  • Thanks for posting this, it's been a long time since I saw this on my old VHS tape in the late 20th Century...

My favorite moment of their cover of Eight Miles High in this version is when Bob gives his trademark growl at 9:23, then goes into a intense state that looks cathartic in utter state of grace and then proceeds to finish the song by throttling his guitar and it's so disturbing that I guess they just had to pull the camera away!!!

  • what do they mean by 'safety is a big disguise" ? safety from what? is he invisioning a dystopic world like 1984 ... is that what he thinks the world is headed to ? (back when he wrote this) and how close are we to it ? i mean seriously. im pretty sure that today we are safe from gov't snatching us up..

  • @emannyc2002 maybe it means --- the govt's use of the word 'safety' is a big disguise. everything in the name of safety- rights taken away in the name of safety.

  • these guys F-ing ROOOOOOOOOOCKK!

  • the bass does sound a bit tinny lol

  • Grass and acid for a trip to the tour.

  • first heard husker du in 83 along with mdc, crucifix, dicks, etc blew that stale uk82 stuff away.great vid,i wish they'd sort out their legal bullshit.

  • bass isn't tuned right.

  • As essential as air.

  • College radio kicks ass. Think about how many of us wouldn't have ever gotten into the power of Hüsker Dü in the first place without radical DJ's.

  • wow!! the drumer sings?!?! how cool

  • "A tray of crystal glasses breaking in a church."

  • wonderful...! its weird to think that the youth flying from the stage is now in his forties.

  • Weird, but true. Here's to being in his (almost) 40s. Husker Du is amazing!

  • As cool as this is, Greg's bass sounds like shit.

  • Its unfortunate that it had to be mixed so high and out of tune

  • You're judging a bass sound from a 20-year old YT clip? Wow--there's just no pleasing some people.

  • When I heard Divide and Conquer on the radio in 1985 on a local college radio station I was driving in my car. Got a ticket on 128 from a Statey. Was doing a buck ten. When out and bought the record next day. Love that tune.

  • Probably the most expensive record you ever bought, huh? ;)

  • exactly!

  • We were all teenyboppers once...

  • Man people are always talking about how they were falling apart and hated each other all along and stuff...but watching this, Grant and Bob singing on each other's songs and Greg jumping around even on drugs-gone-bad songs...there's some passion here

  • HUSKER DU and REM got me through high school without going ape shit

  • Gotta say, going back in time to a moment when I was a teenage guy in '85, that the girl in front wearing white shown at the beginning would have been a quite the cool girlfriend! What an amazing, amazing performance! (the band). I never saw them when I was younger and youtube was unknown and thought that I would never hear anything live from them ever (except "land speed," anyway). In other words, thanks for posting!

  • I love this song and I love Husker Du.

  • Damn, sounds like Greg's bass is steadily falling apart through the gig.

  • It seems like the market exists for a DVD release of live Huskers stuff, if somebody could put one together. The 'Mats, too.

Thanks for posting. This is fantastic.

  • There will be a DVD in the Mats rarities box set being released later this year, as for Husker Du nothing will happen until the band members can agree on how to reissue the albums, Makes No Sense (live at camden palace) is available in Australia on DVD and also now widley available in the uk but it's not their best performance and the sound is pretty awful, there is much better footage out there (plenty of it on youtube.)

  • i hope they reconcile and do that cause they aint getting any younger. bob said grants lawyer holds the estate for the du so maybe its on him, so sad nothing happens.

  • Well Greg and Grant share a lawyer so together they hold the lions share of the "Husker Du Estate." Bob is in a better financial position to do somthing about reissues though, i think this is where the dispute lyes, plus i heard bob wants to remix some of the albums where as the other two don't, personally i would be happy to see remixes and the original masters released.

  • swedish board game i think...

  • @jat13 I would loooove to hear a remastered reissue... Like, as much as I totally love their... well... 'shitty' sound (don't get me wrong, it sounds really cool but...), hearing those recordings in a better environment would be special.

  • but grant hart isn'dead?

  • All 3 members are alive.

  • Husker du is norwegians, and it means: do you remember.

  • They aint from Norway. The name is though. People always look and my tshirt weird. "Is that a band?"

  • OK. But it is a funny name for a band.

    Have a nice day :-)

  • I have that same problem. People always ask me "What's a Husker Du"?

  • thy always do pink turns to blue better live

  • There's no sound more powerful than Bob screaming thru Eight Miles High!

  • i guess the camden palace shot is the best one out there? I got the

  • this is a soundboard recording, thats why its fcked up, i agree ......dont you have ears?

  • pink turns to blue, eight miles high, what could anyone ever want......

  • the bass isnt out of tune, it just sounds weird. dont you have ears?

  • The E string is a bit out of tune. That shitty mix just makes it sounds worse.

  • Which E string... There are 3 being played.

  • greg's low (well, only) e string is definitely a bit out of tune but it actually is on a lot of their live stuff. the live feed is a little bit lame though, makes it much more noticeable.

  • The Huskers! I don't think Grant is at his best singing wise at this gig, bass straight in, and low guitar volume, but still....vintage nonetheless! Great work jat13...Thank you.

  • Grant Hart!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lawwd have mercy the bass is so frickin' out of tune.

  • amazing!

  • Good lordy be! Grant looks very healthy, too. Remember teeth?

  • lol wat does that mean?

  • What does "remember teeth" mean?

  • Oh, man. Fat-Bob era Huskers. This is a great vid. Interesting mix with the bass direct to the tape. Greg--what a hoot! Reviewers always made him look funny using the words "scissors kick." Har. Grant--I saw them at the Pine Street Theater in Portland during this era. Bob kept his stomp boxes in a little paisley zippered suitcase. Viva Huskers!

  • this first song is nuts man..whoa they have the power like each and everyone of you

  • Suck on this, My Chemical Romance and Fall out Boy. All emo kids should be forced to watch this video so they can find out what real music is.

  • Grant looks a little beat up in this. The heroin starting to take its toll?

  • Is grant not the fattest heroin addict ever? LOL

  • Greg, please tune your bass.

  • yeah and turn the guitar up

  • Hey thx for posting this...one of my all time fave bands growing up in the mid 80s!!!!!!!

  • yes! Great post. Greg seems a bit off, he

  • This is just a rough copy of "SST-The Tour" Appears to be a different camera angle and slightly worse quality then the regular version. Was actually still available in the SST catelog up until a few years ago. Either way very cool for fans who havent seen it.

  • awesome video, coincidentally my 3 favorite husker songs. shame you can't hear the guitar though.

  • i love husker du so much, this band deserves more praizes than most other bands ever

  • I was 14 Husker Du Split - I first listened to Zen Arcade in 1992; there has not been a year since when I have not listed to a Bob or Grant composition. I have looked endlessly to find a live recording - without success - thank you for posting this - there will be no power trio like it again.

  • There is a cd called the "Living End" It was recorded on their last tour. The only problem with it is that none of their big songs are on it.

  • I disagree. What do you consider their BIG SONGS?

  • Pink Turns To Blue, Could You Be The One, Makes No Sense At All, Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely, Sorry Somehow, Never Talking To You Again, Diane. For some reason these songs we're all left off the album.

  • which album you're talking bout?

  • what would the music world be without this band? Nothing.

  • Unbelievable memories captured professionally. A tremendous find and gift to the world.
