  • The Glenwood was the only theater in KC that showed Star Wars when it premiered in 1977.

  • great video I was born in KC in 1957 now living in Az for the last 12 yrs. I can still remember my first date in 1971 at the old fairland park amusement park

  • Wow. Thank you for posting. I grew up in KC North and then Kearney. I moved away in 1986. Lots of good memories seeing this.

  • Grew up near Plaza, and moved to OP in 1972. Left area in '84. Family still there. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

  • What a GREAT trip down memory lane!!!!!!!!!! Made me tear up. Thank you so much!

  • Lovely :)

  • Old KC -- I used to have access to all your great photos... need to make another donation :). This video is great. I lived in Overland Park from 1985 to 1995 (my parents still live there, near the Metcalf South). May I ask where the first shot of Winstead's was taken? Thanks for the memories (although I was there later, I can now piece together a little history).

  • @kswanson20 I was thinking it was the one on Roe and 435 but I'm not sure about that.. If anyone can confirm this, thanks.......

  • @rhinsen

I think it was the Winsteads on 95th Streeet just east of Antioch

  • @trgaughan thanks....

  • 2:13 I use to work in the building under the words "Shopping Mall". It was way after the 1970s though.

  • Hey I know where that standard station at 1:52 is. That is near the Wyndham hotel in Overland park isnt it?

  • The only KC pics were at the very end. Wish there were more old Brookside pictures, especially the Brookside Theatre.

  • Great video! Thanks for the memories!

  • It's very sad to see how all the space, how all that grass has just been paved over with parking lots, Starbucks, Walgreens, and other garbage over and over again. Hell, you have to go beyond 150th street to get any SPACE these days!

  • The cheapskate owners of Ranchmart finally improved it in 2009, twenty years too late.

  • @peterbillionaire that would be Regnier who owns ranchmart my mother went to school with that guy... he never did crap to it until last year... it still looks like crap with a bunch of froo froo stores.

  • Interesting pics, especially the now and then aspect. The cheapskate owners of Ranchmart finally improved it in 2009, 20 years late.

  • I am still pissed about the zambezi zinger, you know thats in a columbian amusement park now and they repainted it,Bastards! great video

  • Nice! The Zambezi Zinger ruled.

  • criticism of the photos not intended, but sarcasm was intended of the deferred maintenance/updates of the Ranchmart shopping center.

  • Oh, sorry.... I understand what you meant now. Thanks..

  • Ranchmart pics could have been taken 3 years ago.

  • I don't think so, you obviously didn't notice how old the cars in the parking lot were.

  • Love it,but would loveto see some other old KC pics....Whizzo, Old Gus, Pogos. It would be fun to be able to add on and share pictures.

  • Does anyone remember Mugs-Up-Root Beer Drive in?

  • THANKS for the great memories since I grew up in OP by Ranch Mart!! Family night at the Leawood theatre with my sisters in the back of Mom"s Country Squire station wagon. Old enough to remember Metcalf was a gravel road in the early 60's. Also 435 being built. We used to ride our bikes there and watch the progress. Crown Drug Store!!

  • Leawood Drive-In! Ranchmart! Even the Skelly gas station on the corner where we got into a car accident (fender bender). Do you remember the Longhorn cows at 103rd and Mission Rd?

  • thanks for the trip down memory lane. It would be interesting to see then and now shots.

  • Wow. What a great flashback

  • Thank you, that was very nice work. I probably have dozens more that I could add. However, you should probably change your description to read, "Overland Park, Leawood, KS and Kansas City, MO. (there were no shots of Kansas City, KS.) Again, wonderful slide show.

  • Thanks for the correction. Update has been made to description. Also, thanks for the comment.

  • Very nice. Thanks for that

  • I remember getting lost in the Jones Store at Metcalf South when I was very young... wish there had been a pic of that wacky fountain in the middle of the mall, with all the staggered concrete slabs like a maze through the water feature there.

Totally agree about the Zambezi Zinger. Awesome ride that scared the crap out of my little brother! Thanks for the memories!

  • Ditto what Headsnap said!

  • that was 5:56 of my life that I got back... THANKS!

  • Wow, this is the Kansas City of my childhood. The Zambezi Zinger was the best. Thank you for the awesome pics.
