I saw this video on Egg Pub, and thought "hey, that's a Basha's label on the eggs!" I grew up in AZ, and presume you must be there also. I do pickled eggs periodically myself, and love them! Nice video, good info. Cheers!
I love pickled eggs, when I make a batch of eggs I use my fowlers vacola outfit and the jars create a great seal so they last for months and months....if they're not all eaten first !!
My dad used to make pickled eggs using the leftover pickle juice in our dill pickle jars... They were green and funky looking, but they tasted great. I think I might try making some.
try piercing a hole in the bottom of the egg, then add them to the water when the water is boiling and use a fair amount of salt to the water, the high salt amount with make sure the eggs doesn't lay on the button, the hole will help to avoid cracks and if you drop them from cold to boiling and then when done drop them straight into icy cold water they will loosen from the shell.
I usually let mine sit for a few nights, rather hard to keep out of the jar if you ask me. After a friend from the UK told me how it goes, I drop mine in a bag of potato chips and munch on both at the same time, delicious. Both go great with a cool stout.
I have seen people throw eggs in the large pickle jar at corner stores. Does this have the same effect? Can we just use the pickle juice from the jar?
Great video! We have free range chickens here, so were always looking for new egg recipes. We add beat juice and garlic cloves to ours. :) Thanks for posting!
technically pickled eggs are made with pickle juice vinegar. thats why its called PICKLED eggs. really, all you made was vinegar eggs lol just thought i'd be a smart ass
@TheMrAndyman Anything brined in vinegar or wine is called "pickled"... Pickles are "pickled" by soaking in, guess what, vinegar. These are pickled eggs. It is accurate, though, to call them vinegar eggs... just as it is accurate to call pickles something like vinegar cucumbers.
yeah thanks great. i can't believe they cost so much in USA. But getting Pickled Eggs in a chippy now is a rarity in UK.I'm not saying they don't sell them it's just not as often, they used to be in every chippy in the country in the 80's didn't they!!!but not anymore. If you go to Costco they might stock them. That's where i got mine, an huge jar with 25 smallish eggs cost me 3 quid, not sure what it cost u in USA but 15 dollars IS a rip off. thanks snpmurray !!! Love the pickled eggs!!!
Just vinegar? Yuk! I make pickled quail eggs and use more than just straight vinegar. My recipe is cheap to make. Or you can buy a premixed pickling mix and follow the instructions. They would have a better flavor than just vinegar.
You're absolutely right!!!!! This is a much more cost effective way to make pub favourites for next to nothing!!!!! Thank you very much for this video!!!!!!
wow - used to eat these many years ago. Once boiled, we use cider vinegar that has been heated with pickling spice - yumm (also same mixture can be used to make pickled keilbasa sausage, a favorite at the bar)
I moved from Pennsylvania to the northwest state of Washington years ago and couldn't find picked eggs anywhere (most people here had never heard of them), so I've been making my own for years now.
Back home, they're pickled with beet juice in addition to vinegar, so they become red and have a slight flavor of pickled beet. You can't imagine the looks I get at work when I bring one of these in my lunch. :)
Oh my gosh, I have such a craving for picked eggs now! I would be in the kitchen making a batch right this second, except I just bought new eggs so as you said, they will be a pain in the butt to peel :(
Thank you, I'm going to try this.....we raise chickens & have a glut of eggs....trying to find interesting ways of using them with w/o getting sick of them! (Egg pasta, custards, etc. This looks like a winner! BTW I think you're smart to mention not using FRESH eggs....It took us a while to figure out, after we started raising our own(1st really fresh eggs we'd ever had) why our own eggs wouldn't peel neatly like supermarket eggs.Too fresh.!Thanks for sharing this video & recipe.Awesome!!
WHY DOSE IT SAY -----> This video has been removed by the user. DID YOU REALLY REMOVE How to make pickled eggs for pennies ~~ LET ME KNOW WHATS UP ????
I think your video is great! You are SO right about the cost of pickled eggs. Its rediculous! We make ours at home, pretty much like your video, except we add jalapeno & if ya want them really hot, put some habenero peppers in with the eggs! Have a glass of water or milk ready 2drink though. LOL. We learned a couple of very useful tips from your video, so thanks so much!
do you put them in the fridge for the 2 weeks? and keep in fridge after you open too?we are in the tropics in australia though its winter now. just dont want to make any one sick. i am going to try this with maybe beetroot juice too as iheard thats good.
@sewsweet08 using beets is really good i use vineger and a can of whole beets in juice then mix them put in to a jar and add the eggs try it ull enjoy them i usually soak for about 2 days to let the juice soak all the way to the yolk but i always eat a few b4 then lol there good just leave them in the jar in the fridge like u would with pickles
Eggs pickled in only vinegar are just about the nastiest things on earth. I love pickled eggs but I wouldn't give plain vinegar eggs to my dog. I do agree that homemade pickled eggs are cheap to make and are significantly cheaper than buying them in the store.
To add some interesting flavors to the eggs, add canned whole cooked beets to the eggs and pickle them along with the eggs. Yummy!

well you can also add salt while boiling eggs , so the eggs won't crack.

Very nice. Are store bought eggs best? I have folks that sell farm eggs out here, can I use them if I wait a week by storing eggs in Freig?

PUT SALT IN YOUR WATER THE EGGS WILL NOT CRACK. Table spoon will do.
Try is and I bet you will not ever have any more cracked eggs!

We pickle ours with fresh home grown jalapenos or tabasco peppers. Salty, vinegary and spicy. Yum.

how do you get the pink color in them
plaidpantsskateboard 11 months ago
@plaidpantsskateboard You can use beet juice or food coloring. Pickled beet juice would probably be the best color, more pink less red.

@snpmurray The reason why i asked is because I read about the risk of Botulism with unrefrigerated pickled eggs.

I dont, no. If there are bacteria that can grow in pickled eggs, I guess I am unaware of them
snpmurray 2 years ago
If you havent sterilised your jar properly, leaving it out is a bad idea. all it takes is the tiniest bit of air getting in and making the lid moldy.
fridge is reccomended for most pickling in humid climates anyway.
