's mine. Rudess is a genius, and brought the incredible to DT.

  • @robicenco1 Just like if I had written that. +10

  • @robicenco1 They seriously haven't recovered at all since Kevin Moore left, I totally agree, and I get mad when most DT fans blow this off as no big deal... the two albums he was on destroy all future music they put out.

  • Portnoy... you god

  • My favorite album used to be images and words....

  • this song kevin moore leaving the band

  • Has anybody ever noticed that the album cover relates to the songs? like for example this song is called "Six O'Clock" Look at the moon and you see it is actually a clock reading "6:00" There is a song called "The Mirror" and there is a mirror. There is a song called "Caught in a Web" and beside the mirror there is a spider web, ect.

  • @AlexZamora1234 Plus there's a song called Space Dye Vest and you can see another planet (Looks like Jupiter) in the sky :P

  • @acdcfan014 yup haha.

  • @acdcfan014 and I thnik the guy in the mirror is the silent man

  • @AlexZamora1234 Wow... I would have never known that. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • @Kid12Ghost no prob man!

  • This is fuckin brilliant except James LaBrie sings like an old sweaty sock

  • Pretty sure this isnt metal... Am I wrong?

  • @Satantransvertdeath It's progressive metal.

  • @SlugMenace

    I dont hear it :P

  • @Satantransvertdeath

Yes you are wrong; this is a long established sub genre of Metal called Progressive Metal.

  • @EgoShredder I hear the Progressive part... but this is about as metal as Helloween's "Pink Bubbles Go Ape"

  • @Satantransvertdeath

Naaa Pink Bubbles was a rock pop album for Helloween, and a real nose dive in quality and identity for the band. Awake was quite a dark and heavy album, but not heavy in the sense of say the band Kreator etc.

  • @EgoShredder I just dont feel that it's heavy in the sense that metal is heavy is what I'm saying. It's just my opinion by the way, we really dont even need to discuss it if that's fine with you :P

  • @Satantransvertdeath

I understand what you mean and I agree, I was only saying DM are merely another kind of metal. Hey no worries, was not ranting or anything which YouTube is full of. We need a 'mouthy teen with nothing to say' filter! LOL.

  • Slam Dunk Phenomenal!!!!!!

  • sampling the great sampler himself!!

i never knew "the dead" was where they got those voices from until now. dream theather just gone up a notch

  • What were these guys smoking when they made the intro? hahahaha I love it!!!!

  • awesome musicianship....as usual, until the singer shits on the microphone that is.

  • @slitherlock You can just say that you don't like him, saying that "he shits into a microphone" doesn't really count as an opinion. He isn't really that bad anyways

  • @BloodHarvest21 okay, okay...maybe I was a bit brash. I took what you said into consideration...and listened again...with the same result. The singer is like...um...trying to play chess while someone screams in your ear. Or..say..trying to watch the super bowl...in a room full of toddlers who have had kool aid and candy all day. Liquid Tension is the frustration the musicians in DT feel. The singer is like an Orc at Mordor with painted glitter on his nails and a mop in his hand for battle.

  • @slitherlock haha ok, it's all in opinion is what I'm trying to say

  • @slitherlock gtfo.

  • this is the theme song to my life

  • this year I'll wake up 6:00 and play this song, for sure

  • ผมคิดว่า Sound เพลงนี้เข้ากับหนังเรื่อง Tron โดยเฉพาะฉากขี่รถ

  • I really expected anything else from this when I first heard it, everyone told me how good it was and also dream theater is recognized as a progressive band. but I really desepciono, I found something incomprehensible in its musical structure, no coherence and meaning. with very few bursts of piano to John Lord, a battery without the presence of base and guitar parts not surprise me much to be a representative song of the band. If progressives want to hear musical cacophony, chris poland

  • @zxmmetalfzx Honestly, this is one of their more....I dunno, catchy songs. If you're using this as a yardstick to measure Dream Theater as a whole (or all prog. metal, for that matter), you should probably stay away from prog. metal, because you probably just aren't the kind of person to get into this sound. I think this song is incredibly coherent and has plenty of meaning.

  • @zxmmetalfzx Chris Poland hasn't done anything relevant in 25 years man.

  • Incredible drum sound on this record. The first 3 seconds are worth rewinding many times to remind yourself what real acoustic drums can sound like. John Purdell and Duane Baron hit the production on this record out of the park. Purdell left us far too soon.

  • @poundingmetal74 Amen to that! This has to be one of the best produced albums of the 90s (not sure what else comes close... Radiohead, perhaps). Engineering, mixing is just top notch. The mix 'breathes"! :^D

  • @TheExpansionMansion Easily one of the best produced albums, Chameleon by Helloween is produced and mixed extremely well for 1993, but not to this quality. The drums completely stand out in Awake when compared to Chameleon.

  • @poundingmetal74 How did he die? I heard it was a car crash

  • @poundingmetal74 Too triggered, but still love it.

  • 498 people have a life. 5 people are still trying to find one.

  • in the world of Dream Theater, there are plenty of haters...but the fans know why we like DT. Because there is nothing like them, and they can always rock. Their older albums are just total creativity.

  • The backstreet boys disliked this video.

  • ITS PRACTICALLY THE SAME RIFF FOR THE WHOLE FKN SONG WTF BORINGGGG, SYMPHONY X SUCKS

  • @a7xtr00metalhead too bad this is dream theater??

  • @a7xtr00metalhead yeah symphony X sucks, are you retarded this is dream theater you nutsack

  • And I the only one that thinks of Primus when I hear this?

  • @EA369 i doubt it, there's probably a neurological disorder with a scientific name and a bunch of other sufferers who listen to DT and hear Primus, in a padded room somewhere :P

  • @PRIMEx420 wooahh....Primus is awesome. easy. i can see what the guy means some parts of the song have that bassy swagger to it.

  • @c9castine calm down there, chief... didn't you see the :P at the end of my post? thaat means jooooke... and though the two bass styles sound nothing alike to me, nobody said primus wasn't awesome... i've seen them live a bunch of times, so i'll give you the same word of wisdom you've tried giving me - easy..

  • @PRIMEx420 another time when the internet fails to express a joking or sarcastic tone. nobody really sounds like les claypool or primus..

  • @c9castine ohhh lets not blame the internet for this one... i clearly wrote ":P"

the rest was up to you... you just didn't spend enough time thinking before you reacted :)

  • @PRIMEx420 lol you just get a kick out of this dont you? theres nothing to blame for anything.....im talking about what i said, not what you said. i saw the stupid face you made at the end. youve never had somebody jokingly say "woooah there buddy, easy on X, haha"? lighten up man not everything needs to be a personal struggle on the internet.

  • @c9castine whatever you say :) anyone reading this will see your knee-jerk reaction and clumsy attempts at recovery from being put in your place. conversation over. enjoy you life

  • @PRIMEx420 recovery from what? put in what place? conversation over? im lost. i think you just had an argument with yourself.

  • @c9castine *thumbs up*

  • @c9castine Primus sucks.

  • @Padge314 ok.

  • @Padge314 You know "Primus Sucks" actually mean they're good?

  • @draugsvoll01 That was the idea of me saying it, yeah.

  • this sounds awsome

  • my favorite hour!

  • THIS SONG IS A WORK OF MIKE PORTNOY +

  • Che brutta voce :P

  • @MrRedsend vè ???? :D

  • This band would be awesome as hell if Labrie quit. His vocals are terrifying bad.

  • @metallicat67 Wow, Dream Theater without James? That's like BLT with no bacon, IT DOESN'T WORK! James is the heart and soul of DT, if you don't like that well, too bad.

  • @metallicat67 It would also be quite awesome if the LaBrie hate bandwagon would fuck off of a natural incline of a few hundred miles, but, unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

James is one of the best tenors in the business and fits Dream Theater's music very well.

I don't understand why he gets all the hate.

  • 4 people woke up at 10:00 on a Christmas morning thinking they were late for work.

  • @EpiDemic117 ha! math :)

  • @EpiDemic117 Who work on a Christmas morning ?

  • Great chorus

  • @Thycid that's not funny its stupid pendejo smfh

  • LLOL DIS SONG SHUD BEE 6:00 LONG ROFL!! AHHAHHAAHA

  • @Thycid Learn to spell please.

  • @knoxianpanda HAHA Who Learnded you howta spoke?

  • @Thycid Learn to spell please.

  • @knoxianpanda LOL Okayz i learn I speak enlgish for only how you say 1 year :-D

  • @Thycid :D

  • Whoever mixed the drums on this is maybe the best audio technician ever?

  • @malagutial Mixed the drums? Nothing about the drums is electronic, that's pure human abillities. Seen them live with opeth, there were no technological substitutes aside from the visuals.

  • @AnimamDespondere rofl. he means the drum sound

  • diddily diddily doodeedaa diddily

  • What a wanderful sound!!! Drum sound is PERFECT!

  • @mctworm and the moon says six o clock on a christmas morning

  • I forgot how good Dream Theater was! So amazing.

  • I'm fairly new to DT, what is the story behind this song?

  • @BloodHarvest21 there are theories, but no one is entirely sure.

  • @shaolinkungfu666 Like what? Something about Christmas?

  • @BloodHarvest21 Nope, like Moore's deteriorating relatioship with the band and how he was feeling back then.. "So many ways to drown a man, so many ways to drag him down, some are fast and some take years and years", etc.

  • The 4 people who dislike this were able to "shake" the "sound" and I feel sorry for you.

  • I'm going to wake up at 5:58 on Christmas, put my ipod on the dock, and listen to this full blast at 6:00

  • @Montyofthestone holy shitt

whats you radio name, that is gonna be Epic! :D

  • where i can fint the partiture for guitar of this amazing song :D?

  • what happen on 6:00 on a christmas morning

  • love this song!!

  • best drumming ever ........ from samc232

  • i started laughing at 5:19

  • I hope than Mangini were a good drummer like Portnoy, i think that... DT couldn't choise him without before know him :)

Anyway, good song i love Awake's Album :D

  • Not a fan of DT. But when they get it right for me, holy shit!

  • 3 people are too busy watching the six o'clock news instead of listening to this

  • Best production, engineering, mix eveeerrrrrrr!!!! :^D

  • Love Dream Theater. Honestly, nothing makes you think more than progressive metal.

  • THIS is Progressive Metal. I get sick of having people direct me to prog metal bands, and all I hear when I give them a shot is hair metal. THIS is how you do it, damn it. >:|
