I forgot about this one! The hip-hop song that sampled this was pretty good, too! Steely Dan is just so smooth...the epitome of a good lounge/jazz band...that just happened to make it really big... Toto, Pink Floyd, Chicago, and Steely Dan ( among many others) are timeless:)
I went to the college (American) where Steely Gang got together and started making music...Their song, "My Old School" is all about that school...That was...MANY years ago (let's just leave it at that...), and even then I was not there when they were! Not too long ago, the students collected their CD's as a sort of status symbol...which is sad, to me...
When Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz -sampled this for Deja Vu (Uptown Baby) it tripped me out. I was like NOOOOOO U cant sample songs LIKE THIS!! Its just wrong! However, they did they thang on it, no lie. I mean, if its gonna be done at all. Personally, nobody should in my opinion, but since they did, they did a decent job. Nothing is like Steely Dan though. Nothing like quality original vinyls.
I dare say....One of the most amazing popular albums of all time. It changed my musical course when I first heard it, and is still as marvelous today as it was in 1977!
I used to listen to this song as a little girl and I thought he was saying "take your big black cow and get out of here." And I thought he was telling a girl to take her cow and leave. Haha :)
@Pinkcreamo679 That is why I used to laugh and laugh at this song too when I was a kid putzing about with my aunt Jo Jo. I had no idea a Black Cow was a drink until I decided to make this video for her. I had to look it up. Other than a few 'Prince' songs this is the song I most associate her with. :) --Best.
I kinda knew i had grown up musically when i heard this in my teen years, i sort of felt i had discovered serious intelligent music, i hadn't of course, but it sure felt that way, none of my friends at the time had even heard of Steely Dan, made a big impact on me...............
Not gonna lie, I only heard about these guys because they were mentioned on Mad Love as one of the character's guilty pleasures and I wanted to check them out. Needless to say, I like them :).
The beginning of this song was used for a "classic" rap song. I got a bad memory but it was a good rap song. Crazy how many songs are sampled by rap musicians.
I really like this video. Great job! I love this song and I love Steely Dan...They give a good performance...You have to know their music to appreciate their concerts!
@TonyTuthill What's wrong with the world? People take jokes too seriously? Calm down, I would give 'em up free if I had them. Just strange to offer such a small amount for something like that. Why not just say "please give them back." It seems almost insulting to the music, $600 for the masters?? I'm sure someone has paid more than that for some piece of Steely Dan memorabilia that is comparitivly insignificant.
@TonyTuthill OK OK OK I'll give it back if Steely Dan reunites to play my wedding. I'm not gona pop the question until Fagen confirms the date. Don't leave my girl hangin now.
I play this when I'm flirtin with Black girls...they like it. It gets em in the mood for neckin'. Then I let em buy me drinks and then I usually go home alone....part of this story is true.
@PJNARS , ain't nuthin wrong with some different flava son. Women, I love 'em. I don't care what complexion, what race, where they come from or where they've been. But, every now an then you run into a monster. I dated a chick back in the eighties who looked like she shit honey covered peanuts, but she was a cold lush man. OK- not trying to be a jerk here, but a $600 reward for a missing multi-trak master? There's a sign in my neighborhood for a 1K reward for a missing cat! How much money was Donald planning on making off this missing bit of info ? Yes, I only see 2 zeros behind that 6 (thought I might be missing something).

I listened to this album a lot at my summer job while I photocopied documents (I'm 20 and in college, we kids gotta take what we can get!). Anyway, I would be totally groovin' at the copier and my boss would walk by and see me, and all of a sudden she's dancing behind my back, and I turn around and just start lol'ing my ass off. @Rudaddy10 I concur. My dad turned me on to this group as a teenager. Im 25 now and listening to their music is bittersweet. Im glad that he introuduced me to different kinds of music, but I still have to remember that he is no longer here. R.I.P. Dad
This has now been adopted as a jazz standard. A "black cow" according to Wikipedia is the Brazilian term for an ice cream soda, although I still feel unclear as to whether the soda has to be root beer or not.

@ChefNVogue Yeah I felet pretty darn good after this. If you at the first things I attempted on YouTube, I could not move away from just Sequential Art to animation. Animation has been so hard for me to get my head around. 3D animation even moreso. Thank you.
SO OUTRAGEOUS ! ! ! ! So Jazzy, so funky so Right On Time !
Gosh this tune brings back all the good times I had in San Diego in the summer time in 1977 78 and 79. When I was a young chile in her 20's and looking FINE ! !
I can sing it, I can dance it and I will always want to hear it played by its original band, Donald and Walter ! ! ! F O R E V E R ! ! !
Like the vid! Cool effects. Heard my brother playin Steely as a kid. After growing up, Steely came in handy during times of strife and pleasure! Greeat to see that they can still hack it with these youngsters with no talent! Keep up the exceptional work!
Brilliant song... A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!

You have given me classic Steely Dan. Therefore you have made me very happy. And I like how the wordplay suits the song. Nice touch. (^;

This was the sample that Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz used for their hit Deja Vu(Uptown Baby).

I typically hate music like this, but Steely Dan - Aja is a complete classic. I love it intensely.
