Because they feel that why should they worry about the future of their cars if they might not have a future because of their economic situation. so they basically are just trying with all their efforts to ride out the recession.

honda prius still ugly and waist of money ... been to the show, ugliest brand of the year award goes to Acura due to super ugly front (they used to be nice) and Toyota takes second place - exterior design looks cheep and cheesy

Lucky you... I couldn't go because I was busy at that time... Besides, I don't want to use my saved money to go there because I'm pretty sure that there are other more important stuff that money should be spent on... & by the way, I'm not from U.S.... I'm from the Middle East...

All said in fun mate. You should go one year, it is an eye opener. Detroit is destitute, the town is not in a good way. Unfortunately Detroit is past its use by date. They can try to keep it frozen if they like but it's already gone off. Large tracts of vacant land where homes have fallen down. You can buy a house in Detroit for $500 that needs some work. That doesn't happen in a boom town I tell ya.

Henry Ford Museum is good for a look too.

Yeah I'll try my best to go... The good news is that there is an auto show in Dubai next year ( Dubai is a city in United Arab Emirates which is a country in the Middle East) & hopefully I'll go to that one :-)...

Cool, Dubai is going ahead isn't it? Dubai is the opposite to Detroit. To picture Detroit look at Dubai then look at a rock, now imagine something as far the other side of the rock as Dubai is from the rock developement wise. That's Detroit. At least there will be a tourist resort when the oil runs out. I'd love to get to Dubai but I doubt I'd get the deal i got to go to Detroit. Check out the new Prius, very nice, and the other manufacturers are still trying to match the old Prius!

I didn't even bother stopping by Honda or Toyota. I was most impressed by Volvo, Ford, Lincoln, Audi, and some Mercs (Stirling Moss SLR, AMG SL65). Overall, it was a lot less crowded than in past years (at least it was on Monday).
