The alleged greatest religion in the world needs to be defended against defamation by public laws and death sentences?
This is the reaction of a people who know, deep down that what they believe is a crock. Only lies need to be defended by violence and fear.
If they truly believed in this religion and if their god was as true as they claim, why care if someone insults it? What difference does it make if you have the creator of the whole universe on your side?

@FIGHTFANNERD3 I am not sure it has always been as horrible. I think early on in our history religion may have been a guiding force for humanity. I think now though, it serves no real point.
The majority of early Muslim areas were fairly socially and scientifically advanced for their time, the same time that European Christians were digging themselves deeper into the Dark Ages. Some groups spread Islam by the sword, but in most cases, non-Muslims were simply given another tax, and encouraged to convert that way.
Apparently, it was the Crusades that caused Islam in general to backslide so badly. And Christianity was commonly spread by the sword in those days.
