@liveforfunk He is already famous in the world of music! He already has 2 grammys!! Now if you have 2 grammys, then I think youve earned the right to be called famous :)
Marcus has always been one of my main influences - had the pleasure to watch SMV live and I have to say that he just confirmed there who's who. 3 great players - we all know Victa has amazing chops but Marcus... man, he was in the zone the whole time. Every note he playind was dripping groove and soul. He is pretty much the anchor of SMV and he can up his game to match any of the other two. I dare you show me one clip from Marcus where he has sounded nothing else like amazing ;)
Yeah...other than the batteries overheating to nuclear meltdown every five minutes, this isn't such a bad bass....love the neck...but I need something that's going to go the distance.

Man, Marcus aint NO F''''''' Joke!!!!!!! Glad this was posted because I was undecided on which of his Basses I was going to purchase. Now I know. Dat Damn 5 string... HELL YEAH.......AWESOME..... THANKS TO SOME 1 OUT THERE...
Look close and you can see the action on that bass is set up perfectly....It's rare that we regular guys get to pull a bass off the rack and experience that type of setup. U gotta find the right retailer. It's a must!
I'm not a bassist so I can't comment on the technical side of the playing but all I know is that bass sounds amazing and being a drummer I'd give an arm and a leg to jam with Marcus Miller. Although, it wouldn't be much of a jam if I only had one arm and one leg...
@nobby22 Trust me, bass players appreciate a good drummer too, I find listening to good drummers just as important as bass players. It's amazing how less value or focus is placed on drummers and bass player until they are not there.
So, my point as I said.People say "Ah give Marcus any bass and he sounds like Marcus"that's my point!I'm not really mentioning any components per se.Just his playing overall.I think personal equipment and choices defines his sound.
Sure it sounds different.I'm just referring to people's comments when they say"Marcus sounds like Marcus no matter what bass you put in his hands"I think that can be refuted to some level. His signature Fender 5's don't have the tone of a 70's jazz.
@SuperElectricbass It's funny. None of them do, as a matter of fact. I attribute that to the lousy electronics. The preamp alone is way too harsh, IMO.
@inuyashaspet I agree with you and SuperElectricbass. I have one and so far I have adjusted my action to where it's not too high or too low but perfect/ideal for thumping and fingering styles. You can check my vids if you want but SuperElectric bass is right. I was trying some amps with my MM sig bass and some guy asked if I changed the preamp. I told him no and he was shocked because mine sounded just like his. I might try the Bartolini preamp because the stock one are nice but too "trebley."
Yeah this is a nice groove from Marcus. But none the less Marcus is the master of groove with no flashy mess. This is an awesome groove....I'm gonna try and learn it now, lol. Keep bringing us the goody-good Marcus!
Of all the bass performance vids I have seen of the 2010 NAMM show thus far, this is without a doubt the most tasteful. Marcus doing his thing, no more, no less.....but outstanding in every way! It's also great to see Marcus playing his 5 string model here.
aw-some bass player!!!

Marcus is amazing. Too bad these manufacturers use bad sounding videos from NAMM-way too much background noise and stuff.

Marcus is bad, so it is not an negative comment from me about him.
He slaps on the 4 and 5 strings the ultimate thumper.

i like the new color option. Lets be honost though, you could put a rogue bass in his hands and he could make it sound good.

Actually, even if the sound quality of the video isn't very good, I like the sound of the bass!
So crispy and punchy!.
If I close my eyes and listen....let me see.....is not victor, neither stanley, jaco, feraud, garrison, bootsy........it's only MARCUS to me!!

it's defenetely not the one with the Sadowsky's preamp, the Fender he owns and plays on

I hate the sound.I guess even marcus can't sound like Marcus on another bass.
SuperElectricbass 2 years ago 2
thats because his personal bass bass has a bartolini pre amp im pretty sure the signiture models do not
I have an ibanez sr665 i but a bart 4.6 preamp an and two bart humbuckers and i can almost immulate his tone perfect

It's his bass too and he sounds good...well it's 5 string bass it has a little bit different sound than the 4 string...pretty good playing :)

It does have the tone of 70s jazz. It has the 70s pickup spacing, mind you. Tried it couple weeks ago and it does have the tone.

I think this statement pretty much cancels the history of the greatest players of the electric bass.
