I agree with this lady completely. If babies couldn't sleep train - no one would be able to do it. But lots of mamas have been able to sleep train at an early age. My boy is 13 wks and he doesn't cry before bed or through the night-not since 4 wks. Wakes only once/twice and grunts back to sleep. It's not just about letting a baby cry sometimes - its also about ensuring a full feeding at each time (not just letting baby sleep halfway through) and its about a baby finding security in a routine.
A breastfed baby should be fed on DEMAND not forced to go hungry for hours, this is what the nurses/lactation consultants tell you in the hospital. Most babies are in their mothers room and not on a schedule. This woman is giving very bad advice.
If you know how sleep works biologically then you would know that day sleep nor night sleep is not organized at this age so waking your baby won't produce longer night sleep but only make your baby overtired which will actually create sleeping problems.
A newborn can NOT go 4 hours without eating!!!

Not only should we "teach" the baby to sleep, but perhaps we should "teach" the baby to breathe?
