  • OMGGGGGG WTHHHH I DIDNT NO PPL DO THAT!!!!!! MY 4 YEAR OLD BABY CNT EVEN DO THAT OR ANYTHIN -.-...THANK U FOR UR HELPFUL VID -.-.-.-.-.-..-.-.-.-

  • I was drooling watching this and the only thing around me was a papaya.

  • my brother just got a mango he's going to try it

  • Where to cut: Hold the knife straight out in front of you, line up the fruit so it looks like a zero like this: 0. The seed is flat, the fruit shapes itself around the seed. You need to cut the skinny sides. Naturally people want to cut the thicker side, thinking they'll get more fruit but you'll just run into the seed. Think of it looking like this: (0) the zero is the seed, the parentheses are edible fruit. Ive never cut one wrong... then again my family is mostly Pacific Islanders. ;)

  • yes yes, very nice ring you got there :) but give me some mango!

  • What about the side with the big ass seed?

  • @Jerachistar the seed is in the middle, flat, so you can cut the mango on the other side too. I explained it in detail in my comment but to explain quickly: the mango looks like this- (0) the zero in the middle is the seed and the space between the zero and the parentheses is the edible fruit. So both sides are equal and can be cut exactly the same using this mango cutting technique shown in the video.

  • nice ring

  • I love mango. First time I had one was in Florida when I was 21. I had hitch hiked down there one summer. It was the most awesome tasting fruit ever. Kind of a cross between a peach and a pine tree.

Sadly, I'm allergic to the sap in the skin and I break out like poison ivy wherever it touches my body.

That said, how do you figure out which way the see lies? It's flat so how can you predict which way to cut the mango?

p.s. a spoon will get any wasted flesh for smoothies later on.

  • @gamenode Great Mango Story! Thanks for sharing. It is a magical fruit!

Poison Ivy Skin: yes i hear the mango is in the same family as the poison ivy and the sap from the skin can cause reactions in many people. Maybe it would help if you used gloves while preparing the mango just to be safe?

Cutting Lines: You can start cutting anywhere and be ok. The flesh is forgiving.

Spooning is a great idea. :)

  • @gamenode you need a trip to india in june or july. you will see mango trees in people's front yards and fruit vendors on the streets with several different varieties of mangoes. ask me about eating a mango without cutting the skin.

  • @gamenode

you didnt mention the origin of the mango....you must must .....must try pakistani or indian mangoes.... they r the best in the world....very delicious..plz dont mind my free advise

  • i prefer smaller blocks, it will look better too

  • @NyoronChibiChan We will have to try the smaller blocks of mango today. Thanks for the advice! :)

  • useless skank

  • You are now my Mango hero!! Thank you!

  • and i was like... USE A SPOON!!!!!!!

  • i eat the skin as well :D

  • what about using a glass instead of a knife, that would be so much easier

  • Skin the mango with extremely low angled cuts then eat it like an animal.

  • @flupmakintosh a fresh mango doesn't taste good. They need to ripe.

  • Besides that this is a really unsafe way to do it (if your knife is sharp that is) this takes ages, and its wasting a lot of meat.

Just cut of the skin, it takes me less time to cut the skin of a mango than what you took to cut one half of it. Then just cat the meat, its not hard to tell which way the seed/stone is aligned.

Sorry but there is no advantage to your methode.

  • Absolute not! There are dozens of ways to cut a mangos but this isn't one of them. This technique is for fruit platters and display. It is aesthetic, but not functional.

  • After i cut a a slice of the mango and cut it both ways i don't cut the turn it inside out n cut the cubes i just grab a spoon and eat it in my hand......... That way you don't get any mess or juices sticking in ur hands

  • waste

  • half the mango was wasted though. there was so much flesh left on the skin

  • @krayzee222222222222 You can control how close to the skin you get w/ the knife so you will be able to control the amount of flesh left on the mango or not. If you cut to close you will get parts of the green skin in your mango chunks. If you cut to far away you waste goodness but you can always reslice the left over mango flesh.

  • my dad cuts it this way =D

  • lol my fav fruit\!!

  • Ahhh, I've been doing it alwrong>.> Thanks a lot :D

  • i favor eat it without knife

  • @Mrhadiiiii If I try to eat a mango without a knife I get the fibers stuck in my teeth.

  • @texeyes yes if you try to eat the remaining mango flesh off of the mango seed the fibers will get all in your teeth. Mango cubes are the way to go bro.

  • Watching this, actually relaxes me hahaha.

  • @righteous09 makes me hungry! :)

  • @righteous09 makes me hungry! :)

  • How to cut a mango:

    With a knife

    ITS MIRACLE!!!

  • so sweet. : )

  • Thank you!

  • A couple of tips to keep your hand safe: First cut a thin slice from the top and bottom of the fruit to see the size and place of the stone. When making cross-cuts, place the fruit on a cutting board rather than in the palm of your hand.

  • very safe, cutting into your hand... wow. you probably shouldnt be handing out too much advice

  • @ShallowJam Someone who is proficient in a kitchen knows how to properly wield a knife without cutting their hand. My mother did it all the time, and so do I.

  • @sj2180 talk to Alton Brown from the Food Network. Ever seen the episode of Good Eats where he explains why he uses a food scooper instead of a chef's knife to scoop food off the cutting board? Its because he cut himself really badly one time and now he doesnt think using a knife is a good idea when its coming so close to your hand. my point is, even experienced chef's can make mistakes that result in lots of pain. Its a bett idea to just put the mango on the board.

  • @ShallowJam if you asked Alton Brown, or any professional chef, they would tell you this is how to properly cut a mango.

  • @ShallowJam come on man Alton Brown is just trying to sell you a "food scooper". If he cut his hand while cutting a mango in this manner he might have had to much wine.

  • @ShallowJam Senior Jam this is the proper way to cut a mango I assure you. I know my parents and your parents probably drilled it into your brain never cut towards your hand, but with a mango to outer covering is thick enough where you have little chance of cutting through unless of course you are about 5 years old. This is how a Puerto Rican taught us in Puerto Rico and is practiced all through the Caribbean.

  • @texeyes just because it is done over there, doesn't mean anything. Especially because the Mango originated from Asia....

The way she shows, is only for display and looks, it is not practical. And btw, with a really sharp knife, the skin of the mango has close to zero resistance, it is wrong to cut that way, nothing else. If you teach people to cut like that, they WILL cut them selfs when trying to do that with other stuff.

  • that's a big mango
