I remember this TV spot, and a number of others that "starred" Rex Everhart. He was a wonderful actor and I recall, with joy, seeing him in theatres as the truckdriver in the original "Friday the 13th". He had a distinguished theatre career and was well respected for his work in "1776".
He was one of those actors who always brought a smile to your face, and I know he did voiceover work in the 90's. Don't know how active he was in later years but this wonderful actor died in 2000.
That "peanut vendor guy" was in a lot of commercials during the '60s and '70s, but I never knew his name. He was like Herb Vigran or Jesse White, just a guy who was in tons of commercials. Barney Martin (Jerry Seinfeld's TV dad) did lots of ads back then too. He's in the classic "singing Raisin Bran" ad from the early '70s.
We don't have "Peanut Munch" though. Perhaps back in the day. Anyway, definitely there are still Snickers bars in Canada. They're actually one of the most popular chocolate bars!
No. Isn't this an American commercial? Do you still have them? We do in Canada. Lately the name changed to "Believe" though. I think that's just temporarily for the Olympics though.
It DID, actually, KERRIKRONIC! They dropped the "Snickers Peanut" from the name soon after it debuted, and it was simply called "Munch!" I ate them all through the 1980s in California. I live in Georgia now, and you can still find Munch! here today! It's really just peanut brittle, always was.
Wow that really sucks. Try ordering one online and understand the craze for awesome tasting food that causes a slow painful death. But really they are awesome.
R. Lee Ermey (please note spelling) was born in 1944, so I would guesstimate he was in his mid 20s when this commercial was filmed. The vendor looks quite like him...sounds reminiscent of him...and absolutely IS NOT him.
Emery also appeared in a 1968 Kool cigarette commercial that emulated "ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN" at the time- he turned up in two brief "blackout" gags involving a cluttered closet and a variation of Jack Benny's famous "your money or your life" gag. Emery did a LOT of commercials...
R. Lee Ermey (note spelling) was born in 1944, so he was probably somewhere in his mid 20s when this spot was produced. Resemblance aside, you cannot be serious in your assertion that the upper-middle aged vendor in this spot is Ermey.
KOTRAQUIN: That's because it was! :-) Candy bars, before the 1980s, were alot smaller than they are today! I was there. :-)
The biggest candy bar was always 3 Musketeers, which was why I always bought them. I loved Snickers and Mars, but they were so small! And I wanted my money's worth! :-)
For that matter, it's a good thing Abba-Zabba was only a dime! This was in 1977. Talk about getting your money's worth! A big piece of white taffy filled with peanut butter. :-) And Charleston Chew! always gave you your money's worth, too! It was just 20 cents and was so chewy it lasted forever! Snickers, Mars and 3 Musketeers, although better-tasting, were more expensive at 25 cents, and could be gobbled down in under a minute. Not as much fun! :-)
The reason they could be :gobbled" in under a minute is THEY TASTE GOOD. What the hell is Abba Zabba. I was probably born after that company went out of business.
YURITIM: He did ALOT of voice-over work in the `70s... I sure do remember that voice from alot of candy and toy commercials! ANY kind of ad that demanded an excited, frenetic voice. Takes me back.
Yes, that would be really cool. Or if companies would just realise the value of nostalgia, and how seeing the old ads would spur so many to go out and buy the product just from nostalgia.
And if they did that they would earn a killing i mean just about a week ago they put a old 90s advert for milkyway bars on and guess what i brought milkybars all week just because it reminded me of the old times, but i guess some would rather spend a million to come up with new ads.
